Nagasaki Dutch Slope - Orandazaka - 長崎オランダ坂 - Japan As It Truly Is
The Nagasaki Dutch Slope - after Japan finally opened its doors after 250 years of isolation, many Dutch merchants made their homes along this scenic hill. Walking up the slope don't be surprised if you get a few greetings from the young ladies coming out of Kwassui Woman's University which is next door. There is one old building with historical items you can visit for free at the top.

Nagasaki, Japan: The Former Trading Post of Dejima
Dejima was an artificial island constructed in the port of Nagasaki in 1636 to segregate Portuguese residents from the Japanese and control the spread of Christianity.
The Portuguese acted as liaison between Japan and China and their ships would return laden with silk while sugar was the main commodity imported by the Dutch later on. It is thought that this sugar is why Nagasaki's local cuisine became famous for its lavish use of sugar.
Dejima trading post has been recreated and is most interesting.

Dejima (出島) was a man-made island in the port of Nagasaki, constructed in 1636 to segregate Portuguese residents from the Japanese population and control their missionary activities.
A few years later, the Portuguese were expelled from Japan, and the Dutch Trading Station, formerly located in Hirado, was moved to Dejima. The Dutch were restricted to Dejima during Japan's two centuries of isolation as the only remaining Westerners allowed in the country.
