Transformations on the Oklahoma River | Michael Knopp | TEDxUCO
The presentation details how the redevelopment of the Oklahoma River has not only transformed a vast urban landscape, but also has transformed lives and perceptions. The Oklahoma River is at the center of OKC’s outdoor and fitness culture infusion, while also providing unexpected national and global recognition as a vibrant, urban US Olympic-designated waterfront. The Oklahoma River is a differentiator for Oklahoma City, has become another symbol of the pioneering spirit of Oklahomans, and demonstrates the power of public-private partnership to accomplish transformational community initiatives.
Mike Knopp left his successful legal career in 2003 to establish the Oklahoma City University varsity rowing program and assume the position of executive director of the Oklahoma City Boathouse Foundation. As a graduate from Edmond Memorial High School, Mike went on to Oklahoma State University where he graduated with a BBA in economics in 1994. He then completed a Juris Doctorate from the University of Oklahoma in 1997. Mike currently serves on the boards of Leadership Oklahoma City, Last Frontier Council Executive Board Member of Boy Scouts of America, USA Canoe/Kayak, Bricktown Association, and Creativity Oklahoma. Mike also sits on the MAPS 3 citizen’s oversight committee for the Oklahoma River projects. Mike and his wife, Tempe, have established a home in northeast Oklahoma City.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at

Today We Remember April 19, 1995
Governor Mary Fallin and Mayor Mick Cornett joined this year's Remembrance Ceremony that was emceed by Memorial Foundation Chairman Gary Pierson. Similar to previous years, 168 seconds of silence were observed at 9:02 a.m., reflecting the moment the nation was changed forever. The ceremony began with a bagpipe procession of the ceremony participants, led by Pipe Sergeant Kevin M. Donnelly of the Drug Enforcement Administration's Black and Gold Pipes and Drums. The Edmond North High School Orchestra played from the Plaza overlooking the Outdoor Symbolic Memorial, and Charity Logan performed a special song just before the reading of the 168 names.
Roses were placed on each chair in the Field of Empty Chairs today to honor those who were lost special thanks to Teleflora and New Leaf Floral. Museum visitors were able to take a Survivor Tree seedling with them, thanks to the Oklahoma State Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry.
The Memorial Museum was free today thanks to Cox Community Day! Cox Community Day aims to ensure all are able to learn the lessons of the Oklahoma City bombing, and we encourage all to join us during this day of remembrance.

Gandini's Mysteriously Abandoned Circus
Gandini's Circus went on for some time between 1900 and 1930 touring across various states. What makes this site mysterious though is the lack of information on what happened to the circus. Did they quit? Disappear? Die? Get bought out? Lose some animals or main acts? No one truly knows but everyone has a their own theory. Even the time period in which they operated has been debated. Some people claim that some of the animals ran loose and that is why it closed while others claim that the animals ran loose after the people abandoned it. They actual facts surrounding the disappearance seem clouded yet many new rumors appear. The most popular story associated with the circus is that they held their last show here then just vanished. Many think that the place is haunted and claim to have seen restless souls wandering the area. I personally had trouble deciding if the circus operated here or if it just someone who collected a bunch of junk that happed on some old circus equipment. Either that or once the circus abandoned their equipment the area just became a dumping grounds for other people getting rid of their junk. Regardless it was still a great place to see and explore!

Woolaroc Museum & Wildlife Preserve - Bartlesville,Oklahoma
It was Robert's Birthday and he wanted to go somewhere special. We left home and headed west into Kansas then went south to Oklahoma. We ended up at the Woolaroc Museum & Wildlife Preserve in Bartlesville, Ok. It is a special place that was created by Frank Phillips back in the 1920's. Frank Phillips was also in the oil business. You might know it as Phillips 66!
The museum is sat on 3700 acre wildlife preserve that is home to buffalo, deer, and zebras and also boasts a petting zoo. The 50,000 sq ft museum houses an array of plains Indian artifacts as well as many early settlement artifacts. You will find everything from moccasins to airplanes in this wonderful museum.
If you are in the area please go check it out. We spent 5 hours in the museum alone and we still felt like we didn't see everything. Another trip is already planned for a return visit in April of 2019!!!
