Eau Claire Distillery in Turner Valley Alberta
Episode 63. During a recent holiday I had the opportunity to drop in to Eau Claire and visit their craft distillery in Turner Valley, AB. I was very impressed talking with the distillers and workers. Then, I had the unexpected privilege of talking with their Master Distiller, Caitlin Quinn. Sadly I did not have my microphone with me so the audio is poor. Still, I was so impressed with their attention to their craft I wanted to post the short interview anyway. These people are doing excellent things, even harvesting their local barley by horse power! Definitely a distillery to watch! #whiskyfabric#whiskytube#whiskyneighbour #whiskyfabric#whiskytube#whiskyneighbour

Motoburrito, Turner Valley, Alberta
When Motoburrito opens their trailer for business, we know that Spring finally arrived. The food is fresh and delicious. We call it our little Mexico on the Prairie. Go for the Dirty Sanchez (don't ask where the name comes from, you don't want to know!) or the Pollo Loco. Even the chickens love it ;-)
These dishes are trusted favourites in Mexico. It is as authentic as you can expect from people that spend half their time South and can serve you in Alberta Spanglish if you wish.
Whatever you do, don't miss out on the coffee. Tell them that you want the Two Cowboys coffee special. We guarantee that you will be pleasantly surprised. Note though, under no circumstances do we take responsibility for what follows. Refrain from driving or riding for at least a couple of hours. You will need the rest, trust us!

Turner Valley Campground, Turner Valley, Alberta,Canada 26 July 2017
I found this little place by wandering aimlessly in Alberta and found it to be a nice spot to stop for 4-5 days. I was introduced to Tiger ice cream which is hard to describe, and some really friendly people. The library has an external electrical outlet, and water source so if you were biking or hiking through it is a good resource. The campground does not have Wi-Fi but both the library and the Subway in town do. The campground is a town run affair, and you check in at the pool with Miss Judy. I stayed for several days while trying to catch an opening south of the border to go visit and camp in Glacier or Yellowstone National Parks. Neither one opened up but this was a nice place to hang out in.

Bottling Parlour Gin at Alberta's Eau Claire Distillery
Gin-Bottling Day at Eau Claire Distillery is a collaboration of human dexterity and strength of will—it was amazing we all managed to get through the process without imbibing. The distillery was full of the flowery scent of this hand-crafted spirit.
Thanks to Eau Claire for having me in on bottling day! Read more about Eau Claire Distillery on my blog, Zoey Sips:

Striking it rich in 1914 in the Turner Valley Oil Field, Alberta
Rancher William Stewart Herron knows there's oil under Southern Alberta's Turner Valley. It bubbles up out of the ground as natural gas. Pioneering cowboys used it for campfire fuel. The problem is, he also knows that the bulk of the oil is deep down below the earth and he has neither the equipment nor the know how to get at it. He teams up with veteran Canadian oil driller Archibald Dingman. Together, they discover and produce light oil — gasoline — helping found Alberta's petroleum industry and bringing a new economy to Western Canada.
From the CBC 2017 series The Story of Us
Turner Valley grapples with energy past
Calgary developer Ken Till was on the way to making his fortune during Alberta's last boom when his plans smacked up against McLeod No. 3 well. Till was halfway through construction of the first phase of a new residential Turner Valley neighbourhood when workers discovered a small sweet gas leak coming from the 1927-vintage McLeod well. The cleanup on the leak cost Alberta's Orphan Well Association $2.3 million and more than a year of work.
