Besides its several temples, Dwarka is also famous for the Forts and Monuments in Dwarka. The splendid architectural designs of these structures is a real visual treat. A notable name in the register of Forts and Monuments in Dwarka is Lighthouse in Dwarka.
History of Lighthouse, Dwarka
A port was established in the early 19th century at Rupen creek. A flag mast was posted at the port to lift a lamp. This flag mast served the function of a lighthouse. In the year 1866, a square tower of stone, 18m in height, was built at the present site. An oil wick lamp was subsequently installed on the tower.
On 29th November 1877, the then Governor of Bombay Sir Richard Temple visited Dwarka by sea route. He came to the Dwarka Lighthouse and found the light to be grossly insufficient. As a result, a PV equipment with 4th order revolving optic, sourced from M/s. Chance Bros., England, substituted the wick lamp in the year of 1881. Minor modifications were also done to this Lighthouse in Dwarka in 1900.
In February 1927, LH specialist, D. Alen Stevenson, visited the Lighthouse in Dwarka and appreciated its maintenance. During 1960-62, a new square masonry Tower, 43m in height was erected and electrical equipments sourced from Birmingham's M/s. Stone Chance was installed over it. At that time, even a latest storm warning signal mast was installed at the station. Mr. Raj Bahadur, who was the Minister for Transport, Government of India at that time, inaugurated the new lighthouse on 15th July, 1962. An RCC Baffle wall was constructed for the installation of sound horns equipments and vibrators supplied by M/s BBT of Paris to work as fog signals. 15th April, 1964 was the date when it was commissioned. This fog signal service was stopped in 1988.
Lighthouse, Dwarka, Gujarat, India got a Racon of Marconi origin on 11th May 1978. The substitution of incandescent lamp by MH lamp as well as the direct drive by a stepper motor was done on 5th April 1996. Thus, Lighthouse in Dwarka boasts of a chequered history.

Lighthouse in Dwarka is quite popular as a tourist destination. It remains open to public between the period of 16:30 and 18:00 hours. This lighthouse presents an excellent panoramic sight of the setting sun which ushers the nightfall.

Dwarka (About this soundpronunciation (help·info)) is an ancient city and a municipality of Devbhoomi Dwarka district in the state of Gujarat in northwestern India. It is located on the western shore of the Okhamandal Peninsula on the right bank of the Gomti River. In 2011 it had a population of 38,873. Dwarka is one of the foremost Chardhams, four sacred Hindu pilgrimage sites, and is one of the Sapta Puri, the seven most ancient religious cities in the country. Dwarka is often identified with the Dwarka Kingdom, the ancient kingdom of Krishna, and is believed to have been the first capital of Gujarat.
Dwarka is believed to have been the first capital of Gujarat.[1] The city's name literally means the gateway to heaven in Sanskrit, as Dwar means gate and ka references Brahma.[2] Dwarka has also been referred to throughout its history as Mokshapuri, Dwarkamati, and Dwarkavati.[3] It is mentioned in the ancient prehistoric epic period of the Mahabharata.[2] According to legend, Krishna settled here after he defeated and killed his uncle Kansa at Mathura.[4] This mythological account of Krishna's migration to Dwarka from Mathura is closely associated with the culture of Gujarat.[5] Krishna is also said to have reclaimed 12 yojanas or 96 square kilometres (37 sq mi) of land from the sea to create Dwarka.[6]
It has been argued that Dwarka was established as the capital in Saurashtra by the Aryans during the Puranaic. The Yadavas, who had migrated from Mathura, established their kingdom here when the city was known as Kaushathali. It was during this period that the city underwent rebuilding and was named Dwarka.[7] A friendly population of natives also prompted Krishna to settle at Dwarka when he decided, after fighting Jarasandha, the king of Magadh, to retreat from Mathura. The kingdom, also known as the Yaduvanshi empire, was established by Uugrasena, father of Kansa the then ruler and later Krishna flourished and extended its domain.[8] It is said that Krishna conducted the administration of his kingdom from Dwarka while residing with his family in Bet Dwarka.[9]. The city's Dwarkadhish Temple dedicated to Krishna was originally built around 2,500 years ago, but was destroyed by Mahmud Begada rulers and subsequently rebuilt in the 16th century. The temple is also the location of Dwaraka maţha, also called Sharada Matha/Peeth and western peeth,[10][note 1] one of the four peeths (Sanskrit: religious center) established by Adi Shankaracharya. As an important pilgrimage centre for Hindus, Dwarka has several notable temples, including Rukmini Devi Temple, Gomti Ghat, and Bet Dwarka. There is also a lighthouse at the land end point of Dwarka.
Archaeology
Archaeological investigations at Dwarka, both on shore and offshore in the Arabian Sea, have been performed by the Archaeological Survey of India. The first investigations carried out on land in 1963 revealed many artefacts.[11] Excavations done at two sites on the seaward side of Dwarka brought to light submerged settlements, a large stone-built jetty, and triangular stone anchors with three holes. The settlements are in the form of exterior and interior walls, and fort bastions. From the typological classification of the anchors it is inferred that Dwarka had flourished as a port during the period of the Middle kingdoms of India.[6] Coastal erosion was probably the cause of the destruction of what was an ancient port.[12]
Dwarka is mentioned in the copper inscription dated 574 AD of Simhaditya, the Maitraka dynasty minister of Vallabhi. He was the son of Varahdas, the king of Dwarka. The nearby Bet Dwarka island is a religious pilgrimage site and an important archaeological site of the Late Harappan period, with one thermoluminescence date of 1570 BC

In 200 AD, King Vasudev II of Dwarka was defeated by Mahakshatriya Rudradama.

This holy temple has found its mention in Shiv Puran and is one of the most significant Jyotirlinga of Shiva.Nageshwar Temple or Nagnath Temple is located on the route between Gomati Dwarka and the Bait Dwarka Island on the coast of Saurashtra in Gujarat. It is around 17km from Dwarka.Nageshwar Jyotirlinga is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas.

i- Gomti Ghat- Just beside Lord Dwarkadhish Temple Holy River Gomti (descended Ganges) flows to its end in Arabian Sea. This is right behind the main Dwarkadeesh temple.Gomati Ghat is an important haunt for all devout pilgrims. It is also referred to as Gomati Sangam Ghat as the river flows past the Gomati Ghat and soon afterwards meets the Arabian Sea.On the banks of river Gomti, there is a Shiva temple, as well as smaller shrines of Lord Rama, Lord Krishna and Krishna's friend Sudama around the ghat.
ii-- Along the Arabian Sea coast, Dwarka Beach is a good place to relax in the evenings. Popular among both the locals and tourists, Dwarka Beach is located quite close to the main temples in town. beach activities in Dwarka like swimming, shell collecting, sunbathing etc.
4--Sudama Setu
Sudama Setu is a pedestrian suspension bridge in Dwarka, Gujarat, India. It is named for Sudama, a childhood friend of Krishna. Sudama Setu Bridge is a stunning suspension bridge built for pedestrians to cross River Gomti. The construction work on the 166-metre long 'Sudama Setu'.
5-- Lighthouse
Lighthouse in Dwarka is one of the most attractions of the city. It has a wonderful lighthouse.It is open for public around 4pm to 6pm.You can see sunset from lighthouse which look cool.
