Kayaking in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia
At the northern end of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia sits the town of Dingwall. Nothing really to recommend it as a town except for the beautiful surrounding scenery. And there is absolutely no better way to experience that than getting up close and personal, out on the water.
We did the half-day kayaking trip, spending about three hours out on the water, both in a sheltered bay and out in the open sea (technically the Northumberland Sraits, I believe). It was AWESOME.
And if you watch the vertigo-inducing video you'll see just how beautiful it was, including random appearances from a couple other guys on our tour.

EYKING QUESTIONS MINISTER RAITT OVER FATE OF RAIL LINE Sept. 22nd 2014
(Ottawa, ON) Member of Parliament for Sydney Victoria Mark Eyking questioned Transport Minister Lisa Raitt on the fate of the rail line.
“Mr. Speaker, this past weekend I attended a rally in support of the Cape Breton rail line. The rally demonstrated the importance of keeping our rail open. Many companies with over 500 employees, generating millions into our economy depend on it and it is essential for future development of Sydney harbor. Mr. Speaker the Minister of Transport has stated in this house that her government will assist in keeping the rail open. Next month the company who currently operates the rail will give notice that it will cease operations.
Time is running out. Where is this government’s promised help?”
After Question Period M.P. Eyking said “The Minister’s answer is unacceptable. In the Spring she said the federal government would do what it can to keep the rail line open. Now today we hear the minister state that the federal government is not going to be involved in keeping the rail open. We see this government helping other short rail lines remain open in other parts of Canada, we should be seeing the same here.”
