Beijing Day Trips - Badachu (八大处)
Get out of the concrete jungle and take a day trip out to Badachu. The name means Eight Great Sites and refers to a collection of Buddhist temples and nunneries located in Beijing's Western Hills.
My Trip to Badachu - Buddhist Temple
Badachu Gong Yuan (Park); Beijing, China
I haven't paid my respects at any of the popular buddhist temples around town b.c they are filled with tourists and scary buddhas (Yonghegon). I went with Qian to Badachu - farther west of the popular Fragrant Hills Park (XianShan Gong Yuan). We had to go to the Jishaitan Subway 2 Line stop, then take the 347 bus (very dilapidated) for 1 hour to reach this temple. Upon arrival - you have people clamoring to sell you incense, ask for money, read your facial fortune and etc.
There are 8 levels to climb - we reached the 6th today. You're supposed to pray/pay/give your respects when you climb to each new level where there's also a new type of buddha - but we didn't do that at every level. When I did pray and offer incense I thanked the universe for taking care of me, thanked my grandparents and mother for raising me, asked for help - in that I need help in being patient with those who are stupid or I don't like too much. And most importantly, I asked Buddha to take care of my grandmother. So no, I didn't ask for anything all world encompassing like stopping hunger or increasing the love.
Upon our way back - the 347 broke down at least 4 times - but everytime it started back up after some nasty nasty fumes. In my blog (triciawang.blogspot.com) you can view other still pictures from Badachu. There's some funny English translations and juxtapositions of games.

Chinese ring the bells for Year of the Rooster
Many travelled to Ba Dachu Park in west Beijing on Friday evening to welcome the New Year by ringing a bell that dates back to the Ming Dynasty. People still believe ringing these bells can help them stay alert and become wiser. So many visit temples during the New Year, hoping for better luck in the months to come.

21st June we drive to Mutianyue Great wall hike up to see the beautiful natural view of the landscape and afternoon visit Buddhist temple.
22nd June Morning Our guide Ms. Riu Jiao took us to Badachu Park at Lingguang Temple, we were very lucky to pay homage to the Buddha’s relic tooth as it is open for the public only a month of Sagadawa in a year. (After Buddha Sakyamuni passed away, the cremation left two tooth relics, one of which was brought to Ceylon by his disciples, with the other first brought to Uddiyana, and then to Yu Wen. In the middle of the 5th century, the prominent monk Fa Xian traveled here and took the tooth relic back to the capital of the Qi Dynasty, Jian Kang. After the Sui Dynasty was established, the tooth relic was sent to Chang'an and later was moved to the capital of the North Liao Dynasty (907-1125). Finally, it was preserved in the Zhao Xian Ta of Lingguang temple in l071.)
Afternoon we visit Tiananmen Square and Forbidden Temple.
23rd June Drive by reserved bus to Wutaishan town about 400 Km from Beijing. After lunch we went to central Wutai Peak to pay homage of Stone throne offered by the Serpents king to the Wensu, Jmbiyang and evening visit of Wensu Temple.
Next continue visit Wutaishan

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
Beijing (, nonstandard ;
Mandarin pronunciation: [pèi.tɕíŋ] (listen)), formerly romanized as Peking, is the capital of the People's Republic of China, the world's third most populous city proper, and most populous capital city. The city, located in northern China, is governed as a municipality under the direct administration of central government with 16 urban, suburban, and rural districts. Beijing Municipality is surrounded by Hebei Province with the exception of neighboring Tianjin Municipality to the southeast; together the three divisions form the Jingjinji metropolitan region and the national capital region of China.Beijing is an important world capital and global power city, and one of the world's leading centers for politics, economy and business, finance, education, culture, innovation and technology, architecture, language, and diplomacy. A megacity, Beijing is the second largest Chinese city by urban population after Shanghai and is the nation's political, cultural, and educational center. It is home to the headquarters of most of China's largest state-owned companies and houses the largest number of Fortune Global 500 companies in the world, as well as the world's four biggest financial institutions. It is also a major hub for the national highway, expressway, railway, and high-speed rail networks. The Beijing Capital International Airport has been the second busiest in the world by passenger traffic since 2010, and, as of 2016, the city's subway network is the busiest and second longest in the world.
Combining both modern and traditional architecture, Beijing is one of the oldest cities in the world, with a rich history dating back three millennia. As the last of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China, Beijing has been the political center of the country for most of the past eight centuries, and was the largest city in the world by population for much of the second millennium A.D. Encyclopædia Britannica notes that few cities in the world have served for so long as the political headquarters and cultural center of an area as immense as China. With mountains surrounding the inland city on three sides, in addition to the old inner and outer city walls, Beijing was strategically poised and developed to be the residence of the emperor and thus was the perfect location for the imperial capital. The city is renowned for its opulent palaces, temples, parks, gardens, tombs, walls ...
