El Golfo, with its Green Lagoon and town full of restaurants and bars is one of the most beautiful tourist sites on this island in the Canaries. We take the walk from the centre to the colourful volcano and bright green lake (also known as the green lagoon, or El Lago Verde.)
El Golfo is a small town on the western side of Lanzarote, and is right on the edge of the
Timanfaya National Park (Parque Nacional de Timanfaya.) It's an easy day trip from Playa Blanca, and is a beautiful place to have lunch with the rolling ocean by your side. There is plenty of free parking at both ends of the town. The car park at the far end of town is just at the start of a coastal hiking area (Wanderweg El Golfo.)
Starting on Av. Marítima by the cacti garden, with the sounds of the wide North Atlantic waves rolling onto the beach, we explore the town of El Golfo.
There are a number of well known restaurants along the main strip / seafront: Lago Verde, La Gamba Loca, Casa Torano, Restaurante Bogavante and Restaurant Costa Azul. Further back you'll find the hotel, El Hotelito del Golfo, and more restaurants: Casa Rafa Restaurante De Mar, Restaurante La Lapa and Restaurante El Golfo right by the main car park and path to the green lagoon (El Lago Verde.)

El Golfo is a small fishing village on the west coast of Lanzarote (Spain). El Golfo is famous for the fact that on the south side of the waterfront there is a crater of the same name, forming the deep green lake Charco de los Clicos (or Laguna Verde). This lake is one of the main tourist attractions of the island of Lanzarote and attracts tourists, and photographers.
Very often the lake is called El Golfo, although it is actually the name of a nearby village. Lake Charco de los Clicos is situated between the black, steep cliff and the black beach.
The water in the lake Charco de los Clicos (about 9m deep) is of oceanic origin and is very salty due to strong evaporation.
The unique green color of the lake is due to phytoplankton and the minerals that are in it.
Over the years, the volcano was partially absorbed by the Atlantic Ocean, while the eastern part of the crater, on the island's side, remained intact.
Unfortunately, the fate of the Charco de los Clicos lake is uncertain. Due to the large evaporation of water, it is getting smaller every year. Over the past twenty years, its surface has decreased by almost half, but it still has a depth of about 9m and is pleasing to the eyes of tourists.

El Golfo to mała wioska rybacka położona na zachodnim wybrzeżu Lanzarote (Hiszpania). Wioska El Golfo słynie z tego, iż przy nabrzeżu od południowej strony, leży krater o takiej samej nazwie, we wnętrzu którego uformowało się głębokie zielone jezioro Charco de los Clicos (lub Laguna Verde). Jezioro to jest jedną z głównych atrakcji turystycznych wyspy Lanzarote i przyciąga turystów, i fotografów.
Bardzo często jezioro nazywane jest El Golfo, choć właściwie to nazwa pobliskiej wioski. Jezioro Charco de los Clicos położone jest pomiędzy czarnym, stromym klifem a czarną plażą.
Woda w jeziorku Charco de los Clicos ( ok. 9m głębokości) jest pochodzenia oceanicznego i jest bardzo mocno zasolona, z powodu silnego parowania.
Unikalny zielony kolor jeziora spowodowany jest fitoplanktonem i minerałami, które się w nim znajdują.
Na przestrzeni lat, wulkan został częściowo wchłonięty przez Ocean Atlantycki, zaś wschodnia cześć krateru, od strony wyspy, pozostała jednak nienaruszona.
Niestety, dalsze losy jeziora Charco de los Clicos są niepewne. Z powodu bardzo dużego odparowywania wody, z roku na rok jest ono coraz mniejsze. W ciągu ostatnich dwudziestu lat jego powierzchnia zmniejszyła się prawie o połowę, lecz nadal ma ono około głębokość 9m i cieszy oczy turystów.
W pobliżu jeziora znajduje się bezpłatny parking i restauracja./

Südlich des ehemaligen Fischerdörfchens El Golfo befindet sich eine der bekanntesten Sehenswürdigkeiten der Insel Lanzarote. Es ist der teilweise im Meer versunkene Krater des Vulkans Montaña de Golfo, in dem sich eine Lagune gebildet hat, die etwa 50 Meter von der Küste entfernt liegt. Die markante grüne Farbe der Lagune entsteht durch einzellige Algen, die sich dem hohen Salzgehalt des Sees angepasst haben. Durch unterirdische Verbindungen zum Meer strömt Meerwasser in die Lagune nach und sorgt für ständigen Ausgleich. Dieses Gleichgewicht der Natur ist seit einigen Jahren aus unbekannten Gründen gestört. Die inzwischen abgesperrte grüne Lagune verdunstet immer mehr und besitzt heute nur noch einen Bruchteil ihrer ursprünglichen Größe. Der Name des Kratersees, Charco de los Clicos, stammt von einer essbaren Art Meeresfrüchten, den Clicos, die früher gehäuft an diesem Ort vorkamen.
Der Vulkankrater ist ein seltenes Beispiel des Hydrovulkanismus, der meistens an der Küste vorkommt. Beim Zusammentreffen von Magma und Wasser entsteht durch eine phreatomagmatische Explosion ein Tuffring wie er hier zu sehen ist. Besonders gut zu sehen ist der Krater von dem auf der Südseite des Dorfes befindlichen Aussichtsplateau. Das offene Halbrund des Kraters bildet zugleich eine zum Meer hin offene Bucht mit schwarzem Lavasand in dem man Olivin findet, ein aus dem Erdmantel stammendes Mineral, aus dem auch Schmucksteine hergestellt werden.

Two amazing places to visit at Lanzarote coast line.
EL GOLFO (YAIZA) - LANZAROTE
Por unos momentos vamos a sentir y respirar la magia de Lanzarote, la isla más septentrional y oriental del archipiélago canario. Aquí no vamos a mostrar paisajes marismeños ni de exuberante vegetación con alegres riachuelos, veremos un paisaje totalmente distinto, fruto de la geomorfología y de la viva geofísica de la isla.
Dentro del impresionante turismo de Lanzarote, con un benigno clima, casi tropical, no podemos dejar de visitar El Golfo, todo un espectáculo para los sentidos. Para ello, tenemos que dirigirnos al suroeste de la isla, al término municipal de Yaiza, al borde del Parque Natural de los Volcanes, paisaje volcánico que rodea al Parque Nacional de Timanfaya.
Partimos observando un suelo negruzco, fruto de las erupciones volcánicas que tuvieron lugar en Timanfaya entre 1730 y 1736. Esa oscuridad se ve contrastada con el blanco típico de los caseríos lanzaroteños; con los tonos azules de las aguas atlánticas de sus costas y con un celeste cielo que cierra la impactante gama cromática cargada de bellos contrastes.
Hacemos un recorrido, suave y relajado, a pesar del fuerte viento, y en él podemos apreciar el pintoresco y blanquecino pueblecito de pescadores, muy turístico, así como la línea costera cercana, y en ella, una pequeña bahía que es conocida como El Golfo, que a su vez da nombre a la cercana laguna verde ubicada en el interior de un semi-cráter, y a su vez al poblado de pescadores antes descrito.
Podemos observar el paisaje montañoso volcánico, de tonos negruzcos, de esta zona, donde prácticamente la montaña se une con el mar. Es precisamente una de ellas, la montaña de El Golfo, la que genera un paisaje espectacular. Esta montaña, en sí misma, es la mitad del cráter de un volcán formado por las erupciones volcánicas antes mencionadas. Se alza como un graderío abierto al mar donde se sitúa en su interior una exótica laguna verde.
Este volcán ha sufrido una fuerte acción erosiva del mar, destruyendo la montaña en buena parte, seccionándola casi por la mitad. El resultado de este proceso ha sido la creación de una pequeña bahía natural, y en ella, la Laguna Verde, separada del mar por una banda de arena volcánica.
Uno de los principales reclamos turísticos de la isla es este Lago Verde, también conocido como Lago de los Clicos, llamado así por unos mariscos comestibles pequeños (clicos), ya extintos “gracias” a dos tortugas soltadas en las apresadas aguas de la laguna.
Las coladas de Timanfaya contribuyeron a la formación de este lago, un escaso y raro ejemplo de hidrovulcanismo, una actividad de origen volcánica que sucede a niveles de poca altitud. El agua, que es filtrada desde el mar, es de color verde debido a la gran concentración de organismos vegetales en suspensión (fitoplacton) y tiene varios metros de profundidad por unos cien metros de largo.
Como comentamos anteriormente, el fuete viento reinante nos impidió el poder ver más detenidamente esta laguna verde, aunque sí podemos identificarla en la lejanía, como también identificamos la pequeña bahía, una playa de arena o piedra pequeña negra volcánica que posee unos 600 m de longitud por una anchura media de unos 10 m. No se recomienda el baño en esta playa debido al oleaje que provoca el fuerte viento que casi siempre reina.
El contraste del verde de la laguna con el negro del paisaje es bellísimo, haciendo de este sitio un lugar único y espectacular. Y siguiendo con los contrastes, la belleza cromática se realza aún más con el blanco reluciente del caserío de El Golfo.
El Golfo es un pueblecito rodeado de lava y mar, un pequeño pueblo pesquero que se resiste a abandonar el arte de la pesca. Como casi todos los de la isla, está formado por casas bajas y blancas que discurren a lo largo de la zona de costa. En él se respira tranquilidad y sosiego, paseando por la Avenida El Golfo y degustando el variado pescado fresco de sus aguas en cualquiera de los muchos restaurantes que acogen a multitud de turistas.
Como podemos comprobar, Lanzarote nunca defrauda.

Większą część jej powierzchni pokrywa zastygła lawa, nad którą góruje ponad 300 wulkanicznych stożków. Jedną z największych atrakcji turystycznych wyspy jest Park Narodowy Timanfaya założony na terenach objętych erupcjami wulkanów w latach 1730-1736.
