Break-in and assault at Flinders Park
Chief Inspector Jerome Teakle of Western Adelaide Local Service Area speaks to the media about a home invasion and assault of an elderly couple at Flinders Park. Read more below:
An elderly couple has sustained serious injuries after they were assaulted during a targeted home invasion at Flinders Park overnight.
Just before midnight, two men wearing balaclavas and black clothing, forced entry into a Pine Avenue home via the rear door.
A 73-year-old woman from the home went to investigate the noise, but she was knocked down by one of the suspects. The fall fractured the woman's hip and injured her elbow.
Her husband, a 75-year-old man went to his wife's aid and grappled with one the suspects, but he was struck over the head with a wooden object, which caused a serious head injury.
The two offenders then targeted certain property inside the home, but the injured couple managed to activate an alarm and the suspects left empty handed.
Police patrols including a police dog patrol searched the area including door knocking homes, but the suspects weren't located.
The injured couple were taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, with the injured woman admitted with a fractured hip and arm. The injured man was treated for a cut which required stitches and bruising to the head and bruised arm.
Chief Inspector Jerome Teakle from Western Adelaide Police said, Police are appalled that an elderly couple were subject to such a cowardly targeted attack and urge anyone with information on the incident to please contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.

Jump First, Ask Later
Jump First, Ask Later embodies the spirit of Parkour.
This powerful work tells the collective stories of six young champions of Parkour – stories of first and second-generation Australians overcoming social isolation and stigma through movement.
It may be an adrenaline-pumping extreme sport, but at the heart of Parkour is a mindset of creativity. Scrambling, jumping and tumbling through the urban landscape; Parkour sets up a notion that the obstacles you encounter shouldn’t be avoided but rather deliberately engaged with in order to find your path ‘jump first, ask later’.
Responding to the environment through Parkour has changed a community and the young people in it. This show is real life for young people; it is their weekend, their backyard, their streets. To engage the disengaged, inspire the uninspired and give young people the opportunity to consider issues that belong to their world, this show is a must-see.
A Powerhouse Youth Theatre and Force Majeure production presented by Adelaide Festival Centre.
