The History of Swift Current: The 1920's
Presented by the Swift Current Centennial Committee as part of Swift Current's Centennial celebrations, The History of Swift Current takes us on a journey through the highs and the lows of the creation and growth of the Frontier City.
With Swift Current and the rest of Canada coming out of the First World War, the city was poised for growth. New churches, banks, businesses and municipal buildings went up, the Citizen's Rink brought hockey, and the Elmwood Golf Course brought both local and international golfers. It was during this post-war boom period that the Cenotaph in Memorial Park was built to commemorate those that fought in World War I, and eventually all foreign wars. The return of those young men to the young city helped jump-start the growth that would lead to the city it is today.
