Our experience in Ein Hod is one that revolves around the warmth and hospitality of its artistic community. Here people are open about what they like to do, their life's work. Whether the medium is conveyed on canvas or through fermentation does little to dampen everyone's enthusiasm to share their art with anyone from a bus load of teens to shoppers from across the net and therefore the world. Even the mountain air, the view, the settlement's history, and proximity to the beach seem to be seen as worth sharing here as shown by the gracious hospitality we received. Here everyone has a story, and perhaps for the simple reason that in Ein Hod emotion and personality are so commonly expressed through mediums beyond simple speech, we feel drawn close to this place and its people.

Although the big city of Haifa is only a 15 minute drive away, the art community of Ein Hod feels worlds away in its seclusion, serenity and overall aura. When our group first arrived, we were shown around various galleries and introduced to the artists that displayed them. It was clear to us already that Ein Hod was a unique place where all kinds of art was not only welcomed, but celebrated. What appealed to me especially was the way every artist's house acts as a studio for them to work and a gallery to display it in. Upon leaving Ein Hod, I thought to myself how great it would be to stay for a long while or possibly even live in this incredible artistic oasis.

My first impression of Ein Hod was rain. To most people, this would imply dreary discomfort. It seemed, however, that the village not only was undisturbed by the rain, but in fact embraced it. The energy of Ein Hod lends itself to any sort of weather, being alternately cheerful, melancholy, intense, or any number of other emotions. The art you see everywhere you turn is inspiring, the people welcoming, and the atmosphere intoxicating. Between pottery, silk screening, sculptures, paintings and (of course) good food, I have felt Ein Hod capture my senses and my heart.

Asel's Death -Israel Channel 2 Report (03-2)
Asel Asleh was a young intelligent, warm and good natured peace activist that grew up in light of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Born on May 6, 1983 in Haifa, Asel was fortunate to live and grow up in his ancestry's village, the village of Arrabeh in the Lower Galilee. Asel attended a school in Haifa called 'Al Karmel School' and later moved to Arraba's Jeem Elementary School. After elementary school, Asel moved to what became his favorite school, 'Mar Elias College' in Ibillin village, a village also in Lower Galilee.
One of his writings expressed the urge to enjoy life, as if he always knew his life will be short. He wrote: ...enjoy living in this life as long as you are still breathing, after all you live only once; and be someone, and not just anyone. It was people like him that the area needed to build the new region of peace. He had a whole future ahead of him to make a difference in the region, but his future and dreams were tragically ended when he was murdered and killed by Israeli police on October 2, 2000. His 1000-watt smile was turned off forever.

Artists' village into the wildfire
Pastoral artists' village Ein Hod, which is located near Haifa, was caught into the wildfire that has been raging at the Carmel forest in Israel since Thursday. Though it seemed for a little while that the village was about to survive the flames, a sudden chance of winds left no chance for the northern part of the village. Ein hod is the only artist village in Israel and is one of the few in the world. It is the home of many famous galleries and museums. The galleries have not been damaged, though several houses in the north part of the village have. Israelis in general and residents in particular are devastated by the impact of the fire on their beloved village. Respectful artists such as 94 year old ursola malbin refused to be evacuated and they had to be taken away forcefully.

Ilana Goor Interview at the Ilana Goor Museum Featuring Israeli Contemporary Artists, Jaffa Israel
Go here:
Ilana Goor is an individualistic, autodidactic, intuitive and multifaceted artist. As an artist who knows no boundaries and whose art transcends any conventions, her creations are a blend of vitality and obsession, functional simplicity alongside expressive complexity bordering on surrealism. Her sources of inspiration are neither time nor place-dependent. They create a personal statement, a journey replete with meaning and they succeed in touching and moving people the world over.
Goor was born in Tiberias to an educated and distinguished family of highly respected doctors and artists. She never studied art or design in any formal setting. She developed her artistic techniques on her own from an early age, when she used various parts to create small statues. She is considered to be an international multidisciplinary artist. Her works encompass sculptures, furniture, judaica, lighting fixtures, jewelry and fashion items which are displayed in well known galleries worldwide and are distinguished by their powerful, dominant presence.
She first came to the United States in her 20s and captured the hearts of the locals with her large-buckle belts for men which paved her artistic path in North America. As a result, Goor has been able to launch her impressive talents and has dedicated her main efforts to industry. Goor's first one-woman exhibition was held in 1972 at the California Museum of Science and Industry in Los Angeles. Since then, her works of art have been exhibited in numerous museums both in Israel and abroad, e.g. the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the Museum of 20th Century Art in Vienna, and more.
One of the high points in Goor's career in the field of design was in 1986 when she won the prestigious Peres Roscoe Design prize. Her signature, which is identified in all her work can also be seen in a number of locations in Israel, such as the moving sculpture Never Again which is on display at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem and the Woman in the Wind sculpture that is close to the Charles Clore park in Tel Aviv.
