The East Kent Railway
A there and back trip on the two mile East Kent Railway between Shepherdswell and Eythorne stations on board restored 4COR Unit 3142 hauled by 08 8676. Even with this sunny weather, I managed to choose a day that was overcast throughout.
Once serving Tilmanstone Colliery and beyond, it closed to traffic in 1986. Now run as a heritage line using diesel traction along with preserved electric stock. Well worth a visit. Check out their website.
CAB RIDE ON THE EAST KENT RAILWAY FROM SHEPHERDSWELL TO EYTHORNE: In Class 101 DMU 101682
In this film we take a cab ride on the East Kent Railway, once part of the Colonel Stephens empire, from Shepherdswell to Eythorne. Riding in Class 101 DMU 101682, our journey of almost 2 miles includes passing through the 477 yard long Golgotha Tunnel, before reaching Eythorne, in the heart of the former East Kent coalfield.
Steam Returns To East Kent Railway
My first video of 2019 and a visit to a line that would not usually be on my radar. The East Kent Railway in Shepherdswell is having a steam loco visit for the first time in 15 years. Visiting from the Mangapps Railway Museum Peckett 2087 now named Achilles performed brilliantly despite the damp foggy weather. Achilles is guest on the line for the season and will be running on selected Sundays and bank holidays and is well worth a visit with a nice 2 mile line and great gang of friendly staff on this former colonel Stephens line.

East Kent Railway (September 2019 Visit) - BLR Visits
On September 1st, 2019, we visited the absolutely amazing East Kent Railway, based down near Dover. A place we'd never even known existed until a friend mentioned it to us, we simply had to visit! And boy were we glad that we did. Big trains, little trains and model trains - what more could you ask for! We ever got a cab ride in the big diesel. What a treat! We hope you enjoy this video as much as we enjoyed our day.

The kent and East Sussex Railway forgotten Stations , bridges and Tunnels RVR KESR
The line from Tenterden to Headcorn opened to traffic on 15 May 1905. A wind pump was provided just outside Headcorn Junction to supply water for the locomotives. In 1904, the Headcorn & Maidstone Junction Light Railway was authorised. This line would have run from Headcorn via Sutton Valence to Tovil, where running powers over part of the Medway Valley Line would have allowed access to Maidstone. Only the section from Tovil to Tovil Goods was ever built. The original junction at Headcorn was on the Ashford side of the station. Headcorn was remodelled by the Southern Railway in 1930 to provide two through roads and the junction was then moved to the Tonbridge side of the station.
On the outbreak of war in 1914, the K&ESR came under Government control, as did most railways at the time. It was released from Government control in 1921, and £1,487 in compensation was paid. The K&ESR was not included in the Grouping of the railways into the Big Four in 1923, and continued its independent existence.
Grouping and decline
By 1924, the section from Tenterden to Headcorn was operating at a loss. Correspondence with the Southern Railway in 1930 led to Sir Herbert Walker stating that there was no chance of the line making a profit, and that even if passenger services were withdrawn, it was doubtful whether the receipts from freight traffic would cover operating expenses. It should be noted that the Southern Railway were liable to make up any operating losses, as the successor to the South Eastern and Chatham Railway under the terms of the Act of Parliament for the construction of that section of line.[9]

RVR Rother Valley Railway Restoring the Missing link 2016 Rother Valley Railway KESR RVR TRC
The Rother Valley Railway (RVR) is a heritage railway project based at Robertsbridge in East Sussex, England. It takes its name from the original name for what later became the Kent and East Sussex Railway, running from Robertsbridge through to Headcorn in Kent, via Tenterden. The project is to replace the ‘missing link’ between Robertsbridge, a station on the Tonbridge to Hastings mainline, and Bodiam on the Kent and East Sussex Railway, a heritage railway which operates from Bodiam to Tenterden. A charity supported by a society of volunteers are attempting to re-establish the railway link. The RVR began by reinstating the first few hundred yards of line eastwards from Robertsbridge, and also a short stretch westwards from Bodiam. In 2010, the latter section was further extended to reach Junction Road. In summer 2011 work began at Robertsbridge to extend further eastwards to Northbridge Street, which entailed the rebuilding of five bridges. By June 2012, this further extension was also completed. In September 2013, a Gala weekend at Robertsbridge marked the progress to date and the start of the next phase - the re-instatement of the section between Northbridge Street and Junction Road, for which statutory permissions are being sought. While the RVR does not yet feature regular passenger trains, the base at Robertsbridge houses a small shop and visitor centre open to the public each Sunday, utilising a building formerly used as the London terminus of the Orient Express. There is also a small collection of historic railway vehicles in various stages of preservation.
