Established in 1810, the Edathua church is dedicated to St. George. It is believed that prayers and offerings at this church help to heal mental disorders and other ailments. During the annual feast (5th, 6th and 7th of May) pilgrims from all parts of South India, irrespective of caste and creed, visit the St. George Forane Church and seek the blessings of the saint.

0600 and 0700 hrs - Fridays 1600 hrs as well

Edathua St George Forane Church procession 2012, Alappuzha
The annual feast (203rd) at St George Forane Church, Edathua was celebrated on 7 May, 2012 with Tamil Holy Mass followed by a grand procession at 4 pm. It is the only occasion on which the statue of St George is taken out of the church. The festival commemorates the death of St. George, the heavenly patron of the parish. The beautifully colored wooden altar of the church and the roof paintings worth a visit.
The Church (under the Archdiocese of Chaganacherry) is 20 km from Alappuzha on the Thiruvalla road. Hundreds of pilgrims from Tamil Nadu participated in this feast. Ph: 0477 2212234, 2215851.

Edathua Perunnal - Feast of St. George
Celebrated with much pomp and grandeur, the Edathua Perunnal is the annual feast of the St. George's Church at Alappuzha. Devotees from far and wide swarm the premises of the church to attend this magnificent festival. One of the highlights of the perunnal (festival) is the procession of the statue of the Saint that is taken out to be placed on the dais in the centre of the Basilica. Cultural performances are held on all days. We provide here the video of this grand event.
