We have been spending some time in the city of Porto, Portugal and to be honest we have been blown away by what you can get in terms of food for 6€! You get a full meal with wine & desert & café in a local restaurant. Now it's not going to be ultra refined cuisine but it is exactly what you want to try when travelling to Porto in order to experience the local cuisine.
- The First restaurant is actually no where listed on Google Maps... it is located 2 mn walk from a café called Epoca (where we got the 2 cakes). For 6€ one person got: soup + fish & side + wine (0,25l) + café + fruit or desert of the day.
- Cakes café was called Epicure. They also make their own bread which supposely delicious!
- Wine tasting in Porto - we went to try Port Wine at Burmeister. Super friendly guide. 10€ per person for tour + 2 wines. 15€ for 4 wines.
- Diner time. Local restaurant serving fish. You can have bacalhau and many other local dishes. Make sure the bacalhau has soaked long enough in the water - the server will tell you. Our dinner for four people ended up being 28€. See name & local in blog post. (Trina has it)

Porto Portugal in 4K Walking Tour
This is a virtual tour from around Porto Portugal. This is one of the most amazing cities I have ever seen in Europe. I would have to say after reflecting on my visit to Portugal, Porto was the most memorable and amazing place I went and that says a lot. Sure there are other places around Lisbon like, Sintra and the south of Portugal but Porto, being located on the river has so much charm. In this video we explore the Ribiera, some markets, wine taste, explore downtown Porto, explore the bridge crossing for the train and so much more!

DAY618 : NIGHT IN PORTO
Since EU visa allow us only three months to stay, we were supposed to rush across Portugal, our first destination in Europe. However a plan is just a plan, we spent three weeks wandering around. Well that is exactly how this 1.5 years world trip itself turned into the fifth year after all. That aside, we very much liked Portugal. The emptiness of the devastated old town added a flavor to the city. We were way over our time limit with so much more left to see. Such an entertaining country.

WHERE TO EAT IN PORTO, PORTUGAL
Come and see all the delicious food and drink we worked our way through while in Porto, a place that really is foodie heaven!
While we were in Porto we ate a million Portuguese custard tarts (no joke), tried the famous Pastéis de Bacalhau (or cod fishcakes to you and me), all washed down with a port tonic, a very different drink to the sweet and heavy port you find everywhere.
As we say, the food of a place is the heart of it. You really get to know the people that way, the way of life, and what the land offers, and Porto is quickly gathering a reputation as a foodie destination.
We really hope you enjoy our food guide to Porto!

10 Things to do in Porto, Portugal Travel Guide Video Transcript: (OPORTO)
Lisbon is beautiful, but Porto is magical. We arrived in Porto with our taxi driver’s words still ringing in our ears, and we’re happy to say, the city did not disappoint!
Our time in Porto was spent sipping on Port wine, soaking in the views across the Douro River, wandering through the hilly streets, and marvelling at buildings covered in blue tiles.
In this travel guide, we’re going to share a little bit of Porto’s magic with you, and also show you some of the things you too can see, eat, and drink when you visit Porto!
Known as the Chapel of Souls, this church is covered in tiles that represent moments in the life of Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Catherine.
This bookstore is a feast for the eyes. The bookstore was even frequented by JK Rowling when she taught English in Porto, and it’s reported to have been an inspiration in her Harry Potter series.
We continued our walk downhill until we reached the São Bento Train Station.
Porto Cathedral is one of the oldest landmarks in the city with cloisters where the walls are covered in blue tiles.
We reached the neighbourhood of Ribeira, which sits right on the shores of the Douro River. This neighbourhood is lined with many sidewalk cafes, bars, and restaurants, so it’s a nice place to rest your legs and do a bit of people watching. Feeling hungry we wandered down some of the back streets until we found a small restaurant serving up local specialities.
We made time for one more attraction: the Church of Saint Francis.
The Bridge we had all been waiting for was Dom Luis the first Bridge, which spans the Douro River. The lower deck carries regular traffic with narrow walkways for those on foot, and the upper deck is reserved for pedestrians and the metro lines.
For the best views of Porto, you need to walk the upper deck!
There was only one thing on our minds: visit one of the many wineries that line this side of the river! We ended up walking into Croft for a wine tasting without need for an appointment, and this turned out to be one of our favourite activities in Porto!
Filled to the brim with port wine, cheese and chocolate, we enjoyed a light stroll along the Douro River, watching the boats bob in the water.
That’s a wrap for our visit to Porto! We hope you guys enjoyed following along and that you got a few ideas for your own trip. If you have any other suggestions of fun things to do in and around Porto, feel free to share those with travellers in the comments below.

5 Awesome Places You Have To Visit When In PORTO, Portugal!
World's most beautiful McDonalds? The narrowest house in the world? A beautiful peacock park? Panoramic views across the city? Traditional Fado music and interactive Porto wine tour? Check out these 5 wonders of Porto!
Introduction:
Hey everybody and welcome back to another episode of Triple P with me Surya Sridhar. So guys I am in one of the most beautiful destinations in all of Portugal. It was voted as the best European destination in 2014 as well as 2017. It is none other than Porto! And the best part of this trip is that I’m visiting my dad here for one week, so let’s hand it over to him.
Hey guys! I got a new job: acting on Triple P, for 1 Euro an hour. It’s fun! Let’s explore Porto together. Wonderful!
Number 1: Ribeira, Gaia, & Dom Luis Bridge
Jump onto the yellow line and get off the stop Jardim do Morro to get a full panoramic view across the city from the Dom Luis Bridge. You’ll be stunned by the beautiful city before your eyes! There are so many things to see and do. Everything from the bridge jumpers, to going on boat cruises, enjoying the music and dance performances, grabbing an aperitif or yummy snacks like churros, or maybe even buying some gifts from the line of market stalls. You’ll not run out of things to do! Lastly, don’t forget to enjoy the cable car ride down to the Gaia side to explore the best wine tour companies. It is 6 Euros one way and 9 Euros both ways!
Number 2: Calem Porto Wine Tour
On the Gaia side, you will notice a line of famous Porto wine companies including Graham’s, Ferreira, Sandeman and many more. I decided to check out Calem’s wine tour which included a guided tour to the Cálem Cellar which was super interactive and very informational. It was then followed by a tasting of two Port Wines: White and Special Reserve, which could be enjoyed during a special Fado concert, with a male and female voice, accompanied by the traditional Portuguese Guitar as well as the Classical one.
Number 3: World’s Most Beautiful McDonalds
This McDonalds restaurant was inaugurated in 1995 and was previously the Imperial Café, an emblematic historic building from the 30s by the Aliados Avenue. It is not your conventional McD especially due to its luxurious look, as well as the fact that in the McCafe you get a genuine Portuguese coffee with a custard tart called Pasteis de Nata. Very surprising indeed!
Number 4: Crystal Palace Garden
More than 150 years old, this place is loved by both tourists and locals. It is a lush place, home to many plant and animal species including the colourful peacock. If you make your way to the end, you’ll find a fun maze that also overlooks the beautiful Ribeira river. Take your time to explore this area, soak up the suns rays and when you’re tired, head on over to a nearby local coffee shop for a Portuguese Pingo and their famous cream filled pastry.
Number 5: Caramelite Church, Carmo Church & The Hidden House
Known as one of the most curious structures in Porto, these two churches that stand as two different religious buildings, but actually look like a single architectural structure. Separating them, is the world’s narrowest house, only one meter in width. It only costs a few Euros to explore and has 3 storeys in total. The interesting story behind this house is that it was formed specially to stop the communication between the nuns of the Caramelite Church and the monks at the Carmo Church. Very interesting indeed!

day614 : Walk around Porto @Portugal
DAY614 : CHARMING CITY, PORTO
I found Porto quite appealing. The old terraced houses along the hills with the orange roof give a kind of unique impression. Some of the buildings are abandoned and there are collapsed walls, which to me add some kind of charm to the cityscape. The tram line runs on top of the stone pavements. The chime from several churches echo through the old pleasant town with nice visiting spots such as the bookstore inspired the Harry Potter world and the castle-like gorgeous entrance hall of the train station. So much fun just to walk around, what a nice place. I was more than satisfied, drinking porto wine at the river side restaurant after a long walk.

Portuguese Food Review | Eating a Francesinha in Porto, Portugal
Join us for a Portuguese Food Review as we try eating a Francesinha in Porto, Portugal at one of the most famous restaurants (Bufete Fase) in the city. This Portuguese sandwich (Francesinha meaning Little Frenchie) originates from Porto invented by Daniel da Silva attempting to adapt the croque-monsieur after spending time in France and Belgium. The classic or most famous interpretation of the Francesinha includes the sandwich surrounded on a bed of chips smothered in sauce containing beer and tomato. The Porto sandwich itself features bread with wet cured ham, fresh sausage, inguiça, roast meat (steak) and melted cheese. Locals almost always have a favorite spot to eat this sandwich. Have you tried if before? Where do you think is the best place to grab one?

Portuguese Food Review | Eating a Francesinha in Porto, Portugal Video Transcript:
if there is one meal that you have to eat when you come to Porto it is the famous Francesinha. We've been hearing about this sandwich forever. We're super excited to finally try it.
Basically this sandwich is said to have roots in Belgium and France. Apparently a Portuguese man had been living overseas and then when he returned back home to Portugal he was like I'm going to bring the Croque-monsieur to my country and kind of give it a little twist so the locals will enjoy it. And so the Francesinha was born. It is a massive sandwich we've seen them preparing it out front. It looks so so good. It looks so amazing. We're going to show you a few clips of that.
We're eating at the most famous restaurant of them all coming to Bufete Fase and they just specialize in the Francesinha. That is all they serve. There is no menu. You get this and you order a beer with it. You just come here for the sandwich and the beer. It is a must so that is what we're having.
Now we have two and these things are massive. Behemoths. I don't know how we're going to tackle this but let's talk about the ingredients.
Two slices of thick bread apparently the thicker the better and inside grilled bread too.
They grill it. It has got I believe sausage. Steak or roast beef. Look at all of that cheese. Copious amounts of cheese. Yeah, it is three different kinds of meat. Let's cut it down the middle. So you can see the inside. This is a dissection guys.
This is the dissection. It is covered in cheese all melted and the sauce that it is in it is a tomato and beer sauce. Look at how big that is.
I forgot to mention. I think it is Sagres is that how you say it? You've got to drink some beer with this. Sagres.
That seems to be the most popular beer that we've seen in Portugal so far.
What say you? Oh my gosh. Life changing?
There is no way I would want to share this with you. Now that I've tried it I'm glad I have my own. We're not going to be having much else today but we need our own. We asked for the sauce to be spicy and it is.
Anyways that was a gut bomb for the ages but in a good way. It is the kind of meal that you either have to really bring your appetite or share with a friend. It was a bit like a challenge sandwich. A little bit like a Gatsby we had in South Africa in Cape Town
But man it was good. And price point?
The sandwiches were 10 Euros each and the beer was only 1.50 That included the fries. Everything. In total for the meal for both of us plus two beers each it came to 23 Euros. I thought it was good value and my gosh we are stuffed. It is like the ultimate siesta time. I feel like we'll be skipping dinner tonight. We'll see you guys soon with more travel and food videos from Europe. Tata.
This is part of our Travel in Portugal video series showcasing Portuguese food, Portuguese culture and Portuguese cuisine.
