Eastleigh Lakeside Railway & The 2009 Eastleigh Works Open Days
I am fortunate to live in a part of England where I am spoiled for choice when it comes to miniature steam operated railways, but I rarely take a camera with me. I was with family members when I called into the café at Eastleigh Lake where a beautifully turned out Great Western outline steam locomotive was simmering at the head of a rake coaches ready for the next trip into the park. My mother-in-law, always game for a new experience decided to join me and my somewhat reluctant wife for a ride on the children’s railway, this time I had a camera with me to record the ride. When I returned home I watched the film back with little or no intention of using it, when I thought “I wonder if there is an audience for these steam operated miniature railways”? I hadn’t taken much video so I looked to find some old footage to pad it out, when I stumbled on some photos and video taken 10 years earlier showing the Eastleigh Railway Works Centenary celebrations. This video is the result, showing both Eastleigh’s railway heritage and the excellent miniature railway alongside the lake.
Eastleigh is located near Southampton on England’s South Coast and the LSWR Railway Works are located just across the road from the Lakeside Railway. The works were first established as a carriage and wagon facility in 1891, later going on to build many of the Southern regions locomotives, including the Bulleid Pacifics, many of which survived into preservation.
The Lakeside Railway operates on two gauges - 7 ¼ and 10 ¼ inch and the nearby works are standard gauge - 1,435 mm (4 ft 8 1⁄2 in)

An excellent afternoon spent at Eastleigh on the South Western Mainline where we see plenty of services from South Western Railway, Cross Country and freight from DB Cargo UK, Colas Rail, GBRF and a Railtour from Steam Dreams
Eastleigh was built by the London and Southwestern Railway company in 1839, when the station was built however it was actually known as Bishopstoke, this was later changed to Bishopstoke Junction in 1852, then it became Eastleigh and Bishopstoke in 1889 and finally just Eastleigh in 1923.
Eastleigh has always been a busy station with a branch line serving Salisbury and Romsey which was opened in 1847 and its also home to the Eastleigh Works which was constructed in 1891 and still sees plenty of usage each and every year.
My next station is going to be Shawford.

Eastleigh Lakeside Steam Railway ~ 27th February 2016 (Part 1)
Part 1 of my visit to the Eastleigh Lakeside Steam Railway on Saturday 27th February 2016.
After the Solent Model Railway Show, I drove down the M27 motorway to the Eastleigh Lakeside Steam Railway. The only locomotive running was 10 1/4 inch gauge 4-6-2 No. 6220 Coronation, who was shunting away a first class coach from her train prior to re-attaching herself to her train; she apparently struggled on her previous trip with one carriage too many - she was almost out of puff coming into Eastleigh Parkway Station. The footage of the train ride behind Coronation is from Eastleigh Parkway to Monks Brook Halt - and it was a bitterly cold day too!
Sandy River on Santa special 2014
Along with Edward VIII, Sandy River was our other engine pulling the Santa trains as you can see in this video you experience the full force of that mighty whistle!
Eastleigh Lakeside Railway SB&CR Celebration 2018
Eastleigh Lakeside Steam Railway celebrated the Foxhill (Farnborough) Minature Railway and the Surrey Borders and Camberley Railway, with a number of steam locomotives associated with these railways operating.
The Foxhill (Farnborough) Minature Railway was built in 1936 by engineer H. C. S. Bullock as a 10.25 inch test track to demonstrate his locomotives to potential customers. A partnership with wealthy banker Alexander Kinloch put the venture on a commercial footing. The partnership didn't last and Kinloch took over the operation and extended the railway to 1.5 miles and changed the name to the Surrey Borders and Camberley Railway. The onset of WW2 stopped the railway and it never ran again. Nothing of the route remains but it is thought that it ran from what is now the Frimley4 Business Park, across J4 of the M3 and up through Sainsbury's carpark and the Riverside Business Park.

Eastleigh Lakeside Steam Railway ~ 16th September 2018 (Part 1)
Part 1 of my afternoon visit to the Eastleigh Lakeside Steam Railway on 16th September 2018.
These were the two steam locomotives in action:
* 10 & 1/4 inch-gauge 1936-built 'Bullock' 4-6-2 No. 2006 Edward VIII on passenger duty; firstly seen going tender-first, re-creating the days of the Surrey Border & Camberley Railway.
* 7 & 1/4 inch-gauge 1947-built 4-4-2 No. 4789 William Baker on a private birthday charter/steam locomotive driving course for locomotiveman 13.
NOTE: I had my camcorder rolling when Edward VIII was going onto the turntable to resume her passenger service smokebox-first, but my camcorder decided to play up so unfortunately, I'd lost that footage as it wasn't saved onto my memory card.

Eastleigh Lakeside Steam Railway ~ 28th August 2017 (Part 1)
Part 1 of my visit on Bank Holiday Monday 28th August 2017 (yesterday) to the Eastleigh Lakeside Steam Railway. There were three locomotives in service on the day, Eurostar University Of Southampton, and 2 of the Bullock steam engines The Monarch and Edward VIII.
This video focuses on 10 and 1/4 inch gauge Eurostar Bo-Bo Electric Locomotive No. 3221 University Of Southampton, plus some of the other locomotives at Eastleigh Parkway Station.
Eastleigh Lakeside Steam Railway ~ 10th August 2017
Yesterday (Thursday 10th August 2017), after a long period of wet, wet weather, it was nice and sunny, so I took some time out by visiting the Eastleigh Lakeside Steam Railway. Unfortunately, I forgot to charge up my camcorder battery beforehand, so my video-shoots were limited, and its mostly photography in this video.
At Eastleigh Parkway Station, the big diesel-shunter No. D1994 Eastleigh was busy on shunting duty, moving various miniature steam engines in and out of the Engine Shed. Meanwhile, 1936-built Bullock 4-6-2 No. 2006 Edward VIII and Eurostar Electro-Loco University Of Southampton were on passenger duty.
Eastleigh Lakeside Steam Railway ~ Halloween ~ 27th October 2018 (Part 2)
Part 2 of my evening visit to the Eastleigh Lakeside Steam Railway on 27th October 2018 for their Halloween event.
At 5:51pm, all the 'ghost trains' were ready to go; all of them fitted with bright headlamps. As the evening went on getting darker by the minute, it became even more difficult to get decent nighttime shots of the steam locomotives passing by; only the glowing lamps being visible to the naked eye! However, I pressed on with the filming until by 6:20pm, it just simply became too dark to see anything!
WARNING: This video contains flashing lights!

A ride around the railway.
Taking a minor break from the Super Power videos. This week I bring you a video of going around our entire track. First we start off at the back with a view of the the train from the guards van. It gives you a real perspective of what it's like to be a guard at Lakeside.
Secondly on the return trip from Monks Brook you get an exclusive view of the journey back from the cab of Sandy River.

Eastleigh Lakeside Steam Railway - 31st August 2014 (Part 1)
Part 1 of my recent visit to one of my favourite miniature railways - the Eastleigh Lakeside Steam Railway.
On Sunday 31st August 2014, I originally planned to visit the Great Dorset Steam Fair. However, I realised that it was going to take me hours to get there in my car. So, I decided it was better for me to go to the Eastleigh Lakeside Steam Railway instead.
In this video, I ride behind 1946-built 10 and 1/4 inch gauge LMS Stanier 'Princess Coronation' Class 4-6-2 No. 6220 Coronation painted blue with white lining. Also, at Monks Brook Halt, I kindly asked the driver to blow Coronation's whistle for a video shoot.
