El Rastro, el mejor mercado de Madrid
El Rastro de Madrid es un mercado al aire libre que se monta todas las mañanas de domingos y festivos en el centro histórico de la capital de España. Con más de 3500 puestos oficiales se convierte en el mercado, sin comida, más grande de Europa al aire libre. Una visita obligada para los que queráis disfrutar de un domingo diferente.

Es el mercado al aire libre más grande de España, cuenta con más de dos siglos de historia y dicen que si buscas algo y no lo encuentras aquí, es que no existe. Es El Rastro, un clásico madrileño que debe su nombre al rastro de sangre de las reses sacrificadas de camino al matadero y que atrae cada domingo a unos 100.000 visitantes de todo el mundo.
Antes de las 8 de la mañana, la hora permitida para empezar a montar, los vendedores descargan en silencio sus pequeños tesoros. Son 1.200 puestos muchas veces familiares y heredados de generación en generación. Entre ellos descubrimos al anticuario más antiguo de este mercado, al pie del cañón a sus 92 años, o historias tan exóticas y lejanas como la de Kamal, que siguió la tradición de su padre, un auténtico indio con turbante, el primer perfumista de El Rastro y el impulsor de la construcción de la primera mezquita en España allá por los años 80.
Junto a ellos, los negocios que surgieron a su alrededor, desde la mítica taberna de caracoles que lleva como nadie Amadeo, pasando por el bar Santurce, famoso por sus sardinas y pimientos de padrón, o la churrería de la calle Santa Ana, que suma ya cinco generaciones alegrando el despertar a vendedores y vecinos como Maruja, residente en una típica corrala, o Carmen, enamorada de las vistas de su piso a la Plaza de Cascorro.
Es una de las plazas indispensables en nuestra visita, un recorrido plagado de ropa de segunda mano, baratijas, auténticas joyas, piezas de coleccionista, curiosidades, antiguos uniformes militares y gangas tan increíbles como un abrigo de visón por 180 euros. Es difícil salir sin alguna compra de El Rastro, pero al llegar las tres de la tarde los vendedores se preparan para recoger y echar el cierre hasta el domingo que viene.

El Rastro de Madrid siempre luce lleno de turistas entre puestos callejeros abarrotados de variopintas mercancias lugar de costumbres y recuerdos del pasado . Recorrer y pasear por este mercado es un placer, donde siempre hay algo que encontrar y algo por descubrir. Gran mercado tradicional y costumbrista orgullo de vecinos, curiosos y turistas, que durante décadas han paseado por un mercadillo emblemático de toda la vida, con los viejos y nuevos vendedores , con el caos y la humanidad que desprende el Rastro, con la vida desbordante que cada Domingo lo convierte en mucho más que en un mero sitio de compra y venta.

El Rastro de Madrid or simply el Rastro is the most popular open air flea market in Madrid (Spain). It is held every Sunday and public holiday during the year and is located along Plaza de Cascorro and Ribera de Curtidores, between Calle Embajadores and the Ronda de Toledo (just south of La Latina metro station). A great variety of products (new and used) can be found at el Rastro. A number of antique shops in the local area are also open on Sunday. Madrid. Spain.

El mercado en las calles del barrio de Embajadores, se celebra los domingos y festivos del año desde el año de 1740. Unos 3.500 puestos de venta de artículos nuevos y de segunda mano y miles de visitantes, venidos de todas partes del mundo, le dan una vida especial a este mercado madrileño. El más antiguo y grande de la ciudad.
El Mercado del Rastro de Madrid se encuentra muy cerca a los vecinos barrios de La Latina y Lavapies de Madrid. Asi que, si lo visitas, podrás también aprovechar el paseo para darte una vuelta por estos sitios emblemáticos del Madrid más castizo y turístico.
