Puerto Rican STREET FOOD at Kiosko Luquillo + El Yunque Rainforest | Luquillo, Puerto Rico
On my third day in San Juan, Puerto Rico in partnership with the Intercontinental San Juan, I headed to explore the El Yunque Rainforest and to eat Puerto Rican street food at Kiosko Luquillo!

We started the day by driving 45 minutes east to visit the El Yunque Rainforest. We saw the Coca Waterfall, Yokahu Tower and the Damas Pool. Each one gives you a completely different experience that are well worth it. If you see a coconut vender, definitely stop and have some coconuts in El Yunque Rainforest!
Next we drove down to the town of Luquillo and visited the Kiosko Luquillo which is a strip of small restaurants next to Luquillo beach, one of the prettiest beaches in Puerto Rico.
We tried a bunch of Puerto Rican street food, like Alcapurrias, Coconut Candy, Blue Crab Empanada, Rellenos de Papa, Carrucho Ceviche and we finished the day off with a 32 oz mojito!
My personal favorite was the Carrucho Ceviche, it was super refreshing and way less filling compared to all the fried foods. I recommend you try all these Puerto Rican street foods and visit El Yunque rainforest when you visit Puerto Rico!

El Yunque Rain Forest, Puerto Rico
The Caribbean National Forest is located 40 kilometers east of San Juan metro area. It consist of 28,000 acres of the most beautiful Rain Forest in the world. It is characterized by a rugged topography and an overabundant, highly diverse vegetation. There are 240 native tree species, 23 of them found only in El Yunque. 88 Rare tree species. 50 native orchids and 150 types of ferns.
For the Taino aborigines, the Luquillo Mountain Range was a sacred place. The word Yuke means white lands in reference to the mountain tops which are usually covered by clouds. Petroglyphs can be found in some remote parts of these mountains.
EL Yunque is the oldest Forest Reserve in the Western Hemisphere. In 1876 King Alfonso XII of Spain set aside 12,000 cuerdas (1 cuerda =.9 acres of land) to be protected for all times. In reality his goal was to avoid the enemy from getting hold of some of the great wood for making strong ships that grew and still grow at EL Yunque. In 1903, the forest was proclaimed The Luquillo Forest Reserve and became the only Rain Forest within the US National Forest System. It is the only Puerto Rican Forest administered by the US Dept. of Agriculture Forest Service.

We finally did it! We made it to El Yunque and hiked literally into the clouds. It was spectacular. Our trip at this point is largely spent outside of San Juan, which has been extremely refreshing. Everything costs a lot away from the city.
After El Yunque, the weather was perfect for a beach trip, so we headed back to our remote spot between Luquillo Beach and Costa Azul.
I lathered up in sun screen a few times while we were there, but before sundown we took a short trip to Los Kioscos Luquillo and stopped at the Tattoo Tavern for some delicious food.
Life is good.

PUERTO RICO: UFO SIGHTINGS MAY HAVED CAUSED EL YUNQUE PARK TO CLOSE

Puerto Rico's largest national parks has become the centre of controversy between locals and the authorities.
The government has closed down 'El Yunque Park' claiming the main road leading to the forest was destroyed during a hurricane last year.
But locals say the park has been closed due to a recent wave of sightings which they claim could be U-F-Os.
El Yunque National Forest is one of the most beautiful tourist attractions in Puerto Rico.
Each year thousands of local and international tourists visit this park to enjoy the luscious flora and exotic fauna.
But the park has now been closed by Federal Government authorities who claim the main road leading to the park was washed out last year when Hurricane Hortense hit the island.
Each day scores of locals try to sneak in without luck.
They say they don't buy the government's explanation claiming there is something else going on - something from outer space.

A few months ago a colleague from work was driving through the highway and saw lights on the sky, very bright. What's going on here? The government is hiding something because it won't let people go through.

Many people from the area are seeing unidentified flying objects, huge flying saucers coming in and out of this place and even, apparently, picking up through a light originating from the space ship strange creatures, which go up and then vanish within the lusciousness of the Yunque forest. What's happening? We don't know. But it has caught our attention that while this is happening the authorities have closed El Yunque to the public with the excuse that the road was allegedly destroyed. However, we see vehicles going in, so how can they go through if the road is in shambles.

Tony Tirado is one of those people who claims he has seen UFOs.
After what he calls a terrifying experience, he's still in the lookout for any unidentified flying objects.
Tirado claims he even saw an alien.

The neighbours' dogs were running after a small creature, of about three to four feet high, with big wings, small arms and legs. My first reaction was fear, because I was surprised, I wasn't expecting to see something like that because the light wasn't coming through the window, it crossed through my house's ceiling and my whole house was illuminated, as if I had turned on all the lights, but I kept all the lights off.

El Yunque is not the only place where U-F-Os have been seen.
At nearby Luquillo beach, this woman claims she saw an unusual bright light covering the ocean.
SOUNDBITE: (Spanish)
It was big. The light didn't go all the way to here but it covered the beach area.
Q: (Off camera) Is this the first time you've seen something like this?
A: Yes, the first time, because I live here on the beach and I've never seen anything like that.
Q: (Off camera) Do you think it could be an UFO?
A: It has to be a flying saucer because something like that has never been seen here.

These are not the first allegations of U-F-Os landing on the island.
Last year in the town of Salinas the alleged dead body of an alien was found.
It was never confirmed whether the whole story and the alleged photographs of the alien were real or just another hoax.
El Yunque's forest guard says it is all in the minds of the people.

TROPICAL Puerto Rican STREET FOOD TOUR | Piñones, Puerto Rico
During my trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico in Partnership with the Intercontinental San Juan, I decided to head out to Piñones to try some tropical authentic Puerto Rican Street Food!
25 Puerto Rican Dishes You Must Eat:
I arrived in San Juan, Puerto Rico early in the morning and headed straight to the Intercontinental San Juan to check in and to show you my club level suite. My suite is huge!
From their I grabbed a quick 15 minute uber ride east to Piñones. This area has one road and their are tons of restaurants and kioskos (traditional huts) where they serve authentic Puerto Rican street food.
My first stop was at Donde Olga Bar & Restaurant to try a Bacalaito which is a salted cod pancake fritter and a Alcapurria which is fried green banana stuffed with crab or beef. Both of these Puerto Rican street foods are must tries when you visit Puerto Rico!
Next we walked over to El Barriles Restaurant to try some Mofongo with Seafood! Mofongo is fried plantain mash with seafood. This is the star of Puerto Rican street food dishes. It is so yummy mixed in with the seafood!
On our way to our next stop I stumbled on Ostiones Vivos Kiosko. This is a small hut serving local Puerto Rican ostras or oysters! They are small bite sized oysters but if you like oysters you will love them!
Our final stop is Sabores de Piñones where I tried two local specialities, Pionono is a stuffed fried plantain stuffed with beef and a Rellenos de Papa which is a fried mash potato stuffed with ground beef.
I think the Pionono was my favorite because it was so sweet but the Bacalaito and Mofogo were off the chain!

It was a little crowded because it was July 4th weekend but we still had a blast exploring the Puerto Rico's rainforest.

Puerto Rico- Part 1/4 (EXPLORING EL YUNQUE)
Join Brian as he journeys across the enchanted island of Puerto Rico, from the mountains of El Yunque to the reefs of Culebra. Though it's officially part of the United States, its large Spanish influence makes it unlike any other region in the country.
After spending the night at San Juan airport, Brian picks up his rental car and sets off for the lush mountains of El Yunque, the only rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System. After stopping at a roadside waterfall and observation tower, Brian attempts to drive through the park, but a road closure forces him to ditch his vehicle and continue on foot. After reaching the park's popular La Mina Falls, Brian reunites with his vehicle and travels to a quaint hotel on the Caribbean Sea, which will serve as the base point for the rest of his expedition.
