Ebor Falls - New South Wales Hiking

A short walk at Ebor Falls, one of the most impressive of the many waterfalls along the Waterfall Way in Northern New South Wales. The falls consists of two very different but equally spectacular drops, and we were lucky enough to show up at the right time of day to see a rainbow below the lower waterfall (mid-late afternoon).

A great stop-off between the coast and Armidale along Waterfall Way, Ebor Falls offers spectacular waterfall views, scenic lookouts and a picnic area.

Watch the Guy Fawkes River plunging 100 metres over two waterfalls at Ebor Falls. Three lookout platforms along the edge of the gorge - upper falls, lower falls and valley view - give spectacular views out into the rugged gorge country.

A walking track links the upper falls and lower falls lookout platforms via the escarpment edge and is an easy walk that’s suitable for children. You can start out at either end and return via the road.

Golden everlasting daisies bloom around the upper falls in the warmer months and rare ground orchids flower in the late spring and summer. If you’re lucky, you may even spot a wedge-tailed eagle soaring above you as you picnic in the grassy woodlands area next to the falls.

The Gumbaynggirr people traditionally called Ebor Falls ‘Martiam’, which means ‘the great falls’.

The falls are a well known tourist attraction within Guy Fawkes River National Park, with viewing platforms of the falls and walking tracks, a rest area with barbecues, an information display, picnic tables and toilet. In 2008 the waterfalls were attracting up to 80,000 visitors each year. Camping is not permitted at Ebor Falls, however camping is available at nearby Cathedral Rock National Park.

The last few weeks of summer were hands out the window to the sound of Starley - Call on me. All nighters that lead into parties in the middle of nowhere. Hikes that leave your right leg sore for 5 days. Little berries at the bottom of falls that help you push away hunger when your cold. Goosebumps from the mist that glides over rocks at the bottom of 130 foot falls. Fear of stonefish and deep concentration on the top of 60 and 80 foot cliffs. Most alive we will ever feel and i hope this video makes you as hungry for that feeling as I am. Live free, live wild.

Ebor Falls within the Guy Fawkes National Park is one of the few sensational waterfalls we’ve come across that is less than minutes walk from the car park.

It’s a great stop-off between the coast and Armidale along Waterfall Way - somewhere where you can stop, take a break and watch the Guy Fawkes River plunging 100m over two waterfalls at Ebor Falls.

It is just after Fusspots, a quirky little cafe where we stopped for some amazing scones first!

Ebor Falls offers spectacular waterfall views, scenic lookouts and a picnic area.

We also saw some beautiful birds including one curious black cockatoo who was trying to figure or what our drone was ????

Ebor Falls

Ebor Falls is a tiered waterfall on the Guy Fawkes River, located near Ebor and about 37 kilometres (23 mi) north-east of Wollomombi on Waterfall Way in the New England region of New South Wales, Australia.

The first lookout is on a sealed road, approximately 200 metres (660 ft) off the Waterfall Way. This viewing platform shows the upper falls tumbling 115 metres (377 ft) over 4 layers of columned basalt rock in two falls. The lower Ebor falls, 600 metres (2,000 ft) further on, plunge over Permian sedimentary rocks into a steep forested gorge below.[1]

The falls are a well known tourist attraction within Guy Fawkes River National Park, with viewing platforms of the falls and walking tracks, a rest area with barbecues, an information display, picnic tables and toilet. In 2008 the waterfalls were attracting up to 80,000 visitors each year.[2] Camping is not permitted at Ebor Falls, however camping is available at nearby Cathedral Rock National Park.

The falls were first protected in a recreation reserve in 1895.[2] In September 2008 new lookout platforms were opened. These replaced platforms that were destroyed by fire in 2007.
