A Tycoon Built This Palace In 1979, And When He Died 35 Years Later It Was Practically Untouched
It’s hard to imagine what your home might look like four decades from now – unless, that is, it ends up looking exactly the same. Yes, that’s precisely what happened to the home of Ralph Levin, a scrap metal tycoon who built his own palace in 1979, complete with all the hallmarks of the era. And nearly 40 years later, it still bears all those symbols of a decade gone by. Indeed, it’s an absolutely fascinating window into the past.

WHDH-TV Bozo the Clown 1966
Boston's original Channel 5, WHDH-TV, produced a local, weekday version of the Bozo the Clown children's program between 1959 and 1970. Booth announcer Frank Avruch played the title role. These excerpts are from a 1966 broadcast.
Episodes videotaped at WHDH between 1965 and '67 were syndicated to markets that did not produce a local version of the show.

* Recollections from former WHDH-TV employee Ron Hopkins via tvdvdreviews:
I worked in the Music Dept. of WHDH-TV/Channel 5 in the 1960s. Ed Carroll Spinney was Grandma Nellie, Mr. Lion and Kookie Kangaroo, along with a few others. Del Grosso was Clank the Robot. The reason for each playing more than one character was that it gave the show more variety and allowed them to work several days a week.
During the Holiday Season, those of us in the Music Dept. would wear the costumes of the characters so that they could appear all on the same show. Ed Spinney would do the voice of each character off camera.
When Frank Avruch was sick or injured - he broke his hip playing handball - Romper Room's Miss Jean's husband Bill Harrington would play Bozo's brother Nozo.
Ed Spinney went on to become Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch on Sesame Street.

Hear Mom's Chilling 911 Call After Husband Kills Teen Daughters and Himself
Police released the chilling 911 calls from an Illinois home where they say a man killed his daughters, then turned the gun on himself. Authorities in St. Charles say 48-year-old Randall Coffland killed his 16-year-old twin girls, Brittany and Tiffany and then shot his wife, who also called 911 for help. The dispatcher tried to get her to tell him the address, but the mother's pain was too much to bear. Inside Edition's Mara Montalbano ( has the story.

Eduardo Bonilla-Silva, Why Can't We Just Get Along?...
Full Title: Eduardo Bonilla-Silva, Why Can't We Just Get Along?: Race Matters in the Colorblind Racial Movement
Race Today: A Symposium on Race in America brought a group of the nation’s most respected intellectuals on race, racial theory and racial inequality together to consider the troubling state of black life in America today. What are the broader structural factors that shape race today? How do these factors work on the ground and institutionally and what are the consequences? What are the ideas about race, and racial identities that enable the normalcy of stark racial differences today? In particular, what role do key ideas such as “colorblindness” and “post race” play in shaping perception and outcomes? What can be done to challenge ideological and structural impediments to a racially egalitarian society?
Eduardo Bonilla-Silva is a Professor of Sociology at Duke University. Bonilla-Silva speaks widely on race and ethnic matters nation wide. He has published four books: White Supremacy and Racism in the Post-Civil Rights Era (co-winner of the 2002 Oliver Cox Award given by the American Sociological Association), Racism Without Racists: Color-Blind Racism and the Persistence of Racial Inequality in the United States (2004 Choice Award; this book is now in a second expanded and revised edition that was published in 2006), White Out: The Continuing Significance of Racism (with Ashley Doane), and (with Tukufu Zuberi) White Logic, White Methods: Racism and Social Science.
