Děčín. Cesta podél řeky Labe / Decin. The road along the Elbe River
Děčín (německy Tetschen-Bodenbach, původně Tetschen) je statutární město v okrese Děčín v Ústeckém kraji na soutoku řek Labe a Ploučnice. Zaujímá rozlohu 118,04 km² a žije zde přibližně 49 tisíc obyvatel. Je významným říčním přístavem, důležitou železniční křižovatkou a leží na křižovatce několika významných silničních tahů.
Dnešní Děčín sestává mimo jiné ze dvou původně samostatných měst, Děčína (na pravém břehu Labe, dříve též německy Tetschen) spolu se Starým Městem, a Podmokel (na levém břehu, německy Bodenbach), která byla sloučena roku 1942 do jednoho města s německým názvem Tetschen-Bodenbach. Od 1947 má město krátký český název Děčín. Statutárním městem je od 1. července 2006. Do roku 2002 byl sídlem úřadu okresu Děčín.
Město Děčín používá původní znak královského města – tím je v červeném poli český dvouocasý lev s korunkou, držící parmu.
Kaňon Labe je národní přírodní rezervace, vyhlášená Ministerstvem životního prostředí ČR v roce 2010. Nachází se v Ústeckém kraji u Děčína. Důvodem ochrany jsou přirozené lesní porosty na pravém svahu kaňonu řeky Labe tvořené především acidofilními a květnatými bučinami, suťovými lesy a bory a tvořícími biotop vzácných a ohrožených druhů rostlin a živočichů; geomorfologicky ojedinělý útvar pravého svahu kaňonu řeky Labe tvořeného formami pseudokrasového reliéfu v kvádrových pískovcích svrchní křídy vyskytujícími se zde především v podobě rozsáhlých skalních stěn, věží a složitě členěných hřbetů, suťových polí, soutěsek a jeskyní, se specifickými rostlinnými a živočišnými společenstvy. Péčí o území je pověřena správa CHKO Labské pískovce (od 1972).

Děčín (German Tetschen, 1942-1945 Tetschen-Bodenbach, 1945: Děčín-Podmokly) is a town in Ústecký kraj on the Elbe in the north of the Czech Republic, near the border with the German state of Saxony. Děčín has the main railway border crossing between Germany and the Czech Republic, which is part of the trans-European transport axis North / Baltic Sea - Dresden - Prague. This border crossing was formerly known as Bodenbach. Bodenbach (Podmokly) is today the largest linkselbische district of Děčín.
Kaňon Labe (The Elbe Canyon) is a national nature reserve declared by the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic in 2010. It is located in the Ústí nad Labem Region near Děčín. The reason for the protection is the natural forest stands on the right slope of the Elbe River canyon, consisting mainly of acidophilic and flowery beech trees, scrubbed forests and forests and forming a habitat of rare and endangered species of plants and animals; a geomorphologically unique section of the right slope of the Labe River canyon, formed by forms of pseudocratic relief in the block sandstone of the Upper Cretaceous, occurring mainly in the form of large rock walls, towers and complex spans, rubble fields, gorges and caves, specific plant and animal communities. The care of the territory is entrusted with the administration of the Labské pískovce Protected Landscape Area (since 1972).

Děčín is an industrial town of 50,000 with stations on both banks of the river. The left bank sees EuroCity trains between Dresden and Prague while the east bank carries the majority of freight trains. The two lines continue south to the largest city in the north of the Czech Republic. Ústí nad Labem has a population of 100,000, a riverside port, large chemical and food processing industries, and a major centre for the activities of CD Cargo at a yard west of the city. It is also an important junction as the line west to Karlovy Vary and onward to Cheb diverges. The complex of lines crosses the river on a long low bridge that can be observed from the cable car station. South of the city the Elbe runs in a gorge with a railway on both banks. From Střekov Castle you can follow the trains south or north towards the city. The traffic is very diverse- a mix of both diesel and electric traction. We continue south to the pretty little town of Litomerice and the highly industrial town of Lovosice. Roudnice nad Labem is an historic town on the left bank, while Mělník on the other bank is dominated by grain silos. Všetaty is a tiny town but a gateway for the rural lines to the east.
