E-Skating China's Grand Canyon, The Amazing Pingshanhu
After visiting Zhangye's Wetland Park (previous episode), we took a hired car to Pingshan Lake, or Pingshanhu (平山湖), also known as China's Grand Canyon. It was a bit far from town. From Pingshanhu's entrance, we had to take a 17 km shuttle ride to go into the scenic area. To conserve battery power on our Backfire Ranger X1 electric skateboards, we took the shuttle in and skated out. We got out right before dark.

Wuhan is not quarantined
Since December, health authorities in China have been grappling with an outbreak of viral pneumonia that has sickened hundreds of people and killed 17.
The disease is thought to be caused by a previously unknown type of coronavirus that may have first spread to humans from animals at a now-shuttered seafood market in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, where most of the cases have been diagnosed. Further cases have been confirmed in Thailand, Japan, South Korea and the U.S. while suspected cases have also occurred in a number of other countries and territories.
Coronaviruses are a family of viruses that can cause a variety of ailments, among them the deadly severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS). Most known coronaviruses cause relatively mild cold-like symptoms, but their ability to jump between humans and animals makes them hard to contain. Chinese health officials have confirmed that the new virus can spread between people, but do not believe it to be as serious as SARS or MERS.
Caixin Global will continue covering this story as it develops. Please check back regularly for updates.

• Several Chinese cities said major New Year celebration events will be canceled to prevent mass gatherings and reduce the risk of virus contagion. Beijing’s cultural and tourism authority said several signature temple fairs — traditional Lunar New Year gatherings — will be canceled. Large cultural and entertainment venues including the Palace Museum will be closed during the holiday. People who bought tickets in advance will receive refunds.
Similar cancellations were announced in cities including Hangzhou in Zhejiang province, Hohhot in Inner Mongolia and Wuhan, the center of the outbreak.
The Shanghai Disney Resort said it will allow guests to reschedule or receive refunds for entry tickets as well as hotel bookings. Guests can choose to change their bookings to any other day within the next six months or get their money back, the theme park said Thursday. Luxury hotel chain InterContinental Hotels Group Plc said guests can change or cancel reservations across the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.
• Airlines are canceling outbound flights from Wuhan as the city was placed under quarantine Thursday morning. Air China canceled 28 flights from Wuhan; China Eastern, 78 flights; and China Southern, 108. Shenzhen Airlines said all trips linking with the city between Jan. 24 and Feb. 10 will be canceled, and Cathay Dragon suspended all Wuhan flights until Feb. 29. Passengers will receive refunds for the cancellations.
• The Ministry of Transport ordered all commercial vehicles and vessels to stop entering Wuhan. Transportation via Wuhan should adjust routes to stay away from the city, and those already en route to Wuhan should immediately return, according to the ministry.
• As of Thursday night, a total of seven cities in Hubei have imposed transport bans, including Wuhan, Ezhou, Huanggang, Xiantao, Zhijiang, Chibi and Qianjiang.
Anhui
Anhui is a province of the People's Republic of China, and is part of the East China region. Located across the basins of the Yangtze River and the Huai River, it borders Jiangsu to the east, Zhejiang to the southeast, Jiangxi to the south, Hubei to the southwest, Henan to the northwest, and Shandong for a tiny section in the north. The provincial capital is Hefei.
The name Anhui derives from the names of two cities in southern Anhui, Anqing and Huizhou. The abbreviation for Anhui is 皖, because there were historically a State of Wan, a Mount Wan, and a Wan river in the province.

■ VIETNAM, SAIGON: I'd bought nearly everything I needed in this market apart from one thing. A new pair of shoes. Not that I needed a pair but I was curious to see how much a fake pair of Adidas shoes cost i Vietnam plus it was rather fun to bargain with the funny sales women. So I decided to go on one last market hunt just for fun. So how much does a fake pair of Adidas shoes cost in Vietnam? What are the cheapest shoes? And what is the price for Converse shoes?

SUMMARY
=======
Chongqing (, also US: , Chinese: [ʈʂʰʊ̌ŋ.tɕʰîŋ] (listen)), alternately romanized as Chungking, is a major city in southwest China. Administratively, it is one of China's four municipalities under the direct administration of central government (the other three are Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin), and the only such municipality in China located far away from the coast.Chongqing was a municipality during the Republic of China (ROC) administration, serving as its wartime capital during the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–1945); during this period, Chongqing was listed as one of the world's four anti-fascist command centers, along with Washington, D.C., London and Moscow. The current municipality was recreated on 14 March 1997 to help develop the central and western parts of China. The Chongqing administrative municipality has a population of over 30 million, spread over an area the size of Austria. The city of Chongqing made of 9 urban districts has a much smaller population of 18,384,100 as of 2016 estimation. According to the 2010 census, Chongqing is the most populous Chinese municipality, and also the largest direct-controlled municipality in China, containing 26 districts, eight counties, and four autonomous counties.
The official abbreviation of the city, Yu (渝), was approved by the State Council on 18 April 1997. This abbreviation is derived from the old name of a part of the Jialing River that runs through Chongqing and feeds into the Yangtze River.
Chongqing has a significant history and culture. Being one of China's National Central Cities, it serves as the economic centre of the upstream Yangtze basin. It is a major manufacturing centre and transportation hub; a July 2012 report by the Economist Intelligence Unit described it as one of China's 13 emerging megalopolises.

SUMMARY
=======
Chan (simplified Chinese: 禅; traditional Chinese: 禪; pinyin: Chán; abbr. of Chinese: 禪那; pinyin: chánnà), from Sanskrit dhyāna (meaning meditation or meditative state), is a Chinese school of Mahāyāna Buddhism. It developed in China from the 6th century CE onwards, becoming dominant during the Tang and Song dynasties. After the Yuan, Chan more or less fused with Pure Land Buddhism.
Chan spread south to Vietnam as Thiền and north to Korea as Seon, and, in the 13th century, east to Japan as Zen.
