[Wikipedia] El Chico National Park
El Chico National Park is a protected area in the State of Hidalgo, Mexico. It is one of the oldest protected areas in Mexico, as its foundation dates to 1898 when the then president of the republic, General Porfirio Díaz, by decree, created Monte Vedado del Mineral del Chico. Since this date, the ancient conifer forests have been protected from the deforestation suffered in other parts of the country. Another decree followed in 1915 and still another by Presidential Agreement on 13 September 1922, which declared Monte Vedado to be cataloged as a forest reservation.
The park has an extensive and varied ecosystem typical of the region. It contains large forests of conifers, several species of animals of which many are endemic to the region, and numerous rocky outcropings, small valleys, lagoons and rivers. The park attracts visitors with climbing, hiking, and camping.

El Chico is extraordinary because it is perfect for both adrenaline rushes as well as contemplation of nature's beauty.

El Parque Nacional El Chico ubicado en el Estado de Hidalgo, este parque es uno de los más antiguos que hay en México, pues su fundación a saber data desde el periodo que se conoce como el Porfiriato, donde hacia el año de 1898 el entonces presidente de le república, el General Porfirio Díaz por decreto indica la protección de esta área bajo el nombre de Monte Vedado del Mineral del Chico1.
Desde esa fecha se ha buscado la protección de sus hermosos y antiguos bosques de coníferas de la tala y la deforestación que han padecido otras zonas boscosas del país, incluso por tal motivo que llegó a amenazarle, hubo un decreto en el año de 1915 para cumplir tal fin y otro más por Acuerdo Presidencial el 13 de septiembre de 1922, mediante decreto que declaró que al terreno llamado Monte Vedado (en ese entonces) se le catalogara como reserva forestal de la nación.
Este parque es uno de los mejores cuidados y más hermosos de la república, y abarca dentro de su extensión un ecosistema variado y propio de la región. Grandes bosques de coníferas entre cuyas especies hay algunas que son originarias del país, así como varias especies de animales de las cuales muchas son endémicas de la región, y numerosas formaciones rocosas de siluetas caprichosas, incluyendo también pequeños valles, lagunas y ríos de aguas cristalinas. Es muy visitado ya que cuenta con instalaciones donde se pueden practicar deportes como la escalada, senderismo, campismo (por mencionar algunos) o simplemente la contemplación de sus bellos paisajes.

El Cedral Hidalgo Mexico | 360 Video
During my recent trip to Mexico City, my friend Eduardo and his Fiance Martha took my fiance Fabiola and myself to a place called El Cedral in Hidalgo Mexico for the day. On our way there we met up with Eduardo's cousin Geidy, and we had a blast while we were there. We spent the day flying across ziplines, paddling row boats, and overall just enjoying the weather, and beautiful scenery the region had to offer. El Cedral is awesome, and definitely recommended if you ever find yourself in the area. The web page for the park has this to say about El Cedral:

The Recreational Park and El Cedral Dam is located in the community of Estanzuela in Mineral del Chico Hidalgo. It is one of the oldest parks in Mexico, very preferred by tourism in Hidalgo is impressive the great forests of pine, oyamel and oak, now is a tourist center that provides all the amenities to make a weekend unforgettable.
In El Cedral Recreation Park you can do many activities, including rock climbing in many rock formations with heights ranging from 2,230 to 3,100 meters above sea level, cycling, rappelling, camping, hiking and sport fishing.
The El Cedral dam is in a basin covered with cedar forests with paths to cross the hills, either on foot or on horseback tours, which are available to visitors.
The atmosphere is extraordinary and the landscapes that are enjoyed are unique, due to the composition of skies, clouds and trees that are reflected in the surface of the dam's waters.
Among the animals that inhabit the forest are: gray fox, cacomistle (ring tailed cat), opossums, armadillos, hawks, eagles, woodpeckers, salamanders, mountain chameleons and rattlesnake.
The park also lends itself to the investigation of flora and fauna, since its natural environment is huge, ideal for all kinds of studies, related to nature.
And for lovers of the mountain we have magnificent rocks for rappelling, rock climbing and mountaineering.
