One activity proposed by New Zealand artist Campbell Patterson, who makes videos of himself that are funny, odd and fascinating, invited kids to watch his video, 'Lifting my mother for as long as I can', then complete the challenges and think of funny activities they could perform. As a result the kids thought up the activities that we filmed and made into this performance art video.

The kids, adults and seniors of our small town of about 2,000 people in far north Queensland, Cape York love to join in the many art activities. Over the last 32 years the art society has existed we've run activities that benefit the whole community by bringing art into the town for appreciation by all. Many visitors to Cooktown marvel at the local talent.
See for the Kids Asia Pacific Triennia, sponsored by the Gallery Of Modern Art in Brisbane, when artists created interactive activities for local children who had an awesome art day.
Also the Biennial Cooktown Art Festival in 2007 and 2009 showcased local and district artistic talent. Some great photos of artists works can be seen on our website (click Art Festival links) and Cooktown Art Blog - (search for Cootown Art Festival)
We can't afford to run the festival again in 2011 unless we manage to get more sponsors and donations. Also our gallery badly needs some renovations as it is now 22 years old and we have a few leaks!

Edward Crim, and Forest Park 365 at Norton's Fine Art 4/30/10
Edward Crim is a rare breed, a throwback to the kind of man I remember in my youth, a man of heart, mind, and soul, the kind of man, I always voted for, who never got elected. I hope that changes. He is a deeply reflective man, and yet, very easy to talk to. These qualities, often house separate individuals. I was honored to be invited to this opening of his year long photo study of Forest Park, in St. Louis, MO.
QMF Laid In Earth Concert Hope Vale Choir
Culture in Cooktown! Free in the Park!
The stage and back drop is the Music Ship - a permanent percussive playground in the park. It was built in 2007 as part of the Queensland Music Festival on the shores of the Endeavour River.
Saturday1st August 2009 the QMF revisited the Musical Ship to perform a concert featuring a newly composed Laid In Earth musical perfomance by composer Damian Barbeler. Also featured were vocalist Sarah Blasko, Emma-Louise, Daniel Rojas and Kurrawong Ensemble with community singers from Hope Vale, Rossville and Cooktown.
The afternoon began with a percussion piece performed by school children on the Music Ship then popular Black Image Band performed followed by the Kurrawong Ensemble. Emma-Louise's medley of songs was followed by the sunset performance of the composition Laid In Earth. This was introduced by Hope Vale Choir seen here.
Please excuse video quality as it was shot on a small camera with wind, crowd chatter and the threat of rain from a good distance away!
