Los Sueños Resort and Marina, located at Playa Herradura on Costa Rica’s Central Pacific Coast, held the first leg of its sixth annual Los Sueños Signature Triple Crown billfish series, presented by Chantilly Air, January 16-19, 2019. A total of 44 of the world’s most competitive billfishing teams comprised of 210 individual anglers challenged each other over three days of fishing, releasing a total of 648 billfish, including 582 sails and 66 marlin, for a per boat average of 15 billfish releases.

For the second year in a row, the first leg of the Los Sueños Triple Crown is all about the marlin.
A total of 48 of the world’s most competitive billfishing teams comprised of 231 individual anglers challenged each other over three days of fishing, releasing a total of 571 billfish, including 434 sails and 137 marlin. Nearly one out of every three fish released was a marlin.

2019 Los Sueños Signature Triple Crown • LEG TWO

Los Sueños Resort and Marina, located at Playa Herradura on Costa Rica’s Central Pacific Coast, held the second leg of its sixth annual Los Sueños Signature Triple Crown billfish series, presented by Chantilly Air, February 27 – March 2, 2019. A total of 45 of the world’s most competitive billfishing teams comprised of 214 individual anglers challenged each other over three days of fishing. The Los Sueños Triple Crown Series is a catch and release tournament which awards 100 points per sailfish and 500 point per marlin release.

Fishing is always amazing at Los Sueños, but it was exceptionally good during this second leg of the three part tournament series. During Leg 1 in January, the 44 participating teams released 648 billfish over three days, or 15 fish per boat. This time around, with 45 boats competing, this number was passed by 3:15 pm on Day 1! It was sailfish bite all the way, with a total of 2,063 billfish released, translating to an average of 46 fish per boat.

Fishing out of Los Sueno resort in Costa Rica in November 2019 on the Epic' with Capt. Michael Alligood. We catch lots of yellowfin tuna, grouper, snapper, mahi mahi, and amberjack, all caught using live bait. Superb fishing with Costa Rica's best captain out of a first class marina. We also get our rental car stuck in a ditch with a flat tire along the way. Those events are just part of the memorable journey.

2019 Los Sueños Signature Triple Crown • LEG THREE

Los Sueños Resort and Marina, located at Playa Herradura on Costa Rica’s Central Pacific Coast, held the third and final leg of its sixth annual Los Sueños Signature Triple Crown billfish series, presented by Chantilly Air, March 27-30, 2019. Forty seven of the best and most competitive teams came together to release a total of 1,234 billfish over three days.

Going in to this event, the reports were that fishing was slow with 3-6 fish a day being average. We were pleased to see the teams find the fish when the radio went off with an early bite on Day 1 and ended with a nail-bite inducing finish on Day 3. With 100 points awarded for each sailfish release and 500 points for each marlin release, marlin always end up making a difference for the podium finishers. After all the scorecards were reviewed, a three-leg Triple Crown total of 3,945 billfish were released (3,820 sails and 125 marlin) – or 444,500 points achieved by the 51 teams that participated this year, 38 of which were registered in all three events.

Los Suenos Fishing Costa Rica | Jaco Fishing Charters

One of the best marinas in Central America Los Suenos fishing charters are abundant, with a plethora of choices ranging from smaller boats to 20 feet. All the way up to custom luxury yachts to 40 feet or more.

The size of your Los Suenos fishing charter will determine what hot spots you can reach. In general, Los Suenos fishing tanks travel 15 to 40 miles offshore to target the Sailfish, Marlin (blue, black and striped), Mahi-Mahi, Yellowfin, Dorado, and Wahoo trophies.

Choose the right charter of Los Suenos

Sportfishing experts often have some knowledge of rental boats if you are new to sport fishing in Costa Rica by selecting a good charter and crew is essential to have a good day of deep sea fishing.

Many larger charters can take up to 14 people. Larger fishing charters have bunk beds, air conditioning, open fly bridge as well as electronic gadgets to locate and find fish.

Fishing charters that are in the mid-sized range, up to 6 people are usually equipped with carabiners and various stems, baits, switch stations, bathroom, air conditioning and all the electronics needed to put you on the fish.

Small fishing charters, up to 5 people eat and usually have shade coverage, enough peak, GPS navigator, probes, bait fish and of course stabilizers. Although less comfortable these smaller fishing charters come with enough tack to get the job done and an economical price.
