This will be the fourth installment of the Bikes & Beers series, an ongoing effort to join the passion of bicycling with a growing enthusiasm for local craft beer all across Conn. Participants will take part in an organized bicycle ride, broken up into groups to allow riders at all levels of skill and experience to enjoy themselves.
I'm not in great shape and I hadn't ridden a bike since high school, said Dan Johnson, a participant in a recent Bikes & Beers event. But I ended up having a blast on the ride; and the beer tasted all the better after working off some calories.
Once the ride is completed, the cyclists will gain exclusive access to Eli Cannon's, which will be closed to the general public on the night of the event.
We're normally closed on Mondays, said Carrie Carella, head manager at Eli Cannon's. But we wanted to do something special and decided to open our doors and provide something that will set this night apart from previous Bikes & Beers rides. This is going to be a truly unique event!
The staff at Eli Cannon's will be pulling out all the stops for this ride's after party by providing their always extensive offering of craft beer, along with a selection of complimentary food and a limited menu for those that want something more. Connecticut's own New England Brewing Company will augment Eli Cannon's extensive tap list with some of the finest locally crafted beer available in the state. The night will be topped off with live music from The Clams a local instrumental band that specializes in 1960s surf rock.
This event will have a little something for everyone. So whether you're an avid bike rider, who loves live music, or you're a craft beer fan who needs to borrow a bike from a friend, you don't want to miss this exclusive event, be sure to RSVP on the CT Beer Trail website.
Riders will meet at the Pedal Power bicycle shop in Middletown and will depart between 5:00 and 5:30 p.m. depending on their experience level. Once the ride is finished, participants are welcome to park their bicycles in the Pedal Power shop and head over to Eli Cannon's for the after party.
Complete details on the ride can be found online:
Pedal Power and the CT Beer Trail have two additional rides planned for the remainder of the year, including a ride scheduled with Plan B in Simsbury and a Halloween costume themed ride with the folks at Willimantic Brewing Co. More details on upcoming rides can be found at ctbeertrail.net.
