West Tisbury, Massachusetts on the island of Martha's Vineyard
FOR MORE INFORMATION: - Time slips away easily in West Tisbury. The clock in the church tower is hand-wound, and strikes the hour by day and night. Music Street, in the heart of the village, got its name from the sound of the pianos brought back by the whaling captains and heard through open windows 150 years ago. The tiny police station by the Mill Pond is just as described in the mystery books of 13th generation town resident Cynthia Riggs. Across the street, an old country store, long since closed, collapses in on itself. In the town cemetery, visitors leave small toy birds on the grave of 19th century poet Nancy Luce, who kept chickens as household pets.
You can definitely get away from it all in West Tisbury, Martha's Vineyard's traditional farming community. The porch at Alley's General Store, in the heart of the village, is the place to watch the day go by. Pick up a copy of the Broadside, for one thin dime, and find out what the locals are talking about the single sheet, front-and-back paper is a distinctive blend of news and speculation, and is put out by a West Tisbury couple who seem to know and hear everything.
USA: PRESIDENT CLINTON & FAMILY MARTHA'S VINEYARD VACATION
English/Nat
President Clinton celebrates his 52nd birthday on Wednesday but the event looks set to be a subdued affair in the wake of his speech to the nation about Monica Lewinsky.
Clinton will mark his birthday on Martha's Vineyard - he and his wife and daughter will spend 12 days on the island trying to reclaim a private life made uncomfortably public.
Arriving in Edgartown on the Massachusetts' island on Tuesday, they were greeted by singer Carly Simon and presidential confidante Vernon Jordan.
It's the fourth time the Clintons have come to the exclusive resort but they're .
And the president is guaranteed a warm welcome, despite admitting he lied about his relationship with Monica Lewinsky.
Flying away for a well-timed vacation.
The Clintons arrived in the exclusive resort of Martha's Vineyard to a warm welcome.
It's their fourth trip to the Vineyard, and this time they even brought the dog.
Buddy was first down the stairs, followed by a relaxed looking Bill Clinton who got a big hug from his old friend Vernon Jordan and the singer Carly Simon.
Jordan, a Washington power broker, is a long-time confidant of the president.
He helped former White House intern Monica Lewinsky in seeking a job and finding a lawyer last December, before her relationship with Clinton became known.
Clinton and Jordan often spend their vacations together.
In almost two weeks away from Washington, aides said the president would forego some of his social calendar and beloved golf to make good on his promise to the nation to move on and get back to work.
The First Family is again staying at Oyster Pond, at the borrowed compound of Boston developer Richard Friedman.
The 1846 homestead on 20 acres of green pastureland sits at the end of a long, sandy driveway, affording the family total privacy.
And they'll need it for the Clintons are the talk of the town.
Richard Boudreaux is setting up his Bill Clinton cutout, using it to lure tourists to his store.
Standing by her man, literally, is Hillary Rodham Clinton - wife, advisor, and defender.
Clinton's prime-time declaration that he had misled people, including even my wife hasn't changed their placement at Boudreaux's store.
They're side by side, the same as last year.
The shop owner says he's disappointed in the president, but forgiving of his actions.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
You've got to appreciate being the president. I know he made a mistake. Everybody makes mistakes. He who is without sin throw the first stone. Right?
SUPER CAPTION: Richard Boudreaux, Shop Owner
Welcome signs decorate windows, in preparation for the first family's arrival even though some make a passing reference to Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr.
But not everyone in the Massachusetts coast community plans to greet Clinton with open arms.
UPSOUND: (English)
Sleaze that he is...
SUPER CAPTION: Dianne Mulroney, tourist
Diane Mulroney's reaction is an example of the paradox of Clinton's popularity.
While calling him a sleaze, she nonetheless takes time out to pose for a photo as if drawn to the charisma of the cutout.
Mulroney says her feeling about the office remain the same, but not her feelings about the man who currently holds it.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
Respect for the presidency itself...but I think we've had such a moral decline. We should be able to look up to our president and I don't look up to him anymore.
SUPER CAPTION: Diane Mulroney, Tourist
This year marks the first family's fourth visit to the island off the Cape Cod coast.
With its picturesque harbour, the exclusive community is a world away from the hustle and bustle of Washington.

USA: CLINTON FAMILY LEAVE FOR MARTHA'S VINEYARD VACATION
Natural Sound
America's First Family is on its way to the Massachusetts island of Martha's Vineyard for a vacation.
President Bill Clinton - along with wife Hillary and daughter Chelsea - will attempt to reclaim their private life which has become very public over the past 24 hours.
Their departure comes a day after Clinton's confession that he had an inappropriate relationship with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky.
The Clintons presented a picture of family unity on Tuesday.
Hand in hand, the president, his wife, and his daughter walked across the White House lawn and boarded the helicopter - Marine One.
Pointedly, the First Lady Hillary did not look at the camera, staring straight ahead or at Chelsea.
The President meanwhile appeared relaxed and busied himself with getting his dog Buddy on to the helicopter.
From there it was a quick flight to Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.
Chelsea gripped her father's hand and arm as they walked to the plane that would spirit them away from the tension in Washington.
With a jaunty wave to photographers, the president boarded Air Force One, settled down with an unlit cigar in his mouth, and Buddy at his feet.
One day after her husband acknowledged his link to the former White House intern, first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton released a statement.
Through a spokeswoman she said she is committed to her marriage and loves her husband.
There was no comment on Chelsea's feelings about her father's admission of an inappropriate relationship with an intern no much older than she is.
In their fourth trip to the Vineyard, the Clintons are again staying at the borrowed compound of a Boston developer.

Rose Abrahamson: Martha's Vineyard Artist
Rose Abrahamson says at my age, death and time are my friends. It could be a Samuel Beckett quote. But it's her's. It says a lot.
Rose lives in the time of a person struck by timelessness, the timelessness of an imagination in continuous motion. In such a life, it is possible, to paraphrase William Butler Yeats, to lose the dancer in the dance.
In Rose Abrahamson the labor of life, blossoming or dancing, is continuous. And, at 88 her interior life surfaces and recedes constantly. It blooms in conversation and recedes in memory. That surface and bloom is most available in her painting. Through the paintings she's done is a gateway, an aperture that lifts the spirit. It separates us from how's or why's of our perception and gets us to be in some half-symbolic state of being. With Rose this is a safe, fluid place of imagination, and there, for an instant is our own timelessness too. We become friends with it..
I don't know where my paintings come from. But the deeper I go the more people respond — more people relate — It's like my imagination is a collective imagination. Because I'm human... like everybody else.
Video of 38 Standish Road | Wayland, Massachusetts real estate & homes by Erin Munroe
-
This gorgeous, just-completed colonial at 38 Standish Road offers new construction in an estate-like setting in one of Wayland’s most sought-after neighborhoods.
Beautifully sited on a tranquil 3.8-acre lot abutting conservation land, the stunning new shingle style house shows the impeccable attention to detail that results when a highly regarded local architect, an interior designer with a longtime connection to the property, and an award-winning builder work together to bring every facet of the home to the highest level.
Offering 6,463 square feet of well-thought-out living space with five-bedrooms, four full baths and two half baths, the home’s expansive windows and multiple glass exterior doors flood the house with natural light and make the sublime woodland views a part of the interior design.
Timeless and elegant with high ceilings, hardwood floors and exquisite millwork in moldings and built-ins, the house has the clean lines, sophisticated style, and open floor plan desired by today’s home buyer.
Set back on a professionally landscaped lot with a circular driveway and a backdrop of mature trees, the house has charming curb appeal with a gambrel roof, elegant columns and a wraparound bluestone veranda that leads to a screened porch for outdoor entertaining.
Front to back views begin in the gracious entrance hall with sweeping sightlines through glass doors in the great room that open to a bluestone terrace.
Columns frame the doorway to the dining room which has a gas fireplace for cozy winter dinner parties and a stylish and well-equipped butler’s pantry that leads to the kitchen.
The spectacular heart-of-the-home, open-concept great room and kitchen offer superb space for entertaining inside and out. The focal point of this sun-drenched room is a beautifully crafted limestone fireplace that is flanked by glass doors to a magnificent screened porch which features a country fieldstone fireplace. Additional glass doors in the room provide access to a bluestone terrace for even more peaceful outdoor space.
Lovely double French doors open from the great room open to a tray-ceiling library with a wall of custom-built-ins. This room provides a quiet retreat that is also easily available to family.
The gourmet kitchen is a chef’s delight with high-end appliances by Sub-Zero, Wolf and Bosch, dazzling Carrera marble countertops and decorative backsplash, and a center island that includes breakfast bar seating. Family and friends will love the sunny dining area with double doors to the terrace for al fresco summer meals.
Beauty and function are highlighted in a dream mudroom that offers a walk-in pantry and access to the heated three-car garage as well as a staircase to the second floor.
The beautifully-crafted main staircase leads to a spacious landing and an entry to the master bedroom, a private sanctuary with glass doors to a balcony, and a spa-like bathroom.
Four additional spacious family bedrooms are on the second floor as well as a laundry room so nicely designed that it will make doing the wash fun.
This spacious home offers even more bonus space with two staircases to the lower level where there is a full bath, a playroom and a family room, as well as plenty of storage and future finish space for a wine cellar.
This special home offers the best in design and construction and an idyllic setting in Wayland, one of the most coveted towns in the Metro West suburbs.
Located just 18 miles west of Boston, Wayland is known for its public schools which are consistently rated among the top ten school systems in the state. Residents prize the semi-rural character of the town with its miles of scenic roads with stone walls, acres of protected conservation land that include trails for walking, horseback riding and cross-country skiing, and beautiful marshes and meadows along the Sudbury River. The town beach on Lake Cochituate, two public golf courses, playgrounds, an ice-skating pond, and athletic fields provide recreational opportunities for all ages. Close to shopping, entertainment, dining and commuter routes, Wayland is one of the area’s most desirable suburbs.

Jaws 1975: Out To the Ocean+Shark Hunt
Jaws, 1975 American film directed by Steven Spielberg and based on Peter Benchley's 1974 novel of the same name.
Police chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) with a marine biologist (Richard Dreyfuss) and a professional shark hunter (Robert Shaw). Murray Hamilton plays the mayor, and Lorraine Gary portrays Brody's wife.
Shot mostly on location on Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts, Jaws had a troubled production, going over budget and past schedule. As the art department's mechanical sharks often malfunctioned, Spielberg decided to mostly suggest the shark's presence, employing an ominous and minimalistic theme created by composer John Williams to indicate its impending appearances.
Spielberg and others have compared this suggestive approach to that of thriller director Alfred Hitchcock. Universal Pictures gave the film what was then an exceptionally wide release for a major studio picture, on over 450 screens, accompanied by an extensive marketing campaign with a heavy emphasis on television spots and tie-in merchandise.
It became the highest-grossing film of all time until the release of Star Wars in 1977.
Both films were pivotal in establishing the modern Hollywood business model, which revolves around high box-office returns from action and adventure pictures with simple high-concept premises released during the summer in thousands of theaters and heavily advertised.
It was followed by three sequels, all without Spielberg or Benchley, and many imitative thrillers. In 2001, it was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Film Registry, being deemed culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.
