225. My Record Flight to Dunn Peak, the Highest Peak in Kamloops Region, March 30, 2019
I was always intrigued by the snowy peak on very distant northern horizon. I was very close to this region in Oct 29, 2018, when flying to Barriere, BC. I did not dare to fly there until I would learn more about this mountain.
The conditions were ripe for very good flight at 9:30 am, with blue, but hazy morning sky and +6C. Just before I strapped myself into my bird, I was visited by my flying club buddy. He told me about his nasty experience with extreme turbulence while flying his regular airplane there. This stacked in my head, especially, when in that mountain range. I was flying in the final stage at 11,175', well above the peak elevation of 8,600' to avoid the mountain turbulence. I stayed on the up wind side of mountain only and chickened out to fly around, hearing in my head his story of 1,000'/min downdraft.
It was very good flight without any surprises. It was another milestone flight with these, for me, record setting values:
Distance: 184 km (114 mi)
Max Elevation: 3,406 m (11,175')
Delta elevation 3,053 m (10,015')
Average Speed: 116 km/h (72 mph)
Time: 1:35
Temper -6C to +8C (21 F to 46 F)
Dogsledding - Saskatchewan, Canada
Experience the exhilaration and the extreme level of teamwork which is involved with dogsledding.

Snowshoe hike up at Little Diamond Head Peak, Elfin Lakes, Garibaldi Provincial Park, Squamish BC
Little Diamond Peak located up at Elfin Lakes area Squamish BC. After you arrive to Elfin Shelter continue on to reach the Columnar & Gargoyle saddle. Continue down the saddle, this route have some ups & downs travelling to reach to the Little Diamond Head summit. Snowshoe from the trailhead parking lot to the Little Diamond Head Peak, my GPS tracked 30 Km round-trip. Elevation gain of 1072 meters. 11 hours to complete with breaks. Nice to knock this peak off my list.
Elfin Lake Hike - From trailhead to Elfin Shelter & Lake is 22 Km round-trip. 600 meters elevation gain. Rated as moderate. Average time 5-6 hours.
Elfin Lakes to Little Diamond Head Peak - 8 to 14 Km round-trip. Depends summer route is longer, winter route is shorter. 472 meters of elevation gain. 2056 meters from sea level. Average time 3 to 6 hours round-trip. Rated at moderate. I had mention difficult cause of route finding in the snow & making sure avalanche is rated low. The summit is in a slightly steep angle. The afternoon sun can heat up the snow pack & change the snow conditions. Happy to make it safe and sound.

The Grind - Algonquin Solo Pt.3
On June 7th 2019 I began my first solo trip into Algonquin Park in Ontario, Canada. I captured my adventure and have compiled the footage into this series.
In Part 3, I battle swarms of mosquitoes and black flies, and melt under the blazing hot sun while on the hunt fishing every technique I can think of, but coming up empty handed.
Hope you enjoy.

Our Big Alaska & Canada Adventure - July 2020
How about letting me be your tour guide for a trip to Alaska and Canada in July of 2020? I'll be leading a group cruise and land tour, and you're invited to come along!
We'll be doing a 7-day Alaska cruise on Royal Princess, visiting Hubbard Glacier, Glacier Bay, Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan, and ending in Vancouver. Some members of the group will also be doing a five day land and rail tour of Alaska before the cruise, as well as a 5-day land and rail tour of Canada after the cruise.
The Alaska land & rail tour will take us to Denali National Park. We'll be staying in Princess Wilderness Lodges, and also taking a great train ride on the Alaska railroad.
The Canadian land & rail tour will involve extensive tours of Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia... followed by a two-day rail tour through the Canadian Rockies on the Rocky Mountaineer. Then we'll tour Banff, before ending our trip and flying home from the Calgary airport.
You can find even more information about our plans at
If you're interested in booking a cabin to come along with us, contact my travel agent, Caitlin Gallagher, by sending an email to caitlin@ambrentravel.com
Regarding that opening shot at the beginning of the video...
Perhaps you're wondering what those things are behind me.
Those are crab traps, sitting on a dock waiting to be loaded on to fishing boats at a pier. It was the closest thing I could find to something Alaska-related in my home on the central coast of California!
