If you’re looking for the best things to do in Sri Lanka, we’re sure you’ve heard all about Ella. A mountain town in middle country Sri Lanka, Ella is famous for it’s hilly landscape, lush green tea plantations, and the iconic Nine Arch Bridge. We took a short hike down a path early in the morning to see 9 Arch Bridge, and wow was it worth it! It’s best to get to the site early to avoid crowds, however be sure to stick around for a train time because you don’t want to miss seeing one soar through the Nine Arch Bridge tunnel.
Next up on the list of things to do in Sri Lanka is visit Ravana Falls, one of the widest waterfalls in the entire country. Ravana Falls are a short 15 minute drive outside of Ella town and are well worth a stop! This is not the most impressive of waterfalls in Sri Lanka, however during rainy season the water cascades heavily down an extremely tall series of rocks and boulders that is well worth a visit.
Last but certainly not least on our list of best things to do in Ella Sri Lanka is a hike up Little Adams Peak. This 45 minute hike takes you through gorgeous tea plantations and a steep climb about midway through. But don’t worry, there were people of all ages and physical ability taking the hike up. We highly suggest visiting Little Adams Peak for a 360 degree view of Ella and it’s surroundings. The base of the hike is just a short 15 minute walk from main Ella town, so there is no excuse not to see it!

The Ravana Falls (popularly known as Ravana Ella in Sinhala) is a famous sightseeing attraction in Sri Lanka which is situated at Badulla district closed to Near Ella town. This waterfall measures approximately 25 m (82 ft) in height and cascades from an oval-shaped concave rock outcrop. The falls form part of the Ravana Ella Wildlife Sanctuary, and is located 6 km away from the local railway station.

Ella Gap in Ella (Sri Lanka) - Video 1
Ella is approximately 200 kilometres (120 mi) east of Colombo and is situated at an elevation of 1,041 metres (3,415 ft) above sea level where fog tends to move in by 10 AM followed by rain around 1 PM during the rainy season. Ella is surrounded by hills covered with cloud forests and tea plantations. Major sites include the Ella Gap along with Little Adam's Peak which have views across the Southern plains of Sri Lanka.

The Ravana Falls is a popular sightseeing attraction in Sri Lanka. It currently ranks as one of the widest falls in the country. The falls have been named after the legendary king Ravana, which is connected to the famous Indian epic, the Ramayana. According to legend, it is said that Ravana (who was the king of Sri Lanka at the time) had kidnapped princess Sita, and had hidden her in the caves behind this waterfall, now simply known as the Ravana Ella Cave. The reason for the kidnapping is said to be a revenge for slicing off the nose of his sister by Rama (husband of Sita) and his brother Laxmana. At the time, the cave was surrounded with thick forests in the midst of wilderness. It is also believed that Rama’s queen bathed in a pool that accumulated the water falling from this waterfall.They believed that Ravana has played the Ravanahatha over here.

The famous Ravana Ella Cave lies 1,370 m (4,490 ft) above sea level on the foundation of a cliff. The cave is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Sri Lanka, located 11 km (7 mi) away from Bandarawela.

After spending a day in Nuwara Eliya we decided to go to much heard of Ella, the beautiful town of Ella. Its a small town surrounded by serene nature, peace and calm of the forests, away from the busy city life. The air is so fresh and so are the fruits and vegetables here and so is my mind right now.
