Places to see in ( Hannover - Germany ) Eilenriede
The Eilenriede is a 640-hectare inner-city park located within Hannover, Germany. It is one of Europe's largest urban parks, and is also known locally as grüne Lunge meaning green lung. The connected forest area is one of the biggest inner-city forest areas in Europe.
In Germany, the Eilenriede park is part of a group of inner-city or city near forest areas, like the Rostock Heath (6000 ha), the Dresden Heath (5900 ha), the Frankfurter Stadtwald (4800 ha) or the Berliner Grunewald (3000 ha). The Eilenriede is around the same size as the Stadtwald in Duisburg (600 ha) and is twice as big as Central Park (340 ha) in New York.
The park's name Eilenriede is translated in English as alder moor, describing the park as a marsh populated with alder trees. Eilenriede encloses the south of the city from the northeast, east and southeast in form of the mirror-inverted letter C with a north-south extension of about 6 km. It reaches in the south west up to the Maschsee. The entire area is covered by an 130 kilometres (81 mi) long road network (80 km hiking, 38 km Bicycle, 11 km Riding).

Places to see in ( Hannover - Germany )
Hanover is the capital city of the German state of Lower Saxony. It's known for trade fairs like the annual CeBIT tech expo. The red-brick Gothic Market Church and the Old Town Hall stand among half-timbered houses in the rebuilt old town. The ornate New Town Hall has views from its dome and 4 different scale models of the city through the ages. The 17th-century Herrenhäuser Gardens are just outside the city center.
Hannover on the River Leine, is the capital and largest city of the German state of Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen), and was once by personal union the family seat of the Hanoverian Kings of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, under their title as the dukes of Brunswick-Lüneburg (later described as the Elector of Hanover). At the end of the Napoleonic Wars, the Electorate was enlarged to become a Kingdom with Hanover as its capital. From 1868 to 1946 Hanover was the capital of the Prussian Province of Hanover and afterwards of the Hanover administrative region until that was abolished in 2005. It is now the capital of the Land of Lower Saxony. Since 2001 it has been part of the Hanover district (Region Hannover), which is a municipal body made up from the former district (Landkreis Hannover) and city of Hanover (note: although both Region and Landkreis are translated as district they are not the same).
Hanover also hosts annual commercial trade fairs such as the Hanover Fair and the CeBIT. Every year Hanover hosts the Schützenfest Hannover, the world's largest marksmen's festival, and the Oktoberfest Hannover, the second largest such festival in Germany. In 2000, Hanover hosted the world fair Expo 2000. The Hanover fairground, due to numerous extensions, especially for the Expo 2000, is the largest in the world. Hanover is of national importance because of its universities and medical school, its international airport and its large zoo. The city is also a major crossing point of railway lines and highways (Autobahnen), connecting European main lines in both the east-west (Berlin–Ruhr area) and north-south (Hamburg–Munich, etc.) directions.
The city's central station, Hannover Hauptbahnhof, is a hub of the German high-speed ICE network. It is the starting point of the Hanover-Würzburg high-speed rail line and also the central hub for the Hanover S-Bahn. Hanover and its area is served by Hanover/Langenhagen International Airport. Hanover is also an important hub of Germany's Autobahn network; the junction of two major autobahns, the A2 and A7 is at Kreuz Hannover-Ost, at the northeastern edge of the city.

The ornate New Town Hall has views from its dome and 4 different scale models of the city through the ages. The 17th-century Herrenhäuser Gardens are just outside the city center.
Hanover is not a typical European city. Don't expect to see beautiful centuries-old buildings; this city was one of the hardest hit during World War II, leaving it with only a few historical landmarks. Even the Old City (Altstadt) area is new, all the old houses left standing after the war (around 40) were taken from throughout the city and deposited here. This area is surrounded by grey 1950's buildings that give a somewhat heavy atmosphere to the streets. However, there still are several residential neighborhoods consisting of late-19th-century housing stock with often elaborate historicist (Victorian) and Jugendstil (Art Noveau) decorations just outside the downtown area, such as Oststadt, List or Linden.
Hanover has large green areas, with forests and big parks. The landscape is mostly flat, with the river Leine going through the city. The lake Masch (Maschsee) is rather spectacular, considering its size as a man-made object.
The city had a special relationship to the late French artist Niki de Saint-Phalle. She had several of her works in public spots in Hanover (i.e., the Nanas, the Cave in the Great Garden) and also in the Sprengel Museum. To honor her contribution to Hanover, she was granted an honorary citizenship from the city government. Moreover, the recently renovated underground shopping passageway from the central station to Kröpcke was named The Niki de Saint-Phalle Promenade. Hanover's public services are excellent, due to major reconstruction for the World EXPO 2000. The shopping area under the train station was renovated in 2005-2006 in preparation for the World Cup.
Kröpcke is a large pedestrian area in the heart of Hanover. It is Hanover's major shopping spot, home to the Opera house and has lots of places to eat. The main station in the Hanover Stadtbahn network, is also located here. All Stadtbahn lines except the 10 and 17, call at the station and it is the main interchange point for the network. It has six platforms in total on three lines that cross each other in independent tunnels. There is a big green clock in Kröpcke (KröpckeUhr) which makes an ideal meeting point.
Hanover has a fantastic network of public transportation, so it's best to just park your car and ride. If you plan to make more than than two trips by tram, bus, or subway, a day ticket is your best bet, buying you unlimited travel on the public transport system. Day tickets are valid until the last connection of the day (which normally ends sometime after midnight). The public transportation adopts an honor system for tickets, but they do have ticket inspections once in a while (also late at nights and early mornings). The fine is quite high, so make sure you have a ticket all the time. Be aware that some tickets will need to be validated (stamped on the 'blue box'), and some not, depending on the machine.

Places to see in ( Hannover - Germany ) Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen
Places to see in ( Hannover - Germany ) Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen
The Herrenhausen Gardens of Herrenhausen Palace, located in Herrenhausen, an urban district of Lower Saxony's capital of Hanover are made up of the Great Garden, the Berggarten, the Georgengarten and the Welfengarten. The gardens are a heritage of the Kings of Hanover.
The Great Garden has always been one of the most distinguished baroque formal gardens of Europe while the Berggarten has been transformed over the years from a simple vegetable garden into a large botanical garden with its own attractions. Both the Georgengarten and the Welfengarten have been made in the style of English gardens, and both are considered popular recreation areas for the residents of Hanover. The history of the gardens spans several centuries, and they remain a popular attraction to this day.
The Great Garden owes much of its aesthetics to Sophia of Hanover, consort of the Elector of Hanover and herself heiress to the British throne, who in 1683 commissioned the French gardener Martin Charbonnier to enlarge an existing garden. It served as a summer retreat, located only a few kilometers outside the city, while the Leineschloss was the main residence in town. As its name implies, it indeed became a large garden, comprising 50 hectares of lawns, hedges, walkways, and statues arranged in strict geometrical patterns.
Every summer, the Great Garden plays host a large variety of festivals. The Festival of Small Arts (Kleinkunstfestival) takes place over several days and offers a wide range of artistic displays, and the Small Festival in the Great Garden (Kleines Fest im Großen Garten) has become firmly entrenched as a highlight of the Festival Week Herrenhausen (Festwochen Herrenhausen). Lastly, the garden is the site of an international fireworks competition which evolved from a local attraction.
The State Stage of Hanover (Landesbühne Hannover) uses the Garden Theatre of the Great Garden during the summer for both musicals and other theatrical performances. Similarly, the building that houses the garden's orangery is utilized for both art exhibits and performances of classical music; matinee performances are presented in the foyer. The focal point of the garden is the Great Fountain which can, with optimal weather conditions, reach a maximum height of 80 meters. The original fountain was based on ideas of Gottfried Leibniz and was inaugurated in 1719 during the visit of George I. In 1721, it reached a height of some 35 m which made it the highest fountain in European courts. The fountain and its pumping works were renewed in 1860.
The Great Garden is also the site of one of the last works of the artist Niki de Saint Phalle. She modified the three-roomed grotto in the northwestern section of the garden, which had served as a store room in the eighteenth century, by adding various items, including crystals, minerals, glass and seashells. Between 2001 and 2003, when the exhibit opened, de Saint Phalle and her coworkers covered the walls and interior with mosaics of molded glass and mirrors. Two rooms branch off from the octagon-shaped central room, and on the front wall of each of them is a statue set within a small recession in the wall. De Saint Phalle's intention for this exhibit was that the visitors could use the grotto as a cool retreat on hot summer days while at the same time being enchanted by the decorations.
