Barisal: Durga Sagar and Lakutia Zaminder Bari
Located only 12 km off the Barisal city, Durga Sagar is the largest pond in the Southwestern region. Back in 1780, Raja Shib Narayan Rai dug this 46 acre massive pond as a mark of love for his wife Rani Durgaboti. Back at that time, people were facing drinking water crisis in that area. Rani Durgaboti had asked the king to find a solution and this pond was the solution.
Five km further from Durga Sagar is another heritage site that one should not miss: the Lakutia Zamindar Bari.
Located in the village Lakutia, this magnificent relic of a zamindar house was built by Rupchondro Ray in the early British regime. This building was modified and expanded by his grandson Rajchondro Ray.
The main part of this two storied building is still standing today. But as more than 300 years of decay has caught up with it, you could probably not enter this structure.

মজা নিতে ও মজা করতে মিস করি নাই। বিশেষ করে সন্ধ্যা নদীতে সন্ধ্যার সময় টা ছিল অস্বাধারণ অনন্দঘন। দূর্গা সাগর দীঘি তে দাপাদাপির অভিগ্যতাও বেশ মজার। ভাসমান পেয়ারা বাজার থেকে শুরু করে, শাতলায় লাল শাপলা দেখতে যাওয়া আর বায়তুল আমান জামে মসজিদ দেখতে যাওয়া, সবই ছিল দূর্ভাগ্যের কবলে।
কপাল যেন ঠিক সয়েই উঠতে পারচ্ছিল না এই আনন্দ। যাই হোক, ভিডিও টা পাব্লিস করব কি করব না করতে করতে প্রায় ৯ মাস পর পাব্লিশ করেই দিলাম

বড় ধরনের কোন দুর্যোগ ছাড়াই কেটে যাচ্ছে ঘূর্নিঝড় ‘ফনী’র প্রভাব। তবে গত শুক্রবার রাত থেকে সর্বোচ্চ ৭৬ কিলোমিটার বেগে বয়ে যাওয়া দমকা ও ঝড়ো হাওয়া এবং ভারী বৃস্টিতে বরিশাল জেলার ১০ উপজেলায় ৯ হাজার হেক্টর জমির ফসল বিনস্ট হয়েছে।
১ হাজার ঘরবাড়ি এবং বহু গালপালা উপড়ে পড়েছে। এছাড়া ৬৫ কিলোমিটার কাঁচা সড়ক এবং ২০ মিটার পরিমান বেরীবাঁধ ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়েছে বলে জানিয়েছেন জেলা প্রশাসক এসএম অজিয়র রহমান।
গতকাল শনিবার বেলা সাড়ে ১২টায় বরিশালের জেলা প্রশাসক কার্যালয়ের নিয়ন্ত্রন কক্ষে ঘুর্নিঝড় ফনির প্রভাবে ক্ষয়ক্ষতি সম্পর্কে অবহিতকরন সভায় এই তথ্য জানান জেলা প্রশাসক।
ক্ষতিগ্রস্থ মানুষকে সর্বাত্মক সহায়তা করতে প্রশাসন আন্তরিকতার সাথে কাজ করে যাচ্ছে বলে তিনি জানান।

Durga Sagar is the largest pond or dighi of southern Bangladesh, with an area of about 2,500 hectare. It is located at Madhabpasa village of Babuganj Upazila, about 11 km away from Barisal town. Locally it is known as Madhabpasha Dighi. Initially there were four brick built ghats each having 15 m width. Due to the lack of proper maintenance jungles gradually surrounded the dighi.
The pond Durga Shagor Dighi can also be written as Durgasagor Dighi. It is a massive pond that was dug during 1780 by Rani Durgaboti who was the mother of Raja Joynarayan. The initiative was taken to ease the water crisis of the local people. That time it had four ghat at the four sides of the Dighi. Later those got ruined and covered with jungle. This large water tank is named after that magnanimous Rani Durgaboti.
Later in 1975, the Dighi was restored and these days only two ghat available at the north and west side. Now a days, the area is totally bounded by the walls. It has a footpath around for the pedestrian. It requires to pay 10 Taka to enter inside the premise. You can have a swim at the massive pond if you have extra cloth with you. They have a facility for fishing on there. You just need to pay the amount to get the permission.

পাক্কা বিয়াল্লিশ বছর পর আমি স্মৃতির খোঁজে এলাম বরিশাল শহরে আর আমার স্ত্রী এলো তার পৈতৃক ভিটা দেখার জন্যে যা সে আজব্দি কখনোই দেখেনি, এমনকি বরিশালে সে কখনোই আসেনি। জন্মেছে বন্দর নগর চট্টগ্রামে আর বেড়ে উঠেছিলো সেই নগরে যেখানে সে তার বনি'কে পেয়েছিলো। আগামী পাঁচদিন আমরা দুজন বরিশালের নগর-বন্দর-গ্রাম চোষে বেড়াবার আশা রাখি, বাকিটা উপরওয়ালার ইচ্ছে। সকল কৃতজ্ঞতা থাকলো বন্ধুবর (BMP Police Comm), Mr. Ruhul Amin, এর প্রতি। তার উদারতা ও আতিথিয়তা স্মৃতি-হারানোব্দি মনে থাকবে।
তিনিটি কৈফিয়তঃ (আগে পড়ুন তারপর ভিডিওটি দেখুন প্লীজ), কারণ জনে জনে উত্তর দেয়ার সময় আমার নেই।

কৈফিয়তঃ (১) আমি প্রতি বছর কাজে বা অকাজে অন্তত দুবার বাংলাদেশে গিয়ে থাকলেও আমি দেশের অনেক কিছু থেকে অজানা। আমি ১৯৯১ সন থেকে বাংলাদেশের বাইরে। গত ২৫ বছরে বিশেষ কোনো বিষয় অথবা ঘটনা বা অঘটনা ছাড়া আমি বাংলাদেশের কোনো টেলিভিশন দেখিনি। বাংলাদেশী টিভি চ্যানেলগুলোতে নাটক, সিনেমা বা খেলার ধারাভাষ্য দেখাতো বহু দূরের কথা। সুতরাং বাংলাদেশের কোনো শরাফত বা কোন জাফর উল্লাহ আমি তাদের কাউকে চিনি না। কোনোদিন নামও শুনিনি। অথচ আমার অনেক তথাকথিত গুণগ্রাহীদের কাছ থেকে শুনতে হচ্ছে আমি নাকি কাউকে নকল করি। আবারো বলছি আমি 'বনি আমিন', আমি এককভাবে আমি নিজেকে নিজে অনুসরণ করি। কাউকে নকল বা অনুসরণ করি না, আমি কক্ষনো কোনো স্ক্রিপ্ট বা প্রস্তুতি নিয়ে কোনো ভিডিও করি না। আমি এই নিয়ে কাউকে আলাদাভাবে আর ব্যাখ্যা দেব না। বলুক যে যা যত মন্দ কথা। আমি জানি পরনিন্দা এবং ঈর্ষা আমাদের বাঙালির অস্থী মজ্জায় মিশে আছে।
কৈফিয়তঃ (২) কৈফিয়তঃ প্রিয় বন্ধুরা, আমার কথা বলার ধরণ ও উপস্থাপনার ঢঙ যদি কারো ব্যাক্তিগতভাবে ভালো না লাগে সে জন্যে আমি তাদের কাছে কড়জোরে ক্ষমা চাচ্ছি। কারণ আমার নিজস্ব স্বকীয়তা আমি বদল করতে পারবোনা এবং কক্ষনো করবো-না। আমার কথা বলায় এবং বাংলা উচ্চারণে অনেক ঘাপলা আছে আমি জানি, তা আর আমার পরিবর্তন হবে না। আমি - আমিই হয়ে থাকতে চাই সেজন্যেই উদ্দেশ্যমূলকভাবে আমি অতি দাপটের সাথে আমার প্রত্যেকটি ভিডিওতে একটি ছোট্ট ইংরেজি লাইন আমি উচ্চারণ করে থাকি, যা হলো THIS IS BONI AMIN, এটি আমার ব্র্যান্ড-বাক্য। আমি কারো নকল হতে চাইনা এবং কারো স্টাইল অনুকরণ করিনা। মনে রাখবেন আমি কখনো অগ্রিম প্রস্তুতি নিয়ে বা স্ক্রিপ্ট তৈরী করে আমার কোনো ভিডিওর ধারাবর্ণনা করি না। আমি জানি প্রস্তুতি বা স্ক্রিপ্ট তৈরী করে ভিডিও করলে হয়তোবা আমি উক্ত ভিডিওকে আরো বেশি আকর্ষণীয় বা নজরকাড়া করতে পারতাম। অন্যভাবে নেবেন না, তবুও বলতে হচ্ছে - আমি অতি ব্যাস্ত মানুষ এবং রুটি রুজির তাগীদে ভুবনজূড়ে আমাকে প্রায়ই চর্কির মত ভন ভন করে ঘুরতে হয়, ব্যাস্ত থাকতে হয়। ভিডিও ডকুমেন্টারি আমার শখ, এটা আমার পেশা বা আয়ের উৎস নয়। আমার ভিডিও এবং ধারাবর্ণনা আমি যা করি তা একদম তাৎক্ষণিক, একদম রেডিমেড। আমি কখনোই স্ক্রিপ্ট তৈরী করে ভিডিও করবোনা এবং করার সময়-ও পাবনা। তাই যে সকল দর্শক বা ব্যাক্তিরা আমার করা ভিডিও দেখে বিরক্ত বোধ করেন তারা অশ্লীল ও কটু মন্তব্য করার চেয়ে বরং দয়াকরে আমার চ্যানেল এড়িয়ে যাবেন। দুষ্ট গরুর চেয়ে আমার শূন্য গোয়াল অনেক ভালো। আমি অল্পসংখক গুণগ্রাহী ও বন্ধুতেই অনেক তুষ্ঠ। আমার বেশি বন্ধু দরকার নেই। ভালো না লাগলে, হাতে ধরি, পায়ে পড়ি, শুধু এড়িয়ে যাবেন। বাজে মন্তব্য অর্থাৎ আপনার বেড়ে ওঠা পরিবেশ এবং আপনার পারিবারিক প্রতিচ্ছবি এখানে দেখবেন না। ধন্যবাদ
কৈফিয়তঃ (৩) আমি ১৯৯৪ সনের জুলাই মাসের পর বাংলাদেশী নাগরিকত্ব অফিসিয়ালি পরিত্যাগ করি। কেন করেছি, সে উত্তর আমি কাউকে দেব না। যদিও বিষয়টি গর্বের নয়। (২) আমি দৈত্ব নাগরিক নয়, বাংলাদেশে জন্মসূত্রে আমার অস্ট্রেলিয়ান পাসপোর্টে একটি ভিসা লাগানো আছে, যা আমাকে এক দশক পর পর রিনিউ করতে হয়, অর্থাৎ বাংলাদেশে আমি ভিসা ছাড়া যেতে পারি না। (৩) আমি অস্ট্রেলিয়ার খাই, অস্ট্রেলিয়াতে নিরবিচ্ছিন্ন ভাবে থাকছি ২৭ বছর। আমার বাড়ী ঘর এখানে। আমার সন্তানদের সকলের জন্ম এখানে। বিদেশে কারো প্রশ্নের উত্তরে আমি কিভাবে এতো বড় মিথ্যা কথা বলবো যে আমি 'বাংলাদেশ থেকে' বা বাংলাদেশের প্রতিনিধিত্ব করি বা করবো? তবে কেউ যদি আমার অরিজিন বা আমার শেকড়ের কথা জিজ্ঞেস করে তখন আমি অবশ্যই গর্বিত কণ্ঠে বলি 'আমি বাংলাদেশী বংশোদ্ভূত', আমি এক্ষেত্রে ধর্ম বা সূরা কেরাতের অনুবাদ বয়ান করবো না, তবে মনে রাখবেন ইসলামে এবং স্বয়ং মোহাম্মদের (সঃ) নির্দেশ আছে যে 'তুমি যে দেশের খাবে, যে দেশ তোমার অন্ন দেয়, তার সাথে বেঈমানি করবে না। - আমিন। ** আবারো বলছি আমার এই কৈফিয়তগুলোর পর যে কেউ যা-ই লিখুন না কেনো, আমি কোনো কিচ্ছুই বলবোনা এবং আমার কাছ থেকে কেউ আর কোনো ব্যাখ্যা আশা করবেন না। আমি সত্যি অতি ব্যাস্ত মানুষ এবং এই ব্লগ চ্যাটিং এর একদম সময় নেই। ভালো থাকুন সব্বাই। ধন্যবাদ।

barisal travel | durga sagor | madhop pasha barisal | barisal dhaka to barisal,Durga Sagar is the largest pond or dighi of southern Bangladesh, with an area of about 2,500 hectare. It is located at Madhabpasa village of Babuganj Upazila, about 11 km away from Barisal town. Locally it is known as Madhabpasha Dighi. Initially there were four brick built ghats each having 15 m width. Due to the lack of proper maintenance jungles gradually surrounded the dighi.
However in 1975, government renovated it to some extent. There is a forested hill in the lake, which is like a small island. There are coconut trees around the dighi which together with the dighi are bounded by brick-walls. There are two gates each on the eastern and western sides of Durga Sagar. In the middle of the dighi, there is an island with bushes.
The pond Durga Shagor Dighi can also be written as Durgasagor Dighi. It is a massive pond that was dug during 1780 by Rani Durgaboti (রানী দুর্গাবতী) who was the mother of Raja Joynarayan (রাজা জয়নারায়ণ). The initiative was taken to ease the water crisis of the local people. That time it had four ghat at the four sides of the Dighi. Later those got ruined and covered with jungle. This large water tank is named after that magnanimous Rani Durgaboti (রানী দুর্গাবতী).
Later in 1975, the Dighi was restored and these days only two ghat available at the north and west side. Now a days, the area is totally bounded by the walls. It has a footpath around for the pedestrian. It requires to pay 10 Taka to enter inside the premise. You can have a swim at the massive pond if you have extra cloth with you. They have a facility for fishing on there. You just need to pay the amount to get the permission.
How to go
It is another famous place from Barisal that everyone knows. It will be better if you can take a battery driven auto rickshaw with you for round trip. You need to pay 130 Taka per hour. Also, you can take the local bus from the Nothullabad (নথুল্লাবাদ) bus stoppage to minimize the costing. It should take around 30 minutes to go there. GPS coordinate of the Durga Shagor Dighi is

Barisal (Bengali: বরিশাল Bariśāl; historically Bakla-Chandradwip; also Gird-e-Bandar) is a major city that lies on the bank of Kirtankhola river in south-central Bangladesh. It is the largest city and the administrative headquarter of both Barisal district and Barisal Division. It is one of the oldest municipalities and river ports of the country. Barisal municipality was established in the year 1876 during the British Raj and upgraded to City Corporation on 25 July 2002. [4] The city consists of 30 wards and 50 mahallas with a population of 328,278 according to the 2011 national census. The area of the city is 58 km².[5]
