Tour Japan - EDO - TOKYO Open Air Architectural Museum

The Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum (江戸東京たてもの園, Edo Tōkyō Tatemono-en) is an open air museum in the western suburbs of Tokyo, which exhibits a range of historic buildings from the Tokyo area. The buildings were relocated or reconstructed here in order to preserve a chapter of architectural history, which has been almost completely lost in fires, earthquakes, wars and city redevelopment.

Most of the buildings exhibited are from the Meiji Period (1868-1912) or more recent times, and include among others, a politician's elegant former residence, a farm house, a public bathhouse, various shops and a police box. The Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum is a branch museum of the superb Edo-Tokyo Museum in Tokyo's Ryogoku district.

Fantastic Places in Cool Japan :
“Edo-Tokyo Open-Air Architectural Museum” is an open-air museum in Koganei Park, Koganei City, Tokyo. Thirty historic buildings from the Edo period to the early Showa era are on display. It’s no wonder that there are many reviews that are more interesting than you might expect, with reality-filled exhibits being a popular tourist attraction. Photo can be taken in most buildings except some. There are many buildings that have become models of the work of “Studio Ghibli” (Japanese animation production company).
The main feature of the building in the Museum is that it faithfully reproduces the state of the time to the inside. In the store, dried bonito sold on shelves, cigarettes of brands that you can’t see now, are lined up, and a vacant lot with a clay pipe beside it.

Fascinating afternoon, though I wish I gave myself more time, and highly recommended if you're ever in Tokyo, particularly if you're a photographer. 【散歩編】①　August 2019 小金井市にある江戸東京たてもの園を散歩しました。園内はかなり広いので①と②の２つに分けてアップします。今回の①は園内でいうと「東ゾーン」の江戸から昭和の下町エリアを中心に歩いています。
朝９時半の開園すぐか、16時頃が人が少なくてお勧めです。

VLOG: Edo Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum

Period Rooms on a whole other level! I had so much fun at this architectural museum in Tokyo and learned a lot. Although this museum states the restored buildings are from the Edo period (1603-1868), a lot of the buildings were constructed later than 1868. If you're in Tokyo and want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city but still get your learning on, I'd advise you to check this place out!
