Eden Valley Railway - April 2018
Something a little different this time - not a steam engine in sight! I had a great day out at the Eden Valley Railway, which is based at Warcop station between Kirkby Stephen and Appleby-in-Westmorland on the old NER Stainmore line. Trains currently run for two and a half miles from Warcop towards Appleby, although there are hopes that they will be able to run all the way through to Appleby station in due course.
The motive power on the day I was there was number 205009, a Class 205 Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (affectionately known as a 'Thumper'), which was built in 1957 as a two car set and later had a third car added. This unit also unusual in that it has a dual colour scheme, being 'blood and custard' (crimson and cream) on the platform side and an equally stylish 'chocolate and custard' on the other. In BR service it would have carried a much less eye-catching plain green livery.
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all at the Eden Valley Railway for making my visit such a pleasantly memorable day. In the words of Mr Schwartzenegger I'll be back!
Eden Valley Railway, Warcop, 7th June 2012
The Eden Valley Railway at Warcop is found as normal, closed ! Never found it open yet ! Today in heavy rain (splodge on lense) we see 37042 and 47799 along with the other stock of waggons, coaches and souther region multipull units.
4-CEP to Flitholme, Eden Valley Railway, September 2014
Following the Eden Valley Raiway Trust's AGM on 13th September 2014 a members' special train was run from Warcop to Flitholme over a section of line not normally in use for passenger trains. The train consisted of MLVs 9003 and 9005 and 4-CEP 2315.
This trip to Flitholme was filmed from the train and was the first time the videographer and editor had made this trip, having not been on the Branch Line Society trip in May 2014.
For anyone not interested in the longeurs of a slow trundle in the Westmorland countryside in a southern slam door unit the interesting parts are the first three minutes and the last one and a bit :)
Battery Power at Warcop, 17th February 2019
On 17th February 2019 the Eden Valley Railway's 4-CEP 2315 and MLVs 9003 and 9005 made two trips to Southfields and back on battery power. This was the first stage of testing whether the battery operated train will be capable of operating a full hourly service during the running season.
The first part of the film is the train arriving at Warcop at the end of the first run. The footage from the second run shows, in order;
the departure from Warcop
slowing for the speed restriction in Wild Boar Cutting
passing over the Sandford Road bridge
arriving at the current limit of operatin, Southfields
passing over Sandford Road bridge on the return trip with the A66 in the background
heading out of Wild Boar Cutting
arriving at Warcop Station
Work on bodywork of the MLVs is continuing and both the interior and exterior of the 4-CEP are going to get a thorough cleaning in the near future.
Eden Valley Railway Appleby Part 6. 1080p HD????
Filmed with the Mavic 2 zoom. Thanks very much for watching.
47799 on the move!
Footage of 47799 at Warcop on 22nd April 2012. A bit of clagging is followed by a couple of trundles up and down the car park.
The first move is slow due to uncertainty about the clearance between the loco and some wood stacked by the fence. Having ascertained that there was no problem, the second run was a bit quicker.
Shame about the weather - sunshine and showers make for poor filming conditions, especially when the sun is not at an ideal angle.

Velocipede Rally at Warcop, 7th June 2017
The Velocipede Group ( held a rally on the Eden Valley Railway on 7th June and the morning of 8th June 2017. Thanks to the inclement weather of 8th June all the material in this film was taken on 7th June. It was a bit windy, so there is a lot of wind noise on parts of the film.
For the rally permission was granted by Sustrans for about half a mile of railway beyond the normal limit of passenger operation to be used. This took the machines to a fence currently placed across the track between New Hall and Far Bank End.
This is the first version of this film. Our intention is to put some music to it, partly to negate the wind noise, but we haven't had any inspiration as to suitable music yet.
Eden Valley Railway At Coupland Beck Part 9.1080p HD????
