Special Reoperation of Kalamata Depot
During the special temporary reoperation of Kalamata-Messini line in the second half of September, the central depot of southern Hellas in Kalamata saw some of its old glory. Trains moving again on its rails and people working under its roof again. Next to the MAN1 DMUs that were going to serve the suburban line, the old rulers of the meter gauge line...the glory of Peloponnese now forgoten and stored in the depot. Some others are rusting at the sidings. However, the sound of the engine in the building makes the railfan to imagine and hope for the best...
In this video you are going to see the preperations on the trains for the first train of this year's event and as well as some of the museum trains that are stored at Kalamata depot (mostly you will see those stabled into the main building). In the next video you are going to see shots from the line and te trains that ran on it for 9 days.

Piraeus, Greece: Harbor, Beach, Mediterranean Sea, View of a Typical Street
In ancient times, Piraeus was the critically important harbor of Athens. It is a bustling city now, easily reached using the subway system from Athens. We walked the streets, journeyed to the Mediterranean Sea and also visited the Pireaus Museum, but were not permitted to record or take photos. It's a small museum, but worth a visit if you're in the area.

The Athens Metro is a rapid-transit system in Greece which serves the Athens conurbation and parts of East Attica. It incorporates the former Athens-Piraeus Electric Railways (ISAP), which opened as a conventional steam railway in 1869, and which was electrified in 1904 and is now part of Line 1. Beginning in 1991, Attiko Metro constructed and extended Lines 2 and 3 and the Attiko Metro Operations Company (AMEL) operated these lines from 2000 to 2011. The metro network merged in 2011 when the Greek government created the Urban Rail Transport Company (STASY), a subsidiary of the Athens Urban Transport Organisation (OASA). First Chairman and CEO of the merged company became Kostas Vassiliadis, a former Chief Engineer and later CEO of Athens-Piraeus Electric Railways. It has significantly changed Athens by providing a much-needed solution to the city's traffic and air pollution problem, as well as revitalising many of the areas it serves. An extension of Line 3 is under construction towards Piraeus and also other extensions of existing lines, as well as a new line, are under consideration. The Athens Metro is actively connected with the other means of public transport, such as buses, trolleys, the Athens Tram and the Proastiakos suburban railway.

I.S.A.P. is the acronym for the Athens–Piraeus Electric Railways, the oldest urban rapid transit system of Athens metropolitan area in Greece. Opened as a suburban railway line connecting Athens with the nearby major port city of Piraeus, it was gradually converted to full rapid transit operations, making it one of the oldest metro lines in the world. The current line evolved from the older Athens & Piraeus Railway and Lavrion Square-Strofyli railway. In June 2011 ISAP was absorbed by a new transport company, STASY S.A.
The line from Piraeus to Thision was inaugurated on February 27, 1869 as a steam train connecting Athens and its port, Piraeus, and was operated by Athens & Piraeus Railway Co. The project was considered important, so Queen Olga and the Prime Minister Thrasyvoulos Zaimis attended the inauguration ceremony. There were 8 trains in each direction daily and 9 trains in each direction on Sundays.
In 1874 the Athens & Piraeus Railway Company was bought by the Bank of Industrial Credit. Under the new ownership the railway procured additional rolling stock. Soon the line was extended to Omonoia Square with an underground section constructed with the cut-and-cover method.
The line was electrified in 1904 using the 600 V DC, third rail, top contact system (today increased to 750 V DC) by Thomson Houston.

Monastiraki (English: Monastery) station is an interchange station on the Athens Metro, between Lines 1 and 3. The original Monastirion surface station on Line 1 opened in May 17, 1895. It became an interchange point of the network when the underground station of Line 3 opened in April 22, 2003. It is located in the historic center of Athens, near the neighborhood of Plaka. The station is right beneath the Acropolis and next to the site of the Ancient Agora of Athens.

Athens is the capital and largest city of Greece. Athens dominates the Attica region and is one of the world's oldest cities, with its recorded history spanning over 3,400 years[ and its earliest human presence starting somewhere between the 11th and 7th millennium BCE.
In modern times, Athens is a large cosmopolitan metropolis and central to economic, financial, industrial, maritime, political and cultural life in Greece. In 2012, Athens was ranked the world's 39th richest city by purchasing power and the 67th most expensive in a UBS study.
Athens is a global city and one of the biggest economic centres in southeastern Europe. It has a large financial sector, and its port Piraeus is both the largest passenger port in Europe, and the second largest in the world.

NEO FALIRO
#PIRAEUS #PIRAEUSPORT Faliro (Ancient Greek: Φάληρον, Phálēron; Modern Greek: Φάληρο, Fáliro; Latin: Phaleron and Phalerum) is a seaside suburb 8 km southwest of downtown Athens. There are two communities sharing the name: Palaio (Old) and Neo (New) Faliro. Palaio Faliro is a municipality, whereas Neo Faliro is part of the town of Piraeus. Although the two communities mark the northwestern and southwestern ends of the namesake Bay, they are not contiguous.
The sandy bay in the southwest, named Phaleron Bay, is lined near Poseidonos Avenue. It was the major port of Athens before Themistocles had the three rocky natural harbours by the promontory of Piraeus developed as alternative, starting from 491 BC.
Olympic venues for the 2004 Summer Olympic Games are located near the Saronic shoreline. Faliron is the resting place of the museum ship Averof, famous for action during the First Balkan War and for escaping during the battle of Greece during World War II to British-controlled Egypt.
Diogenes Laertius says that Musaeus died in Phalerum. Visit our website Check our full list of ships :
