The hunters'' ball takes place in the Viennese Hofburg (imperial palace). LEADIN
Paris Hilton's expected to be the toast of the Opera Ball in the Austrian capital, Vienna, tomorrow night (15 Feb 2007).
The Ball, which is broadcast live on national television, draws about 4,500 well-heeled Austrian and foreign celebrities, dignitaries and socialites.
Tickets often sell out months in advance, and entry does not come cheap.
It costs US $280 per person, although with extras such as gowns and tuxedos, flowers, limousines, high-end champagne and lavish pre- or post-ball dinners, the night typically runs to US$1,300 or more.
And if you book a box at the ball it'll cost nearly $21,000 US.
But there are balls for every taste and every pocket in the city.
Earlier in the season, the Viennese Coffee house ball celebrated its 50th anniversary.
STORYLINE
The international reputation of Viennese coffee houses dates from around 1900.
Venues, like the Landtmann, were meeting power houses where people closed business deals, met friends and discussed cultural and political matters.
The coffee houses became the preferred meeting place for journalists and literary men, politicians, professionals and the middle classes in general.
In intellectual circles, coffee-drinking was regarded as an aid for clearer thinking and better discussion.
Each coffee house catered for its subgroup of regular customers, and developed individual styles of coffee.
In Vienna, the ball season is now well and truly underway.
And this year marks the 50th anniversary of the coffee house ball.
The modern coffee house goer includes actors, musicians, doctors, academics and tourists.
For thousands of people the coffee house ball in Vienna was one of the most exiting events to take place during the season at the Hofburg Palace.

12. Mid of dancing couple, camera following to show garbage bins
STORYLINE:
One hundred Austrian couples on Saturday chose an unusual way to highlight the importance of waste separation - by waltzing in front of Vienna's Hofburg Palace, holding up items of trash.
Counting steps and twirling in the rain to waltz music, beautifully dressed couples danced their way to a row of garbage bins and tossed in bottles and cans into their respective containers.
Everybody can do their part because you can really help to save resources by separating your waste, said dance teacher Thomas Schaefer-Elmayer, one of those present at the flashmob.
With the ball season in Vienna just weeks away, the timing for a flashmob at the Heldenplatz square was certainly right.
The dancers said they enjoyed the event despite the rainy weather.
The term flashmob comes from the spontaneous Internet-organised gatherings.
During the events, hundreds of people suddenly appear at a predetermined location, perform a wacky stunt - then quickly disperse, leaving bystanders scratching their heads.

Flashmob Viennese style to support responsible attitude to waste disposal
(22 Jan 2012) WALTZMOB VIENNESE STYLE
One simply can't keep the Viennese from dancing.
Not at the opera ball and not even during heavy rainfall at the Heldenplatz square. One hundred couples danced The waltz with empty bottles and cans in hand only to toss them in trash cans afterwards.
The goal of this particularly Austrian flashmob: promote waste separation.
For organizer Thomas Schaefer-Elmayer it maybe was also a bit of promotion for his dancing school, one of Vienna's oldest and most prestigious. Or as Thomas Schaefer-Elmayer explains The whole purpose is to show people once again the importance of separating waste. And everybody can do his part because you can really save resources by separating waste.
With the ball-season in Vienna just weeks away, the timing was certainly right. The dancers enjoyed it anyway - despite the bad weather.
