LOOK INSIDE: Union Hotel of Flemington
4-22-18 Update:
2-22-16 Update, proposed revitalization plans include eliminating this structure.
Made famous for housing and accommodating the media personnel from the Lindbergh- Hauptmann Trial of the Century, the hotel now sits uncoupled and closed to the public. This footage was acquired by myself with permission from it's interests in 2011. It reaches your eyes today because this is a call for help, the hotel embodies history, workmanship, and perhaps some spirits; qualities hard to come by in this fast changing era in which we live.
A look at the four buildings in Flemington, NJ at risk of demolition
My home town (Flemington, NJ) has been at the center of nasty squall. A rich developer named Jack Cust is meddling with the gears of the political system to remove or dramatically change four 18th century buildings. He wants to replace them with out of scale, modern rentals. It's a familiar story -- history vs. development -- but these are not your typical buildings. They date back to the civil war. The Union Hotel is where General Grant's soldiers gathered; and later served as the media hub for journalists like Walter Winchell during the '35 Charles Lindbergh baby kidnap-murder trial. I made this video to capture the buildings as they are today, because I fear that after 200 New Jersey summers, this may be their last.
