Ellenroad Engine House June Steaming Day 2015
A visit to Ellenroad Engine House on 7th June for the June Steaming Day. A number of Classic cars were on show outside the Engine House with visitors inside being entertained by the Littleborough Oakenhoof Dancers and Black Nan Band.
This video features The Worlds Largest working mill engine Victoria and Alexandra,The Marsden Engine and the Whiteless Beam Engine in action, along with the visiting Classic cars on show.

Ellen Road Steam Museum Steam Day
Largest steam mill engine in UK , based at Ellen Road , Rochdale UK .Fly Wheel is 85 tons and rotates at 56 rpm and produces 3000hp. Used to power the spinning machinery via pulley up to 1975.
Ellenroad Steam Museum - a postcard from the past
Ellenroad Mill was a cotton spinning mill in Newhey, Milnrow, Rochdale in England. It was built as a mule spinning mill in 1890 by Stott and Sons and extended in 1899. It was destroyed by fire on 19 January 1916. When it was rebuilt, it was designed and equipped as a ring spinning mill.
After closure, the mill itself was demolished in 1982, but the engine house – complete with steam engine – and the boiler house chimney were retained. Ownership passed to the Ellenroad Trust.
The Ellenroad Trust Ltd was established in 1985 to ensure the preservation of the Ellenroad Engine House and Engines. The Trust arranged the refurbishment of the boiler house and the engines and started to run the site as a steam museum. The Engine House was then scheduled as a National Historic Monument and the Trust is the legal guardian of the site.
The Ellenroad Steam Museum Society Ltd was formed as ‘The Friends of Ellenroad’ and is tasked by the Trust to carry out the day to day activities on the site. It maintains the building, engines and exhibits and organises the monthly steaming days when the Engine House is open to the public. At the present time it is entirely run by volunteers.
The Ellenroad Ring Mill Engine is steamed on the First Sunday of the month (except January for boiler inspection).
