Evrytania, Greece - Panagia Prousiotissa Monastery in 4K!
The route from Karpenissi to the monastery of Panagia is difficult and tedious in some places dangerous. But once I faced the edge of a deep ravine, compensated immediately. The landscape is frightening.. The church is the icon of the Virgin Mary, built under a pan, like a rock cave. It is no coincidence that the monastery receives hundreds of visitors every year. Make sure you're one of them.
The story goes back a thousand years to the time when the heresy against the holy icons, Iconoclasm, was raging all over the Christian world. The Byzantine Emperor Theophilos had ordered, all holy icons be removed from the churches and burned. The Orthodox people were protecting and hiding the holy icons. They put themselves at risk of exile and even death for those icons.
The monastery of Panaghia Prousiotissa is built on a steep rock.
According to the tradition, it was founded in 829 by monks Dionysios and Timotheos, who brought with them the icon of Virgin Mary from Prousa in Asia Minor. However, it is more possible that the monastery was established between the 12th and 14th century.
It became a shelter for civilians during the Turkish occupation, at the same time G. Karaiskakis received treatment here. The monastery was destroyed and ransacked many times during the Turkish occupation and was set on fire by the Germans in 1944. You will find religious icons dating back to the 13th and 16th century as well as a library where many important relics are kept.
The Museum of the Proussos Monastery, where old ecclesiastical relics and personal items of Georgios Karaiskakis are kept.
You can also see the “steps” of Virgin Mary in Typoma, geologic formations that look like footprints. According to the tradition these are the footprints of Virgin Mary when she came from Prousa. You will also have the chance to see the lookout towers (“karaoulia”) of Karaiskakis above the Monastery of Panaghia Prousiotissa, which were built during the Revolution.
In Prousos, the “Agathidis’ Library” is also very interesting. The library was founded along with the middle school in 1880.

This year, in Pithagorio of Samos the Divine Liturgy of the Resurrection was celebrated in the Holy and Historical Temple of the Metamorfoseos Tou Sotiros(Transfiguration of Savior).
Every year a lot of believers from Samos and other parts of Greece, as well as tourists who have a special bond with the island, come to celebrate Pascha and to live the tradition of the Resurrection in the Temple of the Metamorfoseos Tou Sotiros!
The Temple is located on a hill in the southwestern part of Pythagorio, next to the Lycourgos Logothetis Tower(Museum). It is devoted to the Transfiguration of the Savior and is celebrated on August 6th!
The foundation of the temple began on February 20th 1831 and was completed on June 25th, 1853.
The initiative for the erection and the plans of the temple belongs to Lycourgos Logothetis, who was the leading figure of the Samian Revolution against the Turks in 1821!
The temple was erected to commemorate the salvation victory of the Samians, in a naval battle that took place in the straits of Mykali with the Turkish ship, on August 6, 1824, which coincides with the day of the (Metamorfoseos Tou Sotiros) Savior's Transfiguration.
The temple is a symbol of the liberation of Samos by the Turks, so for every year in Pythagorio, the Transfiguration of the Savior is celebrated with brilliantly brilliant two-day events and representation of the naval battle of Mykali on August 6, 1824!
