கரூர் நகரின் மையப் பகுதியில் பிரசிதி பெற்ற மாரியம்மன் கோவில் அமைந்துள்ளது. நூற்றாண்டு பழமை வாய்ந்த இந்த கோவிலின் திருவிழா வருடம் தோறும் வைகாசி மாதம் 30 நாட்கள் நடைபெறுவது வழக்கம். திருவிழாவின் முதல் நிகழ்வான கம்பம் போடுதல் நிகழ்ச்சி கடந்த 14ம் தேதி வெகு விமர்சையாக நடைபெற்றது. கடந்த 14ம் தேதி துவங்கிய இந்த திருவிழா அடுத்த மாதம் 11ம் தேதி வரை அம்மன் குடிபுகுதல் நிகழ்ச்சியுடன் முடிவடைகிறது.
திருவிழாவின் முக்கிய 3 நாட்களில் முதல் நாளான நேற்று அதிகாலை முதல் பக்தர்கள் அமராவதி ஆற்றங்கரையில் நீராடி அக்னி சட்டி, பால்குடம், கரும்பு தொட்டில் எடுத்துக் கொண்டு ஜவஹர் பஜார் வழியாக சுமார் ஒன்றரை கி.மீ தூரம் நடந்து வந்து மாரியம்மனுக்கு நேர்த்தி கடன் செலுத்தினர். 2ம் நாளான இன்று அமராவதி ஆற்றங்கரையில் இருந்து அலகு குத்தியும், பறவை அலகு குத்தி தொங்கியவாறும், காவடி அலகு குத்தியும் ஊர்வலாக ஆடி, பாடி வந்தனர். இவற்றை ஆயிரக்கணக்கான பக்தர்கள் சாலையின் இரு பக்கத்திலும் நின்று சாமி தரிசனம் செய்தனர். திருவிழாவினை முன்னிட்டு நு}ற்றுக் கணக்கான போலீசார் பாதுகாப்பு பணியில் ஈடுபடுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளனர். மேலும், நாளை கம்பம் ஆற்றுக்கு அனுப்புதல் நிகழ்ச்சி விமர்சையாக நடைபெற உள்ளது. இதனை முன்னிட்டு கரூர் மாவட்டத்திற்கு உள்ளுர் விடுமுறை மாவட்ட நிர்வாகம் சார்பில் அறிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.இந்த விடுமுறைக்கு வரும் 10 ஆம் தேதி வேலை நாட்களாக செயல்படும் என மாவட்ட ஆட்சியர் பொறுப்பு சூர்யபிராகஷ் தெரிவித்தார்.
