Ellis and Trinity Beach - Cairns
Ellis Beach is located (12 mi) north of Cairns on the Captain Cook Highway between Cairns and Port Douglas. It’s located on the northern side of a rocky outcrop that separates it from the bustling Palm Cove. Ellis Beach is long and thin, stretching for just over 1 kilometer and is totally undeveloped which makes it look very natural and less busy than other beaches around. There is very little swell or surf here because of the rocky outcrop at the southern end and the large Double Island that blocks the sea. At the southern end of the beach the fishing is excellent, and at all other places, the sunbathing is great.
Trinity Beach is one of the favored Cairns beaches amongst locals. Trinity Beach is just as beautiful as the other northern beaches that line the Cairns Coral Coast but with a more down-to-earth and laid back casual atmosphere amongst classy surrounds. Trinity Beach is a family-friendly beach and the kids will love the sandy beach and shady trees with year-round safe swimming.

Palm Cove Beach - Cairns
Palm Cove beach is arguably the most pristine of all Cairns' Northern Beaches, and it offers picnic tables and free barbeques along its entire length. At the northern end of the beach is a long jetty used for fishing and the Palm trees line the shore.
Behind the fringe of palm trees lies Palm Cove Accommodation. From backpackers accommodation to 5-star resorts and fine-dining restaurants, Palm Cove has it all. This versatile beach can be used for the most relaxing holiday experience you can find, and can also serve as an exciting venue for water sports and other activities the far north has to offer.

Rainbow Bay Beach - Gold Coast
Rainbow Bay is one of the southernmost beaches in Queensland. Rainbow Bay is a north facing beach that is bordered in the west by Greenmount Hill. Rainbow Bay is a popular swimming beach, owing to its protected location and usually low waves. There are usually reasonable waves that are popular with the surfers during southerlies, when the winds blow offshore.
Froggy’s Beach is a beautiful wedge of sand located between Snapper Rocks and Point Danger on the very Southern Point of the Gold Coast. The cove is protected from the wind by the surrounding hills and balances nicely with the contrast of colors from rocks, sands, and driftwood on the beach.

Big Muddy Shit Heap (Carins, Queensland)
Cairns is a regional city in Far North Queensland, Australia, founded 1876. The city was named after William Wellington Cairns, then-current Governor of Queensland. It was formed to serve miners heading for the Hodgkinson River goldfield, but experienced a decline when an easier route was discovered from Port Douglas. It later developed into a railhead and major port for exporting sugar cane, gold and other metals, minerals and agricultural products from surrounding coastal areas and the Atherton Tableland region. As of 2010, the population is approximately 150,920.
Cairns is located about 1,700 km (1,056 mi) from Brisbane, and about 2,420 km (1,504 mi) from Sydney by road. It is a popular travel destination for foreign tourists because of its tropical climate. It serves as a starting point for people wanting to visit the Great Barrier Reef and Far North Queensland.
Photos recovered by Cairns locals and The Cairns Post newspaper reveal that the esplanade was once a sandy beach, similar to Cairns Northern beaches. It is believed that the dredging of the Grafton Channel for shipping resulted in mud completely covering the sandy beach because the sediment gathered during the dredging process was dumped offshore and promptly swept back in to silt the inlet and cover the esplanade beach with mud.
This infusion of mud has been great for the mangrove ecosystem, but not great for tourists who would rather see a sandy beach than a muddy tidal swamp.
