Calgary to Bragg Creek, Alberta - Summer - Timelapse
Getting into the foothills, this highway and further west of Bragg Creek has some nice windy roads to drive, just on the edge of the Rocky Mountains.
Calgary (/ˈkælɡəri, -ɡri/ (About this sound listen)) is a city in the Canadian province of Alberta. It is situated at the confluence of the Bow River and the Elbow River in the south of the province, in an area of foothills and prairie, about 80 km (50 mi) east of the front ranges of the Canadian Rockies. The city anchors the south end of what Statistics Canada defines as the Calgary–Edmonton Corridor.[13]
The city had a population of 1,239,220 in 2016, making it Alberta's largest city and Canada's third-largest municipality.[7] Also in 2016, Calgary had a metropolitan population of 1,392,609, making it the fourth-largest census metropolitan area (CMA) in Canada.[9]
The economy of Calgary includes activity in the energy, financial services, film and television, transportation and logistics, technology, manufacturing, aerospace, health and wellness, retail, and tourism sectors.[14] The Calgary CMA is home to the second-highest number of corporate head offices in Canada among the country's 800 largest corporations.[15]
In 1988, Calgary became the first Canadian city to host the Winter Olympic Games, followed in 2010 by Vancouver.
Bragg Creek is a hamlet in southern Alberta under the jurisdiction of Rocky View County[2] in Division No. 6. It is also recognized as a designated place by Statistics Canada.[3]
Bragg Creek is located 30 km (19 mi) west of Calgary (via Highway 8 and Highway 22) at the confluence of the Elbow River and Bragg Creek. It is located north of the intersection of Highway 66 and Highway 22.

Canada's 2nd Largest Urban Park. Fish Creek, Calgary
November 25/2018
Today I am at Fish Creek Provincial Park, in Calgary, Alberta. This is the second largest urban park in Canada, and features over 50 kilometers of trails, of which over 30 kilometers are paved. According to Wikipedia, it is one of the largest urban parks in North America. It stretches 19 kilometers from East to West, and is 3 times larger than Vancouver’s Stanley Park. This beautiful park runs along the bow river, and is a habitat for an abundance of wildlife.

ELBOW RIVER NEAR BRAGG CREEK-AB,CA
The Elbow River originates from Elbow Lake in the Elbow-Sheep Wildland Provincial Park in the Canadian Rockies, then continues through the Rocky Mountain foothills and flows into the hamlet of Bragg Creek. The Elbow River passes under Highway 22 and then travels through the rural community of Springbank and the Tsuu T'ina Nation 145 Indian reserve directly west of Calgary. The river enters the City of Calgary at the Weaselhead Flats, an artificial inland delta, and into the Glenmore Reservoir, one of Calgary's two chief sources of drinking water. From there, it flows northward through residential communities towards the city centre, is crossed by Macleod Trail, passes the Calgary Stampede grounds and finally joins the Bow River west of the Calgary Zoo.
Fort Calgary (the North-West Mounted Police post established in 1873 around which settlement in the Calgary area began) was located at the confluence of the Bow and Elbow rivers.
The river has a total length of 120 kilometers (75 mi), and drains an area of over 1,200 square kilometer (460 sq mi). From its origin in the Elbow Pass at approximately 2,100 meters (6,900 ft), it drops 1,060 meters (3,480 ft) at a 1 percent slope to its mouth at the Bow River, at an elevation of 1,040 meters (3,410 ft).

Calgary River Pathways - Cycling Tour
This video shows my October 15th, 2017 bike ride along the Bow River and Elbow River Pathways in Downtown Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The video begins at 21st St NW and Memorial Drive and ends the Saddle Dome Peace Bridge (1st Ave SW & 7th St SW).
In this video I am riding a Shwinn Network 2.0 hybrid style bike which I rented from HI Calgary. I filmed this using a Contour Roam 2 camera mounted to the head tube of the bike. I recorded the audio with a Panasonic voice recorder and earpiece microphone. My speed and heart rate were tracked using a Garmin handheld GPS, and I used VIRB Edit to overlay the gauges.
I hope you enjoy this video. Please leave a comment and SUBSCRIBE!
