Places to see in ( Aachen - Germany ) Elisenbrunnen
The Elisenbrunnen in Aachen is a classical building by the architects Johann Peter Cremer and Karl Friedrich Schinkel . The construction was the responsibility of the Aachen private builder Andreas Hansen . The building was named after the Prussian Crown Princess Elisabeth Ludovika of Bavaria (Elise), the daughter of the Bavarian King Maximilian I , wife of the later Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. Her bust was made in 1828 from Carrara marble by Christian Friedrich Tieck and 1832 in the rotunda established.
The Elisenbrunnen today consists of an open foyer with Doric column porch and a pavilion left and right with several rooms. From two drinking wells flows the warm water of the Kaiserquelle (52 ° C), which is led via a pipe from Büchel to Brunnen. The water is highly sulphurous , so that the Elisenbrunnen always emanates a characteristic smell of rotten eggs ( hydrogen sulphide ).
Due to its numerous thermal springs , Aachen has always been a bathing and health resort . Already the Romans used the hot springs for the operation of spas . At the end of the 17th century, Aachen became a fashion spa, which was visited by crowned heads and other celebrities .
In 1819 the city council of Aachen decided to build a well hall. With the new drinking fountain a representative building was to be built in which to spa guests as the healing water estimated thermal waters of the 180 meters from the Kaiser source could be issued. The original location of the well was the moat. Due to the better morphological position (even gradient from the Kaiserquelle), however, the decision was made to locate at Friedrich-Wilhelm-Platz. The foundation stone was laid on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the throne of the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III.on November 16, 1822. In 1823, Karl Friedrich Schinkel revised the original plans of Cremer. Only after the granting of the building permit by the Prussian government in 1824 could be started with the construction of the new drinking fountain. The rear part of the Elisenbrunnes was built on remnants of the medieval city wall (Barbarossamauer).
In 2009, the Elisenbrunnen was closed to traffic for several months; Static defects were found in the vaults of the basement room under the rotunda . The ground floor of the rotunda had to be removed, it was reconstructed after the completion of the static backup work with bluestone plates.

Aachen is a spa city near Germany’s borders with Belgium and the Netherlands. Aachen Cathedral was founded around 800 A.D. and a Gothic chancel was added later. Its Domschatzkammer (treasury) has medieval artifacts including the shrine of Charlemagne, who was buried here in 814 A.D. Nearby is the baroque town hall, Aachener Rathaus, with 19th-century frescoes. Sulfurous water fills the fountains of Elisenbrunnen.
Aachen has been around for millennia. The Romans nursed their war wounds and stiff joints in the steaming waters of its mineral springs, but it was Charlemagne who put the city firmly on the European map. The emperor, too, enjoyed a dip now and then, but it was more for strategic reasons that he made Aachen the geographical and political capital of his vast Frankish Empire in 974 – arguably the first empire with European dimensions.
Today, Aachen is still a quintessentially international city that gets unique appeal from its location in the border triangle with the Netherlands and Belgium. Charlemagne’s legacy lives on in the stunning Dom, which in 1978 became Germany’s first Unesco World Heritage Site, as well as in the new Centre Charlemagne and the Route Charlemagne walking trail. Aachen has a lively vibe that's further enhanced by a large student population.
Aachen is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, at the point where Germany borders on Belgium and the Netherlands. Historically this spa-town was a prominent city, the place where the German Kings were crowned, and a famously favoured residence of Charlemagne who still lies buried in the impressive cathedral he himself had built. The city is packed with historic sights that remind of those days, including medieval buildings, city gates and beautiful fountains. Today, Aachen has become a pleasant mix of historic (often Baroque) grandeur and modern innovation. It has a population of 246,000 and is home to a large and highly regarded university. All in all, a place well worth visiting.
The old town is best explored on foot and orientation signs can be found all around. Aachen at a whole is a fairly large city. A car can come in handy but parking can get expensive, especially in the center of town. Fortunately, Aachen has an excellent city bus system, operated by ASEAG, including a few night bus lines. You can get tickets from the bus driver. You can rent a bike at the fahrrad station, in the central train station. Although it is not the most biker-friendly town in Germany, there are a number of bike routes and getting around on bike is increasingly popular. Taxis are readily available on the train stations but also on streets.

Aachen or Bad Aachen, traditionally known in English and French as Aix-la-Chapelle is a spa and border city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Aachen was the preferred residence of Charlemagne, and, from 936 to 1531, the place where 31 Holy Roman Emperors were crowned Kings of the Germans. Aachen is the westernmost city in Germany, located near the borders with Belgium and the Netherlands, 61 km (38 mi) west south west of Cologne in a former coal-mining area. RWTH Aachen University is located in the city. Aachen's industries include science, engineering and information technology. In 2009, Aachen was ranked eighth among cities in Germany for innovation.
Aachen is located in the middle of the Meuse–Rhine Euroregion, close to the border tripoint of Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium. The city of Heerlen in the Netherlands lies nearby, as does Eupen, the capital of the German-speaking Community of Belgium, both located about 20 km (12.4 mi) from Aachen's city centre. Aachen lies near the head of the open valley of the River Wurm (which today flows through the city in canalised form), part of the larger basin of the River Meuse.
Aachen's railway station, the Hauptbahnhof (Central Station), was constructed in 1841 for the Cologne–Aachen railway line. In 1905 it was moved closer to the city centre. The first horse tram line in Aachen opened in December 1880. After electrification in 1895, it was with maximal 213.5 kilometres (132.7 mi) in 1915 the fourth-longest tram system in Germany. Aachen is connected to the Autobahn A4 (West-East), A44 (North-South) and A544 (a smaller motorway from the A4 to the Europaplatz near the city centre). Maastricht Aachen Airport (IATA: MST, ICAO: EHBK) is the main airport of Aachen and Maastricht. It is located around 15 NM (28 km; 17 mi) northwest of Aachen.

Arslan TV - Elisenbrunnen (Aachen) ᴴᴰ
~ Wikipedia
