The Echizen Daibutsu Great Buddha is like going to one of Japan's greatest temples and having the entire place to yourself!
Katsuyama-shi in Fukui has one of Japan's most remarkable sights, and still completely unknown to the tourist guidebook experts and even the well traveled. It does not have centuries of history (it was actually opened in 1987) and the 17m tall Great Buddha was modeled after one in Luoyang, China. Even more amazing is the whole Seidaiji temple concept was done and funded by one guy - a local taxi tycoon (think about that the next time you hand over a wad of cash as taxi fare).
For Japan, the building has a resemblance to the Todaiji Temple in Nara - though it would be very hard to outdo it. The Echizen Great Buddha is also 2m taller than the Todaiji Great Buddha, plus next to an untouched mountain forest and has a 5 story pagoda you can climb to get a commanding view over the whole area.
It could be said that the Echizen Great Buddha is another example of a Japanese 1980's Bubble Era boondoggle or white elephant. The area is not close to any major cities, and from its opening visitors and taxes paid have been scarce. Katsuyama City finally took over the temple.
Along with the famed Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum and other sights, visiting the Echizen Great Buddha can make an excellent day of sightseeing.
If you want to see an extraordinary place without the mobs all around you taking selfies, go see the Echizen Great Buddha soon. It just takes one tour guide or tourism pusher to start sending in the huge tourist hordes by the busloads and ruining an amazingly tranquil and beautiful experience - one long since gone from Japan decades ago when word of mouth began sending in the throngs of people.

As we introduced in our previous video that I visited Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum in Katsuyama City, Fukui Prefecture with Mr. Ugyen Dorji and his family. After we left the museum, we headed to Seidai-ji Temple to see Echizen Daibutsu (the Great Buddha of Daishizan Seidai-ji Temple).
The Great Buddha of Daishizan Seidai-ji Temple is 2 meters taller than the Great Buddha of Nara!
Even the Great Buddha is very big and tall, Mr. Ugyen Dorji’s son who is only 2 years old didn’t even get overwhelmed and/or scared. As soon as he walked into the Hall of the Great Buddha, he was running around with smile. He put his hands together and prayed respectfully.
Gojyuu-no-tou (five-story pagoda) is about 75 meters tall. There is an elevator available in the building, so visitors can go up easily and enjoy the scenery from the top floor.

The modern city of Echizen was established on October 1, 2005, from the merger of the city of Takefu, and the town of Imadate (from Imadate District); although the Echizen Basin has been an important regional center for over 1,500 years. For a year it was the home of Murasaki Shikibu, author of The Tale of Genji. Her father was governor of Echizen Province in the Heian period.

福井県勝山市には清大寺越前大仏という寺院があります
この勝山で産まれ一代で巨万の富を作り上げその財産を使いこの建物を作り上げた多田清という人物、僕は父から何度も話を聞きました。
その話の壮大さ、多田清という人物の凄さ これから父の後を継ぎ経営者を志す人間としてそのルーツが気になって仕方なくなり自分なりに色々調べ居ても立ってもいられなくなり独り訪れました。
全てが壮大で美しいこの場所の雰囲気が伝われば幸いです。
お盆期間中なのにガラッガラでした・・・駐車場は恐竜博物館の臨時駐車場になり一杯でしたが越前大仏は10人も居なかったです。
これから何か考え事をしたいときはここを訪れようと思います。

大師山清大寺 越前大仏ーブータンからやってきた家族 in 福井県勝山市② ー
ブータンから来られている教員研修留学生ウゲン・ドルジさんのご家族と福井県勝山市にある「福井県立恐竜博物館」を訪れた後、大師山清大寺に足をのばしました。
大仏殿に入ると目に飛び込んでくるのは、とっても大きな大仏さま。
なんと奈良の大仏より2メートル余りも大きな坐像の大仏なのです。（像高は約17メートル）
圧倒されるような大きな大仏さまを目の前に、物おおじせず楽しそうな笑顔を見せていた息子さんのブー君。まだ2歳ですがしっかりと手を合わせます。
大師山清大寺の五重塔の高さは75メートルもあるということで、上るのが大変そうだと思っていましたが、内部はエレベーター完備です。この日はあいにく曇り空でしたが、晴れているともっときれいな景色を楽しめると思います。

それは、勝山城博物館と越前大仏です。
B級スポット、珍スポット扱いされていますが、
実際行ってみると、なかなか立派なものでした。
でも閑散としていて、
廃墟探索気分にもなりました…。
いろんな意味で、見ごたえがありすぎて、
恐竜博物館へ行く時間がなくなってしまいました…。

Hello everyone! Welcome back to this second episode of the Japan Project! Today I will bring you to visit the Daibustu in Kamakura. Even this episode is recorded using 4k Yi camera as well the Zoom H4n.
I decided to add an OST too in the background because i felt like it was perfect with the cicada sound that we can hear in summer in Kamakura.
I used a flat log profile and color edited with DaVinci Resolve. I'm still trying to work on the coloring part, so any comment is highly appreciated. Do you have any preferred LUT to suggest? How do you usually color grading your footage? Please let me know in the comments below!
