12 Breathtaking Photos of Datong Great Wall, Shanxi
Datong is located in a basin at an elevation of 1,040 metres (3,410 ft) and borders Inner Mongolia to the north and west and Hebei to the east. Datong has been the dividing line of farming civilization in the south and nomadic people in the north since ancient times.
The strategic important location made Datong one of the most important towns in the border area of the ancient China (until Inner Mongolia became part of China later). The Great Wall of Datong (section of the whole Great Wall) has a long history.
There are ruins of the Great Wall confirmed to be built in various periods and dynasties, such as the Warring States Period (475–221 BC) , Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC), Han Dynasty (206 BC-220), Ming Dynasty (1368–1644) and Qing Dynasty (1644-1912).
According to the Great Wall Survey released in 2009, there is a total of 343.149 kilometers of ancient great wall built in the Ming Dynasty within the Datong City.
The ancient Datong Great Wall was re-built and reinforced several times in history. In 2008, a section of the ancient Great Wall was renovated (as these photos are showing).
Since the early 1980s, the Chinese government has allocated special funds to restore this national monument to its magnificance in some parts, such as the sections at Badaling, Mutianyu, and other sites.
Even today, people are still amazed by the ancient Chinese’s persistence in constructing large scale projects and determination of protecting their country from wars and instabilities.

Taipei announces new details relating to government-led urban renewal plan
Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je has made public housing and urban renewal focal points of his new administration. Today he announced new details relating to 22 government-run urban renewal projects, including the rebuilding of Datong’s Lanzhou and Wanhua’s Nanjichang resettled tenement communities. Interim housing built as part of the plan will later be converted into rental public housing. The Datong District resettled tenement community at Lanzhou is filled with narrow, old homes. Life can be difficult here. Mayor Ko Wen-je hopes to improve the community through a government-led urban renewal project.Lanzhou Urban Renewal ResidentIt’s great. The worst place in Taipei is Datong District. It’s the city’s oldest community. Our only hope is government-led urban renewal. There is no chance of urban renewal if we residents are left to negotiate with developers.The city’s plan is to complete rezoning then build interim housing units. After residents move into the interim housing, refurbishment can begin. Once residents return to their rebuilt homes, the interim housing will be converted to public housing.Charles LinTaipei Deputy MayorWhen these residents leave (the interim housing), tens of thousands of public housing units for youths will be opened. This won’t be typical public housing that is built then sold. We will continue to manage it.The city will build interim housing in 10 districts, including near Yuanshan Station on the former site of Minglun Elementary School. Some nearby residents oppose the plan out of a fear these new homes will drag down the value of their property.

Epic Ride ????️ Pingyao City, China
We take an exciting ride into the center of the ancient walled city of Pingyao, China.
Pingyao dates back 2,700 years, and is one of the best preserved ancient cities in the known world. During the Qing Dynasty this city was a financial center of China. It is still inhabited by 50,000 residents and is renowned for its well-preserved ancient city wall, and was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.
Pingyao still retains its city layout from the Ming and Qing dynasties, conforming to a typical Ba gua pattern. More than 300 sites in or near the city have ancient ruins. Preserved Ming- and Qing-style residences number close to 4,000. The streets and storefronts still largely retain their historical appearance.
The city walls of Pingyao were constructed in the 3rd year of the Hongwu Emperor (1370). The walls have six barbican gates. The north and south sides have one gate each. The east and west sides have two gates each.
This pattern is similar to that of a turtle (the head, tail and four legs), earning Pingyao the moniker Turtle City. The walls measure about 12 metres high, with a perimeter of 6,000 metres. A 4-metre wide, 4-metre deep moat can be found just outside the walls. Aside from the four structured towers at the four corners, there are also 72 watchtowers and more than 3,000 battlements.

22nd Nov 2017 Yungang Grottoes
Yungang Grottoes, one of the three major cave clusters in China, punctuate the north cliff of Wuzhou Mountain, Datong. The area was excavated along the mountain, extending 1 km (0.62 miles) from east to west, revealing 53 caves and over 51,000 stone statues.The grottoes are divided into east, middle, and west parts. Pagodas dominate the eastern parts; west caves are small and mid-sized with niches. Caves in the middle are made up of front and back chambers with Buddha statues in the center. Embossing covers walls and ceilings.Started in 450, the grottoes is a relic of the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534). Absorbing Indian Gandhara Buddhist art, the sculptures here developed traditional Chinese art melded with social features of the time.During the reign of Emperor Xiao Wen a monk named Tanyao took charge of the construction of Yungang Grottoes. The largest cave is No.6, which is 20 meters (65.6 foot) high, standing a 15-meter (49.2-foot)-high pagoda-like column decorated with Buddha statues and designs. On the four sides of the tower pillar, and on the east, south and west walls of the cave, 33 embossed panels depict the story of Saykamuni.
We were so fortunate to have 5 Vietnamese girls in our team in Shanxi tour program. They became our sisters and we all took care each other with great harmony and had lots of fun under the guardianship of Yang Zong La.

Hong Kong International Airport (IATA: HKG, ICAO: VHHH) is the main airport in Hong Kong. It is located on the island of Chek Lap Kok, which largely comprises land reclaimed for the construction of the airport itself. The airport is also colloquially known as Chek Lap Kok Airport (赤鱲角機場), to distinguish it from its predecessor, the closed Kai Tak Airport.
The airport has been in commercial operation since 1998, replacing the Kai Tak Airport. It is an important regional trans-shipment centre, passenger hub and gateway for destinations in Mainland China (with 45 destinations) and the rest of Asia. The airport is the world's busiest cargo gateway and one of the world's busiest passenger airports.[3] It is also home to one of the world's largest passenger terminal buildings (the largest when opened in 1998).
The airport is operated by the Airport Authority Hong Kong 24 hours a day and is the primary hub for Cathay Pacific (the flag carrier of Hong Kong), Dragonair, Hong Kong Airlines, Hong Kong Express Airways and Air Hong Kong (cargo carrier). The airport is one of the hubs of Oneworld alliance, and it is also one of the Asia-Pacific cargo hubs for UPS Airlines.[1] It is a focus city for many airlines, including China Airlines and China Eastern Airlines. Singapore Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines and Air India utilize Hong Kong as a stopover point for their flights.

SUMMARY
=======
Taipei (; Hokkien POJ: Tâi-pak), officially known as Taipei City, is the capital and a special municipality of the Republic of China. Sitting at the northern tip of the island, Taipei City is an enclave of the municipality of New Taipei City that sits about 25 km (16 mi) southwest of the northern port city Keelung. Most of the city is located in the Taipei Basin, an ancient lakebed. The basin is bounded by the relatively narrow valleys of the Keelung and Xindian rivers, which join to form the Tamsui River along the city's western border.The city proper is home to an estimated population of 2,704,810 (2015), forming the core part of the Taipei–Keelung metropolitan area, which includes the nearby cities of New Taipei and Keelung with a population of 7,047,559, the 40th most-populous urban area in the world—roughly one-third of Taiwanese citizens live in the metro district. The name Taipei can refer either to the whole metropolitan area or the city proper.
Taipei is the political, economic, educational, and cultural center of the Republic of China and one of the major hubs in East Asia. Considered to be a global city and rated as an Alpha City by GaWC, Taipei is part of a major high-tech industrial area. Railways, high-speed rail, highways, airports, and bus lines connect Taipei with all parts of the island. The city is served by two airports – Taipei Songshan and Taiwan Taoyuan. Taipei is home to various world-famous architectural or cultural landmarks, which include Taipei 101, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Dalongdong Baoan Temple, Hsing Tian Kong, Lungshan Temple of Manka, National Palace Museum, Presidential Office Building, Taipei Guest House, Ximending, and several night markets dispersed throughout the city. Natural features such as Maokong, Yangmingshan, and hot springs are also well known to international visitors.
In English-language news reports the name Taipei often serves as a synecdoche referring to Taiwan's national government. Due to the ambiguous political status of Taiwan internationally, the term Chinese Taipei is also sometimes pressed into service as a synonym for the entire country, as when Taiwan's government representatives participate in international organizations or Taiwan's athletes participate in international sporting events.

SUMMARY
=======
Taipei (; Hokkien POJ: Tâi-pak), officially known as Taipei City, is the capital and a special municipality of Taiwan (officially the Republic of China, ROC).
Taipei is the political, economic, educational, and cultural center of Taiwan and one of the major hubs in East Asia.
