SHROPSHIRE HILLS The View From Earl's Hill, Pontesbury
Whilst only reaching 320m (1050ft) above sea level Earl' Hill and the adjoining Pontesford Hill stand out in the landscape, particularly from the north and west as they herald The Shropshire Hills
Most usually ramblers will start the walk from Pontesford, where there is ample free parking to be found
From the car park there are a couple of routes to the top. Probably the most oft-used one is the more direct route. This is steep though, and will for most everyone necessitate a few stops to catch your breath. I would advise skirting around the north-westerly side for 1/4 mile or so before heading upwards in an easterly direction (it's easily picked out in a clearing from the woods). I believe this is called the bulldozer route locally - it certainly offers better views as you ascend
Earl's Hill (in common with most of Shropshire's other high hills proved attractive to Iron Age settlers who built a well-defended hill fort at the summit of Earl's Hill in around 600BC. There's another on the lower slopes on Pontesford Hill. In the 1960s these hills became Shropshire Wildlife Trust's first nature reserve
Popularised by the Shropshire writer Mary Webb, the twin hills are at the centre of the legend of the golden arrow Spposedly, back in the 7th Century when this was a highly disputed area, the kings of Mercia and Wessex did battle here. Carelessly, one of them had a golden arrow that he left lying around somewhere and lost. Since then, just about everyone else has been looking for it
Wiki = 'Earls Hill is the site of an Iron Age hillfort built around 600 B.C. and making it a Scheduled Ancient Monument and also designated an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) for its wildlife value. It was Shropshire Wildlife Trust's first nature reserve in 1964
Earls Hill is Pre-Cambrian in origin, being formed approximately 650 million years ago as a result of volcanic activity along the Pontesford-Linley fault'

Walks in England: Climbing Earl's Hill in Shropshire
The twin summits of Earl's Hill and Pontesford Hill rise out of the plains to the south-west of Shrewsbury and herald the beginning of the Shropshire hills. In the 1960s these hills became Shropshire Wildlife Trust's first nature reserve.

Earl's Hill - Shropshire Hill Walks 76/127 Highest Shropshire Hills AONB
A popular hill, with a deceptively steep wooded end, and an equally steep grassy end. There are cliffs frequented by climbers on one side, and a woodland walk on the other. Two hills, 3 potential names, so much to offer... what are you waiting for?
Roundhouse Pontesford Hill Plan
Traditional roundhouses engage people with their environment. Made from locally sourced materials, they have little long term impact. Structures like this would have been used on the Lower Camp on Pontesford Hill and at the top of Earl's Hill. A roundhouse is a wonderful place for people to meet - often with birds flying in and out.

Boy, 19 months, dies 'after being run over by his father'
Anineteen-month-old boy has been killed after reportedly being run over by his own father in a tragic accident outside the family's fish and chip shop. The toddler was declared dead after being hit outside the Friends Fish and Chip Shop in Minsterley, Shropshire, just after 11am on Thursday. An ambulance, three paramedic officers and an air ambulance rushed to the scene after members of the public desperately attempted to perform CPR.But the boy, who has not been named, was in cardiac arrest and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.Local residents have since spoke of their devastation and claimed the child was killed after accidentally being run over by his own father.West Mercia Police are appealing for witnesses and have not yet confirmed the circumstances surrounding the collision.A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service added: 'When crews arrived they found a boy in cardiac arrest being given CPR by members of the public following a collision with a car.'Ambulance staff quickly took over resuscitation efforts on scene and continued advanced life support as a team.'Tragically, nothing could be done to save the boy and he was confirmed dead at scene.' Family friend Maria Downes said she was driving along the road and witnessed the aftermath of the tragedy. She added: 'I was a couple of seconds behind the accident, I didn't see it actually happen, but of course I know now what happened.'I was two cars behind and saw the aftermath of it, a lot of people rushed over to try and help. It's incredibly upsetting and tragic.'It was not a hit and run.It wasn't a driver speeding. It's much more tragic than what's been originally said.'I can't say anything about it, but for those reasons it's more devastating than people think.' Ms Downes earlier wrote on Facebook: 'So absolutely devastating to be in Minsterley today, thinking of the family of that beautiful boy.'I was only with him a few days ago, I don't think I will ever be able to go to Minsterley again with what's stuck in my head.'I have to say this though, the whole village came together today (Thursday) bless you all for staying strong, acting fast and just being there to lend a hand if it was needed.'I am so devastated for them all and to all the police, fire service, air ambulance, paramedics, you deserve a big hug.' 'He (the boy) was by the chippy where his dad owned.' Kelly Murphy put on social media: 'I've just been told his own dad ran him over!' Maria Downes added: 'I think the family have paid the ultimate price really and that will be forever haunting those involves, it's not about blame now, it's a bout a young child's death and a broken family x' Karen Powell said: 'So sad about the little boy In Minsterley thoughts are with his family.'RIP little man xxxx makes you realise don't take things for granted xx' Francesca Bromley put: 'Puts it into perspective to cherish your children.'Two-year-old boy got ran over and died at scene in Minsterley today (Thursday).'So so sad before x

Hug the Hill Fort Oswestry
Oswestry Hillfort is one of the greatest archaeological monuments of the nation. English Heritage
Thank you for supporting this campaign. It is very simple. Shropshire Council need to plan for housing needs till 2026. Because the land alongside the hillfort has been offered for development, it has become an easy candidate for inclusion in the allocation of sites known as SAMDev. Our view is that the national significance of Old Oswestry Hillfort, the importance of its setting and it's potential as a tourism and educational asset for the town precludes the easy win of opening the door to a modern housing development alongside.

Shawn & Geena Walks Clee Hill, Shropshire 18th January 2014
Geena & I attempt to reach the peak of Clee Hill in sleet, rain, as well as high fog and rain. Apologies for the sound, the wind comes in and out. The first part of the video is audible, whereas the second part is less so. }
For those wondering whether to go, it's definitely worth going. If you do decide to go plan first before going, unlike us who decided to walk around it before going up it. lol.
