My Iceland #7: East Fjords
Part 7 of the My Iceland project.
A trip down the eastern flank of the island. A stop at the Lagarfljöt lake - the longest in the country - to visit the Skriðuklaustur estate and hike to Hengifoss, the third largest waterfall in the country. Then down past the fjords and the hamlet of Djúpivogur to the harbour town of Höfn.

Day1 in Reykjavik..... Moment b4 sunrise at Hallgrim Church in Reykjavik
Dec-02-2018 (Day 1 of 32)
After taking Flybus from Reykjavik Airport to 'BSI Terminal', I took a taxi to my first stop 'Hallgrim Church' because my Airbnb check-in time is 2pm. I arrived this spot like 10:30am after collecting lot of tour information in 'BSI Terminal'.
A beautiful cold day in Reykjavik.... that's why you can see such a clear sky

West Iceland & Snaefellsnes | Iceland: Road Trip Of A Lifetime | Shot On GoPro
In the first episode of Iceland: Road Trip Of A Lifetime, we are going to explore the West Iceland & Snaefellsnes peninsula. This region is very close to Reykjavik & it is possible to do day trips from the capital as well.
We are exploring the beautiful lighthouses of Akranes, amazing Hraunfossar, mystical Deildarthungver, Ytri Tunga, tip of Snaefellsnes - Arnarstapi & the most photographed mountain in Iceland - Kirkjufell. It took us 2 complete days to see these 6 amazing attractions.
Enjoy a slice of West Iceland & Snaefellsnes. #TuneInToWCN

In the first episode of Circling Iceland we head to our first waterfalls starting with the Hraunfossar followed by the Kirkjufellsfoss on the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. Said Peninsula is certainly a place you should mark on your map due to it’s impressive coast at Arnarstapi.
On our second day we drove all the way to the north where we based ourselves near Akureyri to explore the north of Iceland starting with a hike in the Asbyrgi canyon. In the upcoming episode I’ll show you all the sights in this area more in-depth.
Traveling Icelands Ring Road is the perfect way to get to know the country on and off the tourist paths. Therefore we took about 2 weeks to get to know Iceland properly by exploring waterfalls, canyons, hot springs, glacier caves, black beaches and of course the stunning coastlines all around the island finishing off in Reykjavik with the countries biggest music festival called „Iceland Airwaves“
We’ll show you which places to visit & our favorite things to do in Iceland in the upcoming videos and how to plan & organize your very own road trip in Iceland. Make sure to subscribe & activate notification to not miss any episode!

Greenland vs Iceland (Similar or Different?)

It's true: Greenland and Iceland should really switch names, because they are polar opposites!!!
Greenland is covered in ice and Iceland is covered in greenery. The people, culture, cuisine and lifestyle between the two places could not be any different -- pretty much everything is opposite except for the nature.
As I reminisce on this final day of our AMAZING Hurtigruten expedition, I want to take a moment to compare and contrast Greenland and Iceland. We spent the first week was in Greenland, and the past 3 days sailing the Western coast of Iceland to the towns of Stykkishólmur and now Reykjavík.
SPECIAL OFFER: Hurtigruten is offering you guys (and only you guys) a wonderful 25% OFF DISCOUNT if you want to visit Greenland in 2020 or 2021. Simply click on the below link, and do it soon cuz this offer ends in a week!

In the third episode of Circling Iceland we are heading south to the big glaciers - starting with the Jökulsarlon Glacier Lagoon and an ice cave tour with our friends from localguide, before hiking to another waterfall: the Svartifoss.
This time we use Vik as our base to explore the Southern Region of Iceland with it’s hot springs at Seljavallalaug, the „Bieber“ canyon Fjadrargljufur and the waterfall shooting stars „Sejlalandsfoss“ and „Skogafoss“.
Even though we finished the Ring Road this won’t be the last episode - in the upcoming episode we’ll show you around in Reykjavik and take on the Golden Circle!

One morning in Reykjavík (Neighborhood of Hallgrim Church)
Day 1 of 32
This is my first stop in Reykjavik after taking a taxi from BSI Terminal (about 1900 ISK).
My previous video shows that I took the 'Flybus' to 'BSI Terminal' .... highly recommend to book it online since it's a 40 mins time on Shuttle for the distance between 'Reykjavik Airport' and 'BSI Terminal' (5500 ISK). It will be too expensive for taking a taxi and too far for walking.

THINGS TO DO in Iceland (in this episode):
► Hofn - Höfn or Höfn í Hornafirði is an Icelandic fishing town in the southeastern part of Iceland which offers incredible views of the Vatnajökull glacier.
► Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon - Massive ice chunks from the nearby Vatnajökull Glacier float down into the glacier lagoon. You can even take a boat tour into the glacier lagoon and get a closer look.
► Diamond Beach - Diamond Beach is just across the road from the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. It’s called Diamond Beach because large chunks of glacier ice flows down from the lagoon and stick on the black sand beach, which look like diamonds.
► Local Guide of Vatnajökull - Local Guide Glacier Tours is a family owned and operated business that has been running glacier tours since 1991. In the summer months they run glacier hikes over the glacier and in the winter months they offer Ice Cave Tours. Book a tour here - - tell them we sent you : )
► Vatnajökull Glacier Tour - The Vatnajökull Glacier is Europe’s largest glacier, covering 8% of Iceland’s landmass. Traversing down into the dark gray and bright blue caves, seeing the naturally formed underground passageways and glacier rivers - this is definitely one of the most unique experiences of the entire trip.
► Hengifoss - The third highest waterfall in Iceland at 128 meters high. The rock formation around the waterfall is absolutely incredible and its a great little hike along the Fjord in East Iceland.
► Iceland Reindeer - Wild reindeer live only in East Iceland, but like most animals in Iceland, they are not native. Truly incredible to see!
► Seljavallalaug Pool - Built in 1923, its said to bee one of, if not the oldest swimming pool in Iceland. Although it is technically geothermal heated, it’s not the warmest of waters. Be warned.
► Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon - 100 meters deep and about two kilometers long, the Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon is an incredible site to see. It has recently become famous thanks to Justin Bieber shooting his 2015 smash hit “I’ll Show You” here. I can’t lie, I liked the video… minus the underwear scene - not necessary Justin.
► Sólheimasandur Plane Crash - This famous plane crash in Iceland rests on a black sand beach in Southeastern Iceland. It crashed here in 1973, when a US Navy DC plane ran out of fuel - fortunately everyone in the plane survived. It is about a 4km walk from the parking lot to see the plane crash.

Snæfellsnes Peninsula - ICELAND Narrated Vacation Documentary - PART 4
This is Part 4 of 4 of the Iceland Vacation Documentary. In early August 2015 my family traveled to Iceland - this documentary shares my experience with video footage and my own thoughts with narration. We traveled on several tours to see as much as possible in one week. Part 1 is about Reykjavik the capital city, Part 2 is about the Golden Circle Tour, Part 3 is about the Blue Lagoon and Whale Watching, and Part 4 is about the Snaefellsnes Peninsula.

In the 4th episode of Circling Iceland we use Reykjavik as our home base and took on the challenge to do as much as possible in 48h - so we start very early each day to make the most our of it. Our goal is to show you the best things to do in Reykjavik one day and the best sights along the golden circle the other day.
By using the daylight to the max (only doable from late spring - early autumn!) and part of the night we were able to squeeze in even some extra activities in the Highlands, a festival and some Hot Springs. Please be aware that we planned this itinerary way ahead with the help of locals: we had a tough, very strict schedule in order to make it happen in 48h- if you want to do the same we recommend to take 2 more days to be able to enjoy it!!
Come with us as we explore the center of Reykjavik with its many sights, the nightlife, the blue lagoon and the best sights along the golden circle!
Even though we finished our trip this won’t be the last episode - in the upcoming episode we talk about everything you need to know about traveling Iceland yourself!

We partnered up with a local car rental company called who offer some of the best deals for travelers looking into renting a camper or road trip vehicle. For this the folks at SadCars provided us with a Dacia Duster for the period we did the Ring Road and the Golden Circle route.
In order to show you several accommodation options you can find in Iceland I teamed up with this time who let me stay in their ubercool suite in Reykjavik.
Nevertheless all opinions, recommendations and views are my own.

Lyrics:
These are Iceland's Regions
That you see
Touching the North Atlantic
Greenland and Norwegian Sea
These are Iceland's Regions
That you see
This Nordic island nations capital
Reykjavík’s within me
I’m Greater Reykjavík
Iceland's Capital Region
Touching the North Atlantic
In the Southwest of this Island nation
I am the Largest Urban Area
in the country of Iceland
With over 130,000 people
In population
Hello
I’m the Southern Peninsula
I have a county seat named
Keflavík I just taught ya
I am the Western Region
Ya, you guessed it I’m in the west
I have a county seat
and it goes by the name Borgarnes
Westfjords
That is the name is to go by
Ísafjörður is the name of my county seat
It’ll catch your eye
These are Iceland's Regions
That you see
Touching the North Atlantic
Greenland and Norwegian Sea
These are Iceland's Regions
That you see
This Nordic island nations capital
Reykjavík’s within me
I’m the Northwestern Region
Named this because I am in the Northwest
Sauðárkrókur Is my county seat
It is the best
Northeastern Region
That’s what you’re looking at
My county seat Akureyri
Where the star is on my map
Hey I’m the Eastern Region
I’m on the east you see
Egilsstaðir
That’s the name of the county seat in me
I’m the Southern Region
Located in the south of course
Selfoss Is my county seat
If you visit I don’t know what it’ll cost
Hi, My name is Iceland
I’m Located to the southeast of Greenland
I’m to the west of Norway
And to the Northwest of the UK
I do have a capital
And its name is Reykjavík
It’s in the southwest on this Nordic island
Touching the Atlantic
I touch the North Atlantic
Greenland and the Norwegian Sea
Goodbye for now
I hope you’ve enjoyed this lesson in geography
These are Iceland's Regions
That you see
Touching the North Atlantic
Greenland and Norwegian Sea
These are Iceland's Regions
That you see
This Nordic island nations capital
Reykjavík’s within me
