Ein Gedi is an oasis and a nature reserve in Israel, located west of the Dead Sea, near Masada and the Qumran Caves.

Zahi Shaked A tour guide in Israel and his camera zahigo25@walla.com +972-54-6905522 tel סיור עם מורה הדרך ומדריך הטיולים צחי שקד 0546905522
My name is Zahi Shaked
In 2000 I became a registered liscenced tourist guide.
My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.
Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this calling in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, glide over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and see the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.
Nature of Israel: Wetlands
Wetlands in the land of Israel (both Jewish state and Palestinian autonomy) have suffered a great decline in the 20th century.
Most of the fresh water in Israel is concentrated in a 1/5 of its' territory, in the northern part. Of these waters, some are piped and pumped for human use, while the rest is usually polluted with sewage.
Most of the marshland has been dried in the war against malaria. This has resulted in peat-fires of the dry soil and in the extinction of several endemic species.
Now-a-days, we love and protect our few remaining wetlands.
Descriptions by picture:
1 -(title pic) The Hulah Nature Reserve - biggest wetland in modern Israel. A fraction of Lake Hulah, which was dried in the 50's in order to clear land for griculture.

MASADA FORTRESS. judean desert, israel
Getting there is very easy: you can catch a bus at Jerusalem Bus Station. Masada is 21 km south of Ein Gedi Natural Reserve by Rte. 90.
Masada was built by King Herod. By the year 70 AD, after the Romans conquered Jerusalem, thousand Jews run to Masada as a desperate last stop. On 72 AD as the Roman's Empire 10th Legion was about to catch them uphill (after years of battles), the defenders prefered suicide than enslavement. When the roman soldiers got there on the top they found silence.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

MAJRASE STREAM - ISRAEL
The Majrase and Zaki Nature Reserve
encompasses an area of approximately 7,000 dunams (1,750 acres) (including agricultural areas), making it Israel's largest reserve of fresh water landscapes.
The Bethsaida Valley, northeast of the Sea of Galilee, features a variety of waterscapes. It is the only place in Israel where natural wetlands have been preserved almost undisturbed. There are year-round streams of water, as well as seasonal streams, pools, springs, areas seasonally flooded by the Sea of Galilee and the delta of the Jordan river.
The Bethsaida Valley is also home to a rich array of flora and fauna. Its lagoons, where a tangle of greenery flourishes, are an important habitat for Sea of Galilee fish during egg-laying season, especially mango tilapia. Thus this reserve makes an important contribution to the ecology of the lake.
