Fishing in the Durham Region
This area has some of the best fishing around for a variety of different species. It truly is one of my favourite places to fish all year round, and I am lucky enough to have explored the fishing in the Durham Region since a very young age.
McGowan Falls - Durham Conservation Park - Grey County, Ontario
DescriptThanks for watching my video of McGowan Falls in Durham, Ontario. Taken April 4, 2015 most of the snow has melted and has produced this spring runoff. It's quite the hidden gem and worth a visit during different seasons of the year. I will try to capture more of the sights to see in the summer. Please provide a thumbs up.

Durham Forest Weekly Race Series - Race #7
It was bit of a wild one in the Durham Forest Weekly Race Series - Race #7. Two minutes in I picked up a stick in my back wheel spokes and had to stop. Then a couple of minutes later, I had a big crash going OTB, losing my GoPro helmet cam and picking up a few cuts! I'm okay except for the cuts.

Energy Management and Sustainable Building Technology - Durham College
With the cost of energy rapidly increasing there is a commitment to being part of the move to renewable energy sources. Some commercial buildings frequently use more energy in unoccupied times than occupied, a practice that can hardly be considered sustainable.
This program offers the opportunity to learn how to integrate a variety of technologies to quantify energy efficiency and conservation within commercial and institutional buildings through the application of energy management, business principles and clean energy technologies.
The Ontario Power Authority is projecting the creation of thousands of new jobs as part of the shift to green and renewable energy. This program will prepare you to meet this demand by teaching you the skills required to work in the fields of energy-use efficiency, energy sourcing and energy management within industrial, commercial and residential buildings.
Students will be trained at the college's state-of-the-art and energy efficient Skilled Trades Centre in energy management and building systems technology including strategies, practices and techniques for generating, managing, optimizing, capturing, storing and distributing renewable and clean energy technologies.
You will focus on:
- Understanding the basics of building science
- Utilizing instrumentation and other related technologies to monitor and control energy systems in commercial facilities
- Analyzing technical problems related to energy systems
- Making recommendations applying green technologies in order to repurpose buildings
- Linking sustainability to the benefits of the company and linking financial benefits to sustainability and green strategy
- Improving employee morale and health

Durham Forest Race Series Race #13
New single track! The volunteers at the DMBA have done a marvelous job on some new trails on Tower Hill! We rode them tonight in the race. The section starts just after we go by the finish line down the hill. Dusty and loamy but we did our best to pack it down. And Superfly reverse! My Gmetrix are back - Garmin has fixed the Virb editor enough that it is possible to get them in an overlay.

Ontario Maple Syrup
The maple syrup production process gets its start from one of nature’s true phenomena. In springtime, when the nights are still cold, water from the soil is absorbed into the maple tree. During the day, the warmer temperature creates pressure that pushes the water back down to the bottom of the tree, making it easy to collect the precious maple sap. The sap is gathered over 12 to 20 days, usually between early March and late April, according to the region.
How Maple Syrup is Made – Maple Tree Tapping
maple-tree-tappingHow many times you can tap a single tree is calculated based on the tree’s diameter, health and growth rate. Any maple tree measuring about 8 inches in diameter or more can be tapped. It is allowed to tap larger trees more than once (for every additional 20 cm) during maple harvest season, up to a maximum of three taps per tree and season. With these regulations, the tapping does not affect the growth of maple trees.
Producing Maple Syrup – Maple Syrup Evaporation
maple-syrup-evaporationAfter harvesting in the maple woods, the sap is transported to a sugar house where it boils down to become real maple syrup. During cooking, storage tank pipes feed sap to a long and narrow ridged pan called an evaporator. As it boils, water evaporates and becomes denser and sweeter. Sap boils until it reaches the density of maple syrup. About 40 liters (10.5 gallons) of sap boil down to one liter (about .25 gallons or one quart) of pure maple syrup. For other maple products – butter, taffy, or sugar – the sweet syrup is further boiled in the evaporator to the temperature necessary to produce the different types of maple products. After evaporation, the finished products get bottled or canned, and are shipped to their final destinations.
Bruce’s Mill Conservation Area (BMCA) is a conservation area located off Stouffville Road in the town of Whitchurch–Stouffville, Regional Municipality of York, Canada. The conservation area is about 108 hectares (267 acres) in size. BMCA is home to a diverse ecosystem, including 1.2 hectares of wetlands and 44 hectares of deciduous, coniferous and mixed forest. It is owned and managed by the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA).
BMCA was established in 1961, after 52.6 hectares of land were purchased by the then Metropolitan Toronto and Region Conservation Authority. At the time, several buildings and a road system existed on the land. Today, the only historic buildings that remain include the mill attendant’s house and the water-powered mill building.
