GERMANY: Waldeck Castle & Edersee Dam [HD]

Castle Waldeck is situated on top of a hill, above lake Edersee, offering a breathtaking view of the lake, the national park and the Kellerwald-Edersee nature reserve.

Waldeck castle rests on the remnants of an 11th-century fortification, towering over the town of Waldeck.

Formerly the ancestral seat and residence of the Counts of Waldeck, the fortification was later used as military barracks. In 1734 it was a state penitentiary, and in subsequent years was used as state archive, forestry office, and, as early as 1906, was put to use as a hotel. Today it belongs to the Waldeckian domanial administration and is public property. In September 2009, new leaseholder Volker Deigendesch reopened the redesigned Hotel Schloss Waldeck.

Edersee is a reservoir (man-made lake used to store water).

The Edersee Dam ('Edertalsperre') is a hydroelectric dam constructed between 1908 to 1914 across the Eder river. The dam is primarily used hydroelectric power generation and to regulate water levels for shipping on the Weser river.

Waldeck & Edersee are located in the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg in Hesse, Germany.

The Edersee area is a very popular recreation and camping region in Germany. The Edersee Dam was build between 1908 and 1914.
The extreme low water levels in the lake result from the very hot and dry summer in 2015.

The Edersee area is a very popular recreation and camping region in Germany.
The Edersee Dam was build between 1908 and 1914.
The bridge at the end of the video is called 'Aseler Brücke'. It is the last remainder of the former village of Asel and normally completely under water.
The extreme low water levels in the lake result from the very hot and dry summer in 2015.
The camera is a little bit shaky - sorry for that! :)

Das Edertal - der beste Ort, um reich zu werden

Die Eder hat ein großes Einzugsgebiet, in dem Schiefer vorkommt. Das Gestein enthält in geringen Mengen Gold, das durch Erosion in den Fluss geschwemmt wird. Zwischen Frankenberg und Fritzlar sollen 35 Tonnen liegen.

In this video we're leaving the Edersee and visit the medievel town of Fritzlar.
I lost almost all of my footage of staying at the Edersee so there is not alot to show about that anymore.
We had also trouble with shooting video in Fritzlar because of my gimbal failure. But with photographs and some footage, you get a good feeling what it looked like.

RADTOUR: ????????Ederseebahn - Radweg von Korbach bis zum Edersee 37 km

Der Ederseebahn-Radweg zählt zu den schönsten Radwegen Hessens.
Bis 1991 verband die Ederseebahn Amsterdam mit Bad Wildungen. Heute ist es ein durchgängig asphaltierter Bahnradweg für Jung und Alt.
Wir starten am südlichen Stadtrand von Korbach am Parkplatz an der Wildunger Landstraße und fahren durch kleine Tunnel, vorbei an alten Bahnhöfen und genießen die weiten Aussichten über das Waldecker Land. Der Selbacher Viadukt ist beeindruckend.
Der Bahntrassenweg endet in Buhlen. Hier schließt sich der Radweg R6 an und führt zum Affolderner See.
Direkt am Affolderner See kann man mit eigener Muskelkraft mit der Eder-Draisine auf den Schienen der Bahnstrecke fahren, eine besondere Attraktion für die ganze Familie.
Auf der gegenüberliegenden Straßenseite befindet sich das tolle Haus, das mit samt seiner kompletten Einrichtung auf dem Kopf steht. Es ist das einzige seiner Art in Hessen.
Von Affoldern ist es nicht mehr weit zum Edersee. Hoch auf dem Berg ist das Schloß Waldeck zu sehen.
Nach Einbruch der Dunkelheit wird die 400 Meter lange Edersee-Staumauer in langsam wechselnden Farben beleuchtet.

We woke up next to Edersee lake - our best spot so far on the route. It was beautiful.

Day 5

Alsfeld - inspiration for the Red Riding Hood tale.

Day 6

Marburg is where Brothers Grimm studied.

N.B Marburg center is an environmental zone, you will need a German environmental badge.

Day 7

Steinau an Der Straße is the childhood home of the Brothers Grimm till they were 12.

Day8

Hanau is the birthplace of the Brothers Grimm and last stop. (This is normally the beginning of the route.)

The route itself is not fairytale-themed, you have to seek out the castles, monuments, streets, and towns. I had researched a lot into each town, city or village and put together an itinerary.

I think it is important that we mention we have edited our video purposefully in a way that makes the route look and feel whimsical and fairy tale-like for effect.

Edersee-Atlantis 2: Wenn Alt-Berich aus den Fluten steigt

Edersee: Es sind Orte mit mystischer Ausstrahlung. Asel, Berich und Bringhausen liegen im Edersee begraben, sie sind das Edersee-Atlantis. In einem Video-Dreiteiler stellen wir die Orte, die manchmal auftauchen, vor. Hier: Alt-Berich.
1914 wurden die Dörfer nach dem Bau der Sperrmauer überschwemmt. Doch manchmal, meist im Spätsommer oder Herbst, wenn der Edersee viel Wasser verloren hat, tauchen sie wieder auf. Dann lockt das Edersee-Atlantis Tausende Menschen an. Zuletzt war das im Oktober 2015 der Fall, als unsere Aufnahmen für die drei kurzen Videos entstanden. Ob der Edersee auch in diesem Jahr so viel Wasser verlieren wird, so dass die Orte wieder auftauchen, ist derzeit noch nicht klar. Einige alte Mauern sind noch erhalten, viele Grundrisse sind an den Orten zu erkennen, sie sind die letzten Überbleibsel der Wohnhäuser, Stallungen und Scheunen.
