▶︎ We are a German - Japanese couple based in Munich, Germany and like to share our adventures around the world. We met in Niigata, Japan 2014 as Kate was there for a summer school with her university. After 1,5 years of long distance relationship Naoto moved to Germany and since August 2017 we moved together in Munich and got married in September, 2019!

Kate is 27 and is originally from a small village in lower saxony (middle of Germany). Already during her school time, she went abroad for an exchange year at a US High School in Massachusetts. This experience changed her worldview and mind setting forever and she continued to explore the diversity of the world through various courses, internships, semesters and trips around the globe. After her Master’s degree in Engineering Management from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology she started as a Consultant in the field of artificial intelligence at IBM.

Naoto is 28, grew up in Saitama, Japan (close to Tokyo) and achieved a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Niigata University in Japan. His first experience abroad was a 6-week summer school in Illinois, USA during his studies. In addition, he was a member of “International Volunteer Group” at Niigata University and thus he developed an interest in supporting/connecting people from different countries. After finishing his masters, he moved to Germany and now is moving towards into the world of data science.

Whales dies at Namibian coast
Many whale are found In Namibian sea because of eco friendly environment of that country. But sometimes a whales mysterious dearth can be encountered sporadically along the coastal areas of Namibia. In 2018 alone three dearth were recorded. Whether it's natural or not, that remain mysterious.

Pelican Point is a 40min drive from Walvis Bay, on the coast of Namibia.
Kayaking in Swakopmund, Namibia
Swakopmund and Walvis Bay are two coastal Namibian cities about 3-4 hours (depending on the speed of your kombi) from Windhoek. On our free day we had the great opportunity to go kayaking with the seals in the early AM off of Pelican Point in Walvis Bay.
Namibian Wetlands and EcoTourism
Namibia is the driest country south of the Sahara. Therefore water and wetlands are a critical resource for the people, their production systems and for the environment. Wetlands are Namibia's most rare and threatened ecosystems. There are four wetlands in Namibia that are included in the List of Wetlands of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention, the Orange River Mouth (shared jointly with South Africa), Sandwich Harbour, Walvis Bay and Etosha Pan.

This past summer I worked for Ecomarine as an Instructor doing private & group lessons and corporate events out of Jericho Beach and guiding sunset tours from Granville Island.
It was a great experience and gave me the opportunity to meet people from all over the world. Many had never paddled before so it was super fun to introduce them to an incredible sport and a true west coast experience.

KAYAKING WITH SEALS IN NAMIBIA
2018 UPDATE: During the fall of 2018, I worked for a study abroad company called Semester at Sea and one of our stops on the 5 month, 12 country adventure was Namibia (which is in southern Africa on the Atlantic side). We went on a cold and wet adventure to kayak in the Atlantic ocean with seals, penguins, and even some whales. I think it's time for another visit!
