Exploring El Morro National Monument | New Mexico
In the summer of 2019, my daughter and I visited El Morro National Monument in New Mexico. The site preserves ancestral Puebloans, over 2,000 inscriptions carved by Spanish and American travelers and a famous well that supplied water to inhabitants and travels for centuries.

El Morro, NM - Wolf Sanctuary & El Morro National Monument
Just when everything seemed to be going wrong, it got better.
Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary:
Ancient Way Cafe, El Morro:
This morning we leave Chimayo with our sights set on Flagstaff, Arizona. It's an incredibly windy day and the straps that hold down the roof top tent cover blow loose several times and we have to stop to fasten them back. We make it to Gallup, New Mexico, stop for gasoline and re-evaluate the trip. The weather forecast calls for continued strong winds all the way to, and also in Flagstaff. We change our plans and head for the El Morro National Monument campground. It's 55 miles away and we can make it there in time to set up and cook supper before dark.
The campground at the National Monument is full so we go a few miles further down the road and discover an RV Park/cafe combo in the small town of El Morro. The folks there are incredibly nice and accommodating. Supper at the Ancient Way Cafe is amazing. Just when everything seemed to be going wrong we come across wonderful people and places. The next day we visit the nearby Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary (in Ramah, NM) and hike the short Inscription Trail at El Morrow National Monument.
Our sincere thanks to the kind and hard-working folks at the Ancient Way Cafe / El Morro RV Park!
Thank you for watching.

While visiting El Morro National Monument make sure you put on some sturdy shoes and take the 2 mile loop hike past the oasis, Inscription Rock and follow the Headland Trail up a 250 foot elevation gain to the top of the bluff, where you find an Ancestral Puebloan ruins. The view and the awesome colored sandstone with its carved out steps, makes you feel like you are stepping back in time.

We are Anja and Bob and we have been together for 28 years, we both have been born with the Wanderlust Gene and can't get enough of wandering and exploring this beautiful world. We have lived in California, New Mexico, Colorado and Hawaii, but have wandered many states and countries. We are Full-Time RV-ers and travel and work camp in a 2010, Winnebago View 24A Diesel Sprinter. We like to bring our 2012 Jeep Wrangler unlimited with us to explore where the RV can't go. We are not retired yet so we have to work on the road, we work camp at National parks, Forest Service and State parks and design some t-shirts and stickers and make some jewelry that are inspired by our travels. We will be selling those on our new website soon. We enjoy boon docking in nature or dry camping off grid along the ocean, in deserts and in the mountains. Our other passion is searching for treasures, one of those is a real Treasure Chest hidden by a fascinating gentleman named Forrest Fenn. We have been searching since 2013 and have filmed a few of our searches for you, so you can come along for the Thrill Of The Chase. Lets go to El Morro National Monument
Hello all!
I felt like going on a hike so we decided to go to El Morro National monument. It is located a few miles from Ramah, NM and has a hiking trail that leads up to the top. Known for a waterhole that is located on the base of the sandstone. There are a few carvings in the sandstone left by both ancestral tribes and Spanish and American travelers. There is a pueblo ruin located at the very top so that was fun to see. If you enjoy hiking and history this is a fun spot to visit. The trail is super easy so it is safe for kids and pets.

Stagecoach Cafe in Ramah, NM, USA. We slept under the stars in the middle of nowhere. Time for breakfast, but where? Well, in Ramah... and the only place we saw for miles and miles, either side of it - the Stagecoach Cafe! Delicious meal, and great service. Very friendly people and they even showed us some of the big game they have hunted or photgraphed recently. Bears, Elk and even mountain lions. This is in Cibola County in New Mexico. A lovely state!

Here was one review on how great this restaurant is - I haven't been there for a few years but I miss it terribly! This place has wonderful food and wonderful people. The owners even let me use their truck to charge my car battery! Source -

WEBISODE | El Morro: Inscription Rock | New Mexico PBS
- Forty miles outside of Grants New Mexico resides a massive sandstone bluff, with a watering hole, at what is called El Morro National Monument. This rock tells many stories in an unusual manner...through inscriptions and petroglyphs. Although the Anasazi were the first to leave their mark, Don Juan de Onate, in the 17th century, on his way back from what is now the Gulf of California, was the first to inscribe the rock. This tradition continued with the pioneers and railroad survey crews through the early 19th century. El Morro is open to the public year round.
El Morro National Monument Timelapse in New Mexico
From a main east-west trail, dating from antiquity, rises the great sandstone promontory of El Morro. Over the centuries, those who traveled this trail stopped to camp at the shaded oasis beneath these cliffs. They left the carved evidence of their passing -- symbols, names, dates, and fragments of their stories that register the cultures and history intermingled on the rock
