An experience of a lifetime visiting the Elephant Stay in Ayutthaya
Officially listed as an endangered species in 1986, Asian Elephant numbers are slowly on the rise, especially here in Thailand, thanks to the tremendously dedicated staff here at the Not for Profitt Elephant Stay & the Royal Elephant Kraal and Village. Established in 1996, the primary objective is to conserve the species and to provide a home for retired, abused ,sick, injured and neglected elephants. The first successful birth was in 2,000 .......there have been many more since!

Floating market Bangkok | Ayutthaya ruins | Elephants
We went south of Bangkok to experience Damneom floating market and went all the way up north to see Ayutthaya ruins and the elephants. we spent close to 6 hours just for traveling, but it is all worth it.
We experienced the Bangkok traffic jam when we were on our way back to the hotel from Ayutthaya. It was supposed to be 1 hour and 30mins drive but it took us 3+ hours.
When you're in Thailand, don't miss these 3 destination. It's amazing.

Royal Elephant Kraal in Ayutthaya, Thailand
This video is about the Royal Elephant Kraal in Ayutthaya, Thailand. Ayutthaya is the ancient capital of Siam (Thailand today) and is about a 90 minute drive north of Bangkok. This Kraal, or pavilion, dates back to the 16th century and is the only one left in Thailand. This is where the King of Siam would gather his personal elephants for his viewing, many of which were captured in the wild and then domesticated.
The present owners now operate an elephant asylum for retired and nonworking elephants and focus on creating a sustainable future for Thailand's elephants. Over the past few generations, elephant mortality had exceeded birth rates, and they are working diligently to help change this using their personal money to care for the elephants. Every time we visit there are more baby elephants. This time we encountered 7 less than 3 months old and were told several of the females were expecting babies in the coming months.
We are not associated with the Royal Elephant Kraal, but visit them often and always bring friends and relatives who are visiting Thailand to see this wonderful facility. It is not a tourist spot, but they welcome visitors with open arms, and I highly recommend a visit if you are coming to Thailand. They do have a program for people to volunteer and experience working and living with the elephants. More details can be found on their website:

Elephantstay: The REAL Story
This elephant at Elephantstay, Ayutthaya, Thailand was not moved from her pen in seven days. She is chained into the pen day in day out while she nurses her baby, who is over six months old. She cannot even walk around the pen so it's worse than being in a zoo. Her rocking indicates stress and distress. It's her way of going stir-crazy. There is no evidence of this behaviour in wild elephants. Only captive elephants do this. She is one of many elephants who display this behaviour at Elephantstay due to their restricted conditions.
